Quote

Football has become a game predicated on transfers. Whatever the problem, the solution is almost always to sign a player or two. Struggling managers always just need another window or two to turn things around. Buying and selling players, the eternal swirl of trade, is such a dominant mode of thought, has so coloured the discourse, that the notion that a manager might actually look to improve a player, something that used to be an absolute basic of the job, has come to seem strangely old-fashioned.

But every now and again a player pops up who has been largely forgotten about who, it turns out, is just the answer to a club’s problem. It happened the season before last when Arsene Wenger suddenly rediscovered Francis Coquelin and it’s happening this season with Victor Moses.

Very true. Especially like the mention of Coquelin, that came out of nowhere as well. I would love for Moses to be the real deal. The team just need to prove this system is to stay.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I think Moses is also an English citizen.

Not only he has English citizenship but he represented England 30 times as in the U16-21 teams.

Let's be honest. He's an utter shit winger and anyone pretending different clearly doesn't understand the game

This is not being honest, this is just a radical opinion.

I don't think he is a shit winger at all.. In his first season at Chelsea he spent most of the time sitting on the bench while Oscar, Mata and Hazard played. Still, he managed to score 10 goals and many times he seemed like our most dangerous man. When Mourinho arrived we sent him out on loan 3 times to 3 different teams, which is just cruel(see Chalobah).. At Stoke and at West Ham he had some outstanding performances, but Premier League teams just don't build on loan players.

Of course he is not a player like Hazard, but even if a winger, he'd be a useful squad member at any English team.

He is certainly very limited as a winger, would never want him to compete with Willian and Pedro for example. As a wing-back however I think he has enough tools at his disposal to be very good. He is strong, works very hard, knows when to play simple and when he is allowed more creativity. I think its way to early to tell how he will turn out in his new position (after all, opposition always adapt eventually, once they do and find ways to expose him it will be more interesting), but if he is performing at a similar level like 10 games from now, I am prepared to see him as an integral part of the first team.

I'd happily play him over Pedro/Willian.

But whoda thunk it thay he could defend so good and he had the engine hes got. To be able to run the line from corner to corner. Every oner of the lads are running their arses off,

Heres his vid for Saints

Off topic as hell but we should make a move for Adama Traore. Same exact profile as Moses except better in every aspect. I'd love to see those two compete for that position especially since Moses is injury prone.

No!!!

Why you want to fix something thats not broken?

Not every player in team needs to be flashy.

Hard work can replace talent, but talent can never replace hard work.

Competition and alternatives are needed sooner or later, with hopefully CL nights next term. With two games a week wingback area will need heavy rotation. There is a reason Antonio rested both Alonso and Moses vs West Ham.

Completely agree with rotation, but he was talking about replacing Moses, hinting he was not good enough. And with a player that gives Moses even more insult. Adama is nothing like Moses in defense.

But obviously, we will definately need at two players on both sides for wingbacks. But if Moses and Alonso do very well till end of season, we should look for their backups, not replacements.

One could be Kenedy, the other I have no idea.

If a player is signed who is better than Moses then all the better likewise Alonso, add to quality and competition. We should sign wingbacks who potentially could take their place keep them on their toes not just for back up.

Darmain at United could be an option, he's a average fullback but by all accounts a very good wingback, and Jose always been open to selling to rival. Perfect wingback would be Danny Rose but that aint happening.

Agree with the first part. That goes for every position.

But Darmian doesn't cut it for me. Not fast and quite light. You can't lack both physicality and pace as a wingback for me. Fabinho would be perfect. Sign him if possible and may the best man start. Him being able to play in centre midfield makes him even more perfect. But there other alternatives like Porto's Layun and Real's Danilo. Even Coleman would be a good option.

We're going to have issues with that come December-January.

If they stay inury free, IMO it wont be such problem this year since we play once a week (there comes fa cup but if we maintain on top till january, we should definately put league as priorit and play others in cup games).

Both Alonso and Moses have good stamina and both spent few years in PL, so they know the pace and rhytm of league.

But if we play two games a week, thats demanding for wingback and only a matter of time before they get too tired.
