Alan Davies and Hillsboro

I think he makes a good point. Liverpool always play on the anniversary of when the fans were murdered in Heysel, Yernited play on the Munich anniversary and so do Rangers on the anniversary of Ibrox disaster.

Dont get me wrong it was a terrible catastrophe -but there hardly seems to be a game now without some mawkish remembrance of someone or something

Indeed. I've been saying this for a while, United see playing on the anniversary of the Munich disaster as an honour because it's actually motivation. The fans use it as an opportunity to properly pay homage too.

Once again though Liverpool believe they are all high and mighty above everyone and it's them against the world blah blah. I'd say a Mersyside Derby would be appropriate on the Hilsboro anniversary, I know some Liverpool fans would as well. Abysmal theatrics from Scumpool.

On a similar note, some authorities and observers, appear to have lost sight of the distinction between football and society. In recent years they have overinflated the importance of football as a substitute to try to fill the gap where our society’s public and political life ought to be.

It seems there cant be a death nowadays without an out pouring of collective grief and sympathy, mountains of flowers, and tears from people who act as if they know the deceased from watching on TV. It started with the death of Lady Di, a collective hysteria that bears no resemblance to reality -and Liverpool in particular seem to have developed the minutes silence into an art form -though perhaps they should also consider the murdered at Heysel....

I could understand if it was 10 years or so but...

And Man U played Man City one year for Munich. It is a terrible tragedy and always will be but if other teams can do the same cant see why not...

Then again all really a mistake of the FA...must have thought there may be a possiablity two teams in the FA Cup may also be in the Semi's...they've fucked up first really with the date and the mental kick off time for money

The whole thing is a mess from the FA, to Alan Davies to Kenny Dalglish and LFC fans

Sunday could be mental -and I think there will be a sizeable minority of yid and Chels that wont keep schtum during the minutes silence

I think that this could come across the wrong way but I doubt that the minutes silence on Sunday will be anywhere near as well respected on Saturday when Liverpool are playing. This is because unlike for Liverpool it will not be seen as something as personal to the club and fans of Chelsea and Spurs. Whilst I appreciate that Hillsborough and its victims should always be remembered is it practical to have all clubs, most of whom do not have a strong connection with the incident to respect it in such a thorough way that Liverpool do?

'Every interview he’s given this season he looks like he wants to headbutt the interviewer. This tight-mouthed, furious, frowning, leaning forward, bitter Glaswegian ranting, "Liverpool FC do not play on April 15th".'

How noble of them (!)

This guy has it spot on. Davies has comitted a ''thought crime'' against Liverpool

http://blogs.telegra...al-correctness/

Scroll down for the podcast -he says Liverpool have made it hard for Chelsea by refusing to play

They cry over the Hillsboro incident and expect the world to cry with them for something their idiotic fans were responsible for. And yet, trampled their own fans at Athens before the UCL Finals.

Bunch of Assholes

Thats was so stupid! Then the blamed it on lack of tickets and it wasnt there fault it was down to UEFA...I'm sorry Milian managed just fine!

Some of them seem to think as well if they had a Champs League game ever on the 15th UEFA would change it for them..surley as well if the anniversary was a Saturday and they had a CL game on the Sunday..they'd have to played cause cant see UEFA bending backwards over it

Can understand reasons but at the same time..Rangers played on the anniversary of Irbox...this year in fact

And yeah Davis made a mistake in what he said but least tried to make amends and yet been turned down..

Great article, demonstrates exactly what you were saying. It's ridiculous, a good comment on that as well here:

Davies was right. If New Yorkers can go to work on September 11th, Liverpool can play football on April 15th.

Initially I feared for Sunday -ie that Sp*ds and Chelsea wont adhere to the minutes silence. Now I'm in two minds and I would fear I would break the silence along with undoubtably many more on Sunday.

I await the sanctimonious press condemnation on Monday.

Mind you, if it wasnt the minutes silence on Sunday it would be the minutes applause for a linesman that had left football in the 80s and had subsequently died of natural causes, so is the need to grieve in Britain now
