Why people call him Legend. id never understand. The "Legend" word is being thrown around very casually.

But I agree with the rest of the post.

Legend is a commonly used word in England and does not always have the textbook meaning attached to it.and other words like Mad when people aren`t actually mentally ill, star when they aren`t one etc...

drunkards for example are often heard saying these words.

Legend could be used to describe Ferriera with fairness tho in the sense you are thinking of..when you consider all the medals he`s won. something like 6 League Titles,6 domestic cups. the European Cup twice and played in numerous international tournaments. it may be too strong a word for you but i can think of numerous people who have been called it with less to back it up.

i`m not someone who would use those words myself tho to describe him just yet but maybe in the future when i look back at this legendary era of CFC and the players who were here throughout it.they will be known as Legends.

Definitly an integral figure to the team. Otherwise I couldn´t explain why he is still here. He won everything in club football, played a lot of football, gets on with it professional carreer. I think he made himself irreplacable and I would be happy to keep it that way. We have strong connections with Portogual clubs and Brazilian players of the years, so I think someone like him is actually really handy for a club where there has been hardley any stability in management. Together with Peter, Frank, JT and Ash he´s been probably one of the key figures to keep the basic things going in the team when there wasn´t plain sailing at times.

I think that Paulo is a legend.

Not only is he a loyal servant to the club, and always given 110% for the cause, but he is extremely popular in the dressing room.

He is a smart man and is normally the one called upon to help the Portuguese speaking players settle into the team.

He never complains, however as his chances are limited, what do you think about giving him a coaching role?

Maybe at the end of this season, or even now. I dont think he wants to leave and I dont think Chelsea want him to leave.

Any thoughts?

Let me put things into perspective.

...

I am a decent footballer.

I get a chance to live in London, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, play in the best league in the world for one of the most ambitious clubs in the world that win a trophy almost every season and work with many of world's best coaches. I get a massive weekly wage, train at a world class facility with the world's biggest football stars like Drogba, Lampard, Shevchenko, Ballack, Torres, Cech, Essien, Hazard and others. People treat me well and I am not really an ambitions person since I realized that I will never be a football icon so I lost a bit of motivation. Hell why change my life when it's almost perfect? My trophy record is growing like crazy, I have my daily routine, I know the City well and I have lots of friends here. And let's not forget, I get to travel around the world like crazy and get the chance to see some amazing things all around.

...

So? Is he a legend? No and a big no.

Is he a true professional and a great guy? I can't name a bigger pro then him indeed, but hey, I am also a great guy and a big professional yet people don't go around calling me a legend (unless they are really drunk but then for them everyone is a legend anyway :D).

I am not trying to take away for what he has done because he really has been a loyal servant for the club, but you know it's not like he had to go through hell with tiny wages or trophyless seasons year after year sacrificing his career or something...

Hell, let me ask this. Has anyone of our players (pointed towards better ones with youngsters excluded) ever wanted to leave? I can only remember Robben because of his injuries and because he suddenly realized it's actually his dream to be playing for the world's best club that has the god given right to win everything (Real Madrid )?

As a matter of fact, we have a problem of getting rid of players we don't need. AVB kicked out Alex and Anelka, we waited for Kalou's and Bosingwa's contracts to run out and Malouda is still at the club.

I don't like to talk about whether someone is a legend if he is still playing for us, but for me only Drogba, Lampard, Terry and Cech are worth that title.

I remember there was a topic called "Fuck Paulo Ferreira" or something like that. What a disgrace that was.

Then there was the Fuck Frank Lampard thread..

Any thread that degrades a player in that manner, ANY player whether he be from Chelsea or not is a disgrace and embarressing.

"i never believed i`d ever play for a team like Chelsea" ~ Paulo Ferriera 2005.

It`s something probably said by alot of players over the years at various clubs but perhaps in one of those rare moments where he talks to the media,he revealed more than just an off the cuff generic comment.

he seems to be a family man maybe that has some to do with it too. London is a great place to live if you`ve got money. i don`t think his wages are keeping him here tho atall. if the club didn`t want him he would be gone by now as we wouldn`t have give him various contract extensions over the years. Roman don`t worry about getting money for when players leave. you could make quite a star studded team from the players we have let run out their contracts and walk away for free. even loaned them out so they can leave and play out the remainder of their CFC contract elsewhere and helped pay their wages.

He may have his own reasons to stay at the club. may be his family is settled, his kids goto school or whatever. But NO NO NO he aint a legend.

Neither is Essien, Robben, or Ballack.

There is Drogba, Zola, Di Matteo, Frank Lampard, John Terry, and then there is Ferreira.

Wouldn't call him a legend hasn't really performed to level like Didier or Lamps, but i agree maybe a player-coach role for the next season or so for him to be back-up with Hutch being another option for right-back next season. I think Lampard should get the same deal this summer as well, give him the chance to end his career here, like he said he wants to do, a chance to take the top goalscoring title (might not be the right word) and give him the first chance to get his feet into the coaching prospect of the sport in a atmopshere he is comfortable. And if he is given a player-youth coach role, maybe we will have midfeilders from the academy with the skills half that Lampard has.

Paulo could offer the same to players like Kane, who have such amazing potential and to aide them to develop while being in the lower ranks instead of sending them to loans, crossing our fingers hoping they will get any game time.

Does whats asked of him when he plays, doesn't gurn unlike a whole load of other players in our team when he doesn't play. Maybe we should offer him a coaching role, would be great as he gets on with the squad. He deserves a bit more respect than some people give him on here though.
