Tomo 21,751
My theory about Torres is starting to be proved right, he plays well occasionally just not often enough, that is good enough and can be an asset for a squad rotation player (which he is now), but is be a serious hindrance as a regular starter (like he was last season). The last month was pretty much living proof of that, good against Schalke, very good against City and awful against Cardiff and Newcastle. Popular Post! remains of the day 564 Posted November 19, 2013 Popular Post! Share Posted November 19, 2013 The last month was pretty much living proof of that, good against Schalke, very good against City and awful against Cardiff and Newcastle. Not sure if it's that black and white. Probably important to keep in mind that against Cardiff and Newcastle he wasn't allowed as much space as he had against Schalke. I don't think Torres is at all effective in games where the opposition plays with a low block. Eto'o is more ideal for those kind of games. On another note, Torres and Schurrle should be played together more often, particularly in big games. They've combined to create some really good goals and also decent chances.http://i.minus.com/iq9Pn0RmlzdAS.gifhttp://i.minus.com/ibuvczXT2hSkJ7.gif Strike, kellzfresh, The Mak and 5 others
Sheva. 5,373
He didn't start against Cardiff, not a fair game to judge. 5 goals and 2 assists this season is decent, Eto'o has 4 goals and 2 assists in 7 minutes less, so at least we're getting some production from strikers for a change. The City game is an example. He didn't just stick himself between the 2 CBs and instead, was causing havoc by dropping deep and running at defenders, moving out wide where he gets more time and space and was doing the damage from there. But yet against Newcastle, we saw none of that and he was sticking himself against the 2 CBs making it all too easy for his threat (or non-existent threat) to be neutralized and made redundant. OneMoSalah 8,886
Wouldn't have been a good idea to rush him back into a game against a physical team like West Ham whose CBs would probably kick the shit out of him.. needs to get back to full fitness, with his injury past no point rushing him, thats ultimately why he ended up so fucked in the first place. Tomo 21,751
Imagine the diffrence if we bought Aguero instead of Torres back then...Which made it all the more funny when i kept seeing "PL proven" as a reason we should have signed Rooney ahead of Cavani if given the choice. Las7 951
I'd rather imagine we never signed Torres in the first place - a strike force of Kalou and Anelka would have been more productive over the last 3 years.
