im training to try and become a firefighter when i turn 18 in august 2014.

any tips???

I also wanted to become firefighter. As a kid. When I was 4 years old... but fair enough, it is a dangerous but honourable profession.

A distant relative of mine works for the firebrigade. He does a lot of strength&endurance training. Firefighters have to be really really fit for obvious reasons (strain because of the smoke, wearing of a 25kg fire armor)

I don't know whether you tend to gain weight easily or have a hard time doing so, but I'd recommend strength training 3 times a week with compound movements, medium range repititions and short pauses between the sets and high intensity cardio with sprinting intervalls on the other 4 days. this will be enough to give you the basics. The most important thing is you give it you all in the firebrigade's own training. There you also do a variety of specific exercises than prepare you for your missions. If u understand German this is quite good: http://www.feuerwehrtraining.net/fileadmin/pdf/downloads/FW1109-70-72.pdf

The radiator lifting and the stone throw is not that expensive.

But personal weight plates, different machinery will make a deep hole into your wallet! Imagine the cost for security for this place so none of the metal equipment will be carried away to local metalshops.

Alright, been quite a while since I dont post here, so here we go...

I think I just completed 6 weeks since I first joined the gym and it has been wonderful, I am finally close to having the same body I had when I did Tennis and Football in University. I first started with a bunch of 3 series of 12 repetitions and 45min of treadmill at 7km/h.

Now, after working out every single weekday and controlling my diet, I can proudly say I have lost 8-9kg! :woo:

Today, I finally got my new training. I am now doing a bunch of 2 series of 5 repetitions (meaning I can lift much more weight) and have a 30min of treadmill at 9km/h to do every single day (but the dude told me I can do 10km of bicycle in less than 20min if I get bored of running). I am currently with 71kg, so I still have to lose about 3-4kg to 100% go back to my athletic form (I am 174cm tall, btw)...

Wish me luck! :)

After you reach your target weight, make yourself a new avatar. Let's see the difference! :D

Hahahaha, I am exactly like my avatar now (this pic was taken in November/December)!

I got really fat during the summer (like 8-10kg above what I used to be throughout my life) and this bothered me to the bones, so I decided to enter the gym. I am really happy the results are coming sooner than I expected. If I continue to make that much progress, in a month or two I can solely concentrate in building a 4pack and decent arm muscles (my legs are strong enough) for the summer (October/November)...

You can make a comparison about these two photos, the tennis one is from a tournament in late October 2012 and the second link is with Dion in Lollapalooza:

that is a hefty amount of weight loss in 6 weeks. sounds like a good gym as well, i remember the discussion just as you joined, it was a decent looking gym.

keep it up!

Thanks mate!

Yeah, when I finished last year's semester I stopped doing any kind of sport and that came together with a stupid eating habbit. Add to it all the barbecues, beach parties and alcohol and you can imagine how bad it all got...

In March, I stumbled upon a scale at a drugstore and decided to weight myself. When I saw I had hit the 80.4kg or something like that, I fell into reality and kind of panicked (you can ask Sting or Dion about that). I almost got depressed by it because I was always the kind of people who disaproved others letting their bodies reach unsustainable levels and all of a sudden I was one of them, a fat 18yo (19 now) boy.

Since then, I decided to go full recovery mode. I dont drink nor go to bbq and I dont spend the night studying and eating junk food. I am solely eating healthy food in small amounts every 3-4hrs (which was what I read on the internet) and going to the gym every single weekday (plus the times I play football with friends). I am putting a lot of effort to it and getting the results faster than I expected.

I will keep it up and will never let that happen again! :D

Week 8: 65.8kg/145lbs (2 weeks ago 65.6kg/144.5lbs)

in a bit of a rut. at the moment im still doing the exercise, and im eating a lot less than i previously was (dont like the amount of fat ive put on) and i need to make a decision to either: lose the fat and start over. or to just keep the fat, keep building a couple more kg of muscle, then lose the fat. because at the moment im pretty much just maintaining. I havent increased my weight ive been lifting for the last two weeks, and ive been eating way less so havent really gained or lost anything.

the problem is, my whole daily routine is going to change soon. im about to finish my university course, and all my frineds come home from uni, so im going to be playing a lot more football, tennis and golf which may reduce my gym time, but its all exercise that is going to help me burn fat, so i dont really want to dedicate to something just yet which is why ive just been doing what i have for the last 2 weeks.

think im going to carry on doing what im doing and not worry about bulking up or losing fat and see what kind of routine ive got going in a couple of weeks before deciding what to do. with what im currently doing im not going to budge much in terms of weight, but i will hopefully be slowly losing some fat and slowly building some muscle.

Anyone here had any experiences in the past with lateral collateral ligament injuries? Seriously suffering, think the ligament may have been torn or ruptured.

Haven't had it myself but out of curiosity - how long have you had it and what have you treated it with?

Been going to the gym on and off for like 2 years now .. maintained OK body physicue but really want to take it a step further and really get that body that I always wanted.

I'm 17 years old, 6"2, 150lbs (68 kg) pretty skinny.

My main goal now would be to gain weight basicaly, have been struggling to do so before, hopefuly I'll be able to do it this time around.

Planning on starting after my math final, when I'll finally have enough free time to commit to it.

Only started in the last 24 hours, but some serious swelling and some pain as well. Very tender to the touch.

Have treated it with hold/cold compression, electrodes and have worn a knee brace at work today.

Go to the doctor, if it is torn or ruptured you need to know. Are you taking an pain medicine with an anti-inflammatory in it?

These kind of things get worse by the day initially, but after 3-4 days it will start to heal. If it is a bad stretch then it should totally subside in 2-4 weeks, just keep doing R.I.C.E - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Don't mean to be blunt, but if you can walk, then it hopefully isn't a torn ligament - if it is, then only real option is surgery.

Your BMI is a bit under 20 so it's in the normal range, but on a light side. I think you already know what to do - eat a lot more, go to the gym regularly without neglecting your cardiovascular health and do the RIGHT exercises. Dumbell curls and so on will make one feel more of a man, but they do nothing but add a bit of size and shape the muscle - it's an isolation exercise and you can't shape something that is not there yet. Concentrate on bench press, squat, deadlift etc - the compound movements that work different muscles groups at the same time.

Best of luck

Yep, I know that, thank you anyways!

The problem though is that I have a back illness that pretty much prevents me from doing all the back pressuring exercises. Which means things like Deadlift are pretty much off the limit. It is a pretty light situation of the illness bit still I wouldn't want to risk it.

Also eating a lot is a problem of mine.. its not that I CANT, it's just that there isn't always so much food available and I get lazy so I dont make any usually. And ofc there's school and everything in the way.. that's why I'm gonna start like a month from now, after my finals.

Thanks again!
