Our best back four

Not sure if you were referring to me there mate, but I never once said he was a liability. Just pointing out the fact that he's susceptible to mistakes just as much as Bosingwa is, yet most cant wait for Bos to leave, and say Luiz is one of our best defenders.

No no, it was in general.

Luiz is our best defender at the moment. Over the past six months, he has made less mistakes than Terry, Bosingwa, Cole or Ivanovic. People keep focus on the odd one or two mistake Luiz does in a game because those mistakes are what we can label as "silly". For instance, he loses the ball when trying to dribble. Hence I would say they are more "noticable" than what other defenders could make. While Cole, Terry and co, make what we can call "normal" mistakes, i.e. they are beaten easely by their opponent, and similar stuff. So it doesn't look silly, but somehow normal, and thus we don't mind them.

And yes Luiz is prone to make one spectacular mistake in almost every game. But what he brings to our side amply makes up for the mistake(s) he makes. And seriously, you can't lump Luiz and Bosingwa in the same group. While the first man makes one or two spectacular mistakes in a game which seldom (this is for you LDN :P ) cost us a goal, the last man makes countless mistakes which are often sanctionned by a goal. And as I said above, Luiz brings a lot to the squad, while Bosingwa brings us strictly nothing.

Could argue, however, that a defender shouldn't be making the mistakes that Luiz is prone to making (i.e impatience to win the ball too far away from the box). This is what is making them stand out from the other players' mistakes and is the reason he is drawing criticism.

There is a huge difference between Luiz and Bosingwa i can't believe there is a comparision.

Luiz makes mistakes at time so what? i could probally name atleast 6 mistakes Ivanovic and Alex have made in the last year or so are they bad?

Bosingwa is a different kettle of fish, i cba to go into detail but i will if i absolutely have too.

I didn't compare them as players, I compared their reputations on the forum as polar opposites despite the fact they both make mistakes.

If you actually read my point on the previous page, you can see I didn't put either of them in our strongest defensive unit. In the context of an actual game, I'd still want Luiz to play, simply for the drive forward he provides, something that our current midfield lacks. But defensively speaking, Luiz is too irrational for me, as is Bosingwa.

I don't think Luiz would make a good right-back. Maybe experiment it in the last 15minutes of a game, to see if it works, otherwise no. If he was a better right-back, he'd play there for Brazil & Benfica.

what do you know about using luiz as a rb ?

who could imagine Ivanovic would be a good right back ? Guus Hiddink. We need a manager with balls and a manager that can teach the players how to improve their games...we dont have one.

Didn't that Portuguese guy, who registered last Jan to cover this from their side, say he was awful there when he played for Benfica?

But true say on the Ivanovic call. Like I said, definitely should be experimented with.

If my memory serves my right, I did never play at RB, only at LB. And yes this Benfica fan told that.

He played at LB, against arguably the best forward in the league - Hulk.

Didn't Luiz play RB for the last few minutes vs. Fulham? (last season at Craven Cottage). That's the only time I recall him ever attacking from the right hand side.

He played as a RB in last minutes of Manchester United game last season.

I hate our back four, always have. All of our defenders are overrated, apart from Cole and Ivanovic. And apart from them two Carvalho and Alex were our only good and consistent defenders since the Roman era imo.

Haven't seen Cahill play much so I don't have an opinion on him but I seriously hope that he's better than Terry or Luiz.

What about Jt? Gallas was also a great defender for us in the Roman era! Weve had some great back fours under the Roman era (Hence why we still hold the record for least goals conceded ever in Prem)

He played LB to stop Hulk. Hulk ran riot and 3 goals were created from that side in the first half and Hulk scored another 2 in the second half. Talk about backfire LOL

Cole is the most overrated and should have been dropped months ago. Can't believe you don't mention Terry as a good, consistent defender unde the Roman era

We all know Luiz would best be suited in the DM role! That position is perfect for him! Your right though RB, no way!

Why oh why are we going on about Luiz changing position's? he is a fucking centre half. He played left back for Benfica twice and they lost 5-0 and 4-1, he nearly got released from Victoria in his younger years for poor performances in defensive midfield. If it was something to explore why the hell hasn't Carlo, AVB, Jorge Jesus, Dunga or Sanchez Flores tried it?

It amazing how much the media can infulence even the opinion of Chelsea fans when it comes to David Luiz, remember his first 2 games against Liverpool and Fulham when we could forge our own opinion of him before the media's intervention? We were inpressed we saw the potential he had to be one of the best defenders around, yet now we are infulunced by the media? wtf.

The only times we see Luiz be percieved to be a "liability" is when Bosingwa's playing right back, as Bosingwa's poor tacklking and marking virtually leaves Luiz against 2 players. The yellow he picked up for fouling Bendtner on Saturday came from Bosingwa (who was meant to be marking Bendtner) losing him completely which gave Luiz no choice but to make up his ground and foul him. Whenever ive seen Luiz play with Ivanovic aside him meaning he only has one player to worry about he is virtually unbeatable.

Lets stop going on about the occasional mistakes he makes, Vidic made more in his first season at United and Ivanovic and especially Alex (expierenced PL defenders) has made more mistakes this season.

As far as Luiz is concerned positives outweigh negatives, IE look at the Fulham match on his debut. The penalty he gave away was not even a pen (he never touched Dempsey) but lets just say for argument sakes it was we can hardly blame him because if it weren'tfor him that night Fulham would have won 3-0 and thats without adding the fact that he was single handedly trying to brake them down while the rest of our team could not be fucked aswell as single handedly keeping them at bay.

Remember the City match when he won us the game at both ends of the pitch?

If you want to know just how important David Luiz is to us as a CENTRE HALF look no further than the home match against Arsenal, has he even made half the amount of mistakes for Chelsea than our backline made in that one? If he played i would happily bet my life that Arsenal would have scored twice at best.

Is any mistake Luiz might have made worse than the one Alex made against West Brom or Ivanovic a week later against the Canaries?

The 3 big mistakes Luiz has made from what i can re-call (that has lead to a goal) is against Stoke at the Britt, United at Old Toilet and Villa a few weeks ago, two of those he was covering Bosingwa's ineptness and against United Essien and Terry were just as much at fault for the goal as him.

I dont usually get this irate but i hate it when players get underserved slack and the play him in full back or defensive mid is starting to do my nut in aswell he has already been tried there and it wasnt very succesfull, he is a centre half end off.

So lets ignore the media drunkards and bitter rival supporters, we have one hell off a player on our hands who is only going to get better.

rant over!!!!!!
