Salomon Kalou

Judging by the responses in this thread. Particular members here would be better off following Accrington Stanley, if they want to support mediocre players who 'try hard' and 'do their best'. Kalou became a multi-millionaire at Chelsea, and left with zero development as a footballer.

Its seems a waste, we could have got £10m for him. Oh well good luck Kalou.

If we had given him a new contract, there would have been no guarantees a club would sign him, especially with his wage demands.

So Term, Torres, Bogarde, Shevchenko, Kezman, Veron, Wright-Phillips etc. can earn millions, regress as footballers and still be held in higher regard than someone who some believe hasn't improved, at the worst?

He earned a fraction of what the flops earnt and has outstripped them all comfortably. He's been among our best signings spanning 2006 and 2010. Its not his fault that he only has competition for that title from Ballack, Malouda and Anelka, the fact remains that he has been infinitely better than most of the wank we have signed since summer 2006.

Sounds like Torres alright!

He's one of the very few footballers that should write a book on their careers. The fact that he managed to last 6 years at a top 5 / top 10 club is an incredible achievement and one of the wonders of modern football.

Kalou never held a permanent starting position in the team and while he is not everyone's favourite player he certainly put in his shift of goals, I liked him as a player, had a part to play with us in the FA Cup final and Champions League final and he can leave with happy memories, thanks for all Kalou.

We haven't got rid of the Kalou "curse" as some so nicely put it as we still have Torres who is an even more frustrating version of Saloman.

How dare you criticize our legendary n°9, you hater, you aren't a real Chelsea fan !!

To further that point that he is one of our better signings in the last 6 years:

Look at that 'significantly better than' list. So many players our fans have fallen head over heels with. He's been our equal 10th best signing out of 28.

Taking it even further:

It only looks better for "Conman Kalou, who conned our club so many times, no one else has ever conned us to that extent". There will come a time when people will come to regret this decision. Perhaps when he knocks us out of a tournament. Or when we need to defend like mad/are facing the best attacking fullback in the world and have no one there to do the job. Or when we need someone to come off the bench and grab a crucial goal. Perhaps a penalty shoot out.

Edit: I forgot to put Alex in, he was signed in 2004. Because he had work permit problems for 3 seasons and disappeared off the face off the planet for a few months every season he falls in the "Slightly better than" category..

Difference is Torres is a 'has-been'. Kalou is a 'never was'. All of you bagging Torres will be silenced when he starts scoring in the upcoming season. As we saw he has gone from Strength to Strength since the 2nd half of the season. As we again saw in the Euros with the Golden Boot. With creativity and passes in behind Torres (Hazard, Mata, Marin, Possibly Modric) he can be the Torres of old again.

A 28 year old finding the pace he lost at 25?

What next? A Balon D'or for Hilario?

He seemed to find it at the Euros :halo:

3 goals, not one of them having any impact on any results. 2 of them against Ire-lol. One after being 2-0 up in the 84th minute. It's like getting excited over a hat trick in a 7-0 win against some League One team.

Also about 6 other players had the same amount of goals as him. He just won it because Del Bosque hates playing with strikers.

Moot point, anyway. Kalou will always be the better transfer than Torres pound for pound, which is the only standard, measurable factor.

60 goals and 40 assists for 9 million; Torres will need to get 300 goals and 200 assists and even then he'll be 5 million pounds short.

Yes but the point is with creativity and passes in behind (just like at Livershit) he can be deadly. Also he won the Golden Boot and only played about 60-80 (?) Minutes. So he can be a big goalscorer this season.

Please, proceed to tell me how Kalou is the worst player of the lot. I'm sure I'll be very interested to listen to your 'rationale', which will probably be the party favourite, "He's just plain shit.", which is followed up 30 seconds later with a "FERNANDO I LOVE YOU YOU'LL SCORE 90 GOALS THIS SEASON LETS BUILD A TEAM AROUND HIM".

'No-goal' Pizarro was a much better signing, right lads? So was 'Crackhead' Mutu! And so was 'I play 20 games and then bugger off to Italy' Crespo. Of course, we can't leave out 'Permanently crocked' Zhirkov; or "3 games a season" Lukaku; or '6 million pounds per goal' Torres. You heard it here first
