Spike 12,049
Chelsea hasn't been linked to Marchisio and given that he is a youth product of Juventus he won't be leaving them soon, but it doesn't hurt to discuss these things, right?I believe Italian midfielder Claudio Marchision would be a great fit for Chelsea. He is a classic box to box player that specialises in doing all the dirty work but he really shines when paired with a creative player like Pirlo. He does all the grit and tumble that Pirlo doesn't and allows Pirlo to be the Architect of Juventus' and Italy's attack. Of course he doesn't add to the creativity that Chelsea desperatly needs but if he was paried in a midfield with Mikel and a creative player like McEachran or Modric, it would simply be fantastic. Jase 43,479
Judging by your description there, why would we need another that is similar to Ramires or even Essien?!
Spike 12,049
Judging by your description there, why would we need another that is similar to Ramires or even Essien?!Because Ramires is far more attack minded and far too technically limited to play in the double pivot; if that is the double pivot is used next season. Essien looks sheepish and often looks afraid of challenges.
CHOULO19 24,332
Judging by your description there, why would we need another that is similar to Ramires or even Essien?!Completely off mate. Marchisio is absolutely nothing like either. If anything he is more like a Ballack. He does the defensive work very well (not necessarily the tackling, but he always covers and puts in the miles) and his contribution to the attack is often meaning full. He is simply a typical (and very good) box-to-box midfielder. His biggest asset, imo, is that his technical abilities are among the best in the world. His technique in passing, heading and especially shooting is the kind that coaches show youth players videos of to teach them how it should be done.I think he would make a very valuable asset to any team. Too bad he will never leave Juve.EDIT: Example of the technique I was talking about:

IF he was an out and out defensive midfielder, then fine but he isn't. So, why do we need him anyway?
Melanicus 5,208
He contributes to defence a lot, but his tackling is pretty poor.

He can do what Lamps did in the double pivot last season while contributing more to the attack since he is younger and can still make runs into the box. Is a creative player someone like Mata who assists a lot of goals? Or someone like Pirlo or Modric that pass the ball around and help other players get into better attacking positions? Or someone like Zlatan or Drogba where they hold up play?

Spike 12,049
Both, to an extent.I dislike the term as it is far too ambiguous. Because I think all positions offer different degrees of 'creativity'.

Because I think all positions offer different degrees of 'creativity'.My problem with term is that it seems some random journalist labels a player as creative and suddenly he is regarded as such by everyone. For example, and to get back on topic, why is Moutinho 'creative' while Marchisio isn't??Over the past three seasons, Marchisio has an average of 4 assists in 38 appearances per season while Moutinho averages 7 assists in 50 appearances per season. Not much difference if you ask me, especially if you consider that the defenses in the Italian league are fairly tighter than those in Portugal. manpe 10,861
Creativity, as I see it, is when you create things obviously, not destroy (what defenders and defensive mids are supposed to do). A creative player, for me, is someone who finds the right positions to receive and the right passes to give, let it be by creating a goal-scoring opportunity or changing flanks if it's the best option, doesn't matter, as long as it contributes to the team creating an attack.Having said that, I wouldn't mind Marchisio. He's someone Mourinho would have gladly taken back in the days.
OneMoSalah 8,917
Marchisio would be a good option but he wouldn't leave Juventus. Tbh I am disappointed we didn't try and sign Ricardo Montilivio when he was available on a free, he's basically what we need, a deep lying playmaker. Ollie 4,400
We may be Champions of Europe but we can only dream of this guy, he's absolutely fantastic. Not exactly had the greatest Euro campaign but still has a game to shine, he had a great season. I'd love him here but i reckon he'll stay at Juve forever.
