  1. One of my former students sent me a note today and it made me remember why I put up with the crap I do! Every teacher (okay maybe just the good ones) need to hear this every once in a while!!
  2. I really am afraid of our first snow storm in Shanghai!
  3. loved him while he was here but I don't want him back, I think it would be a disaster. Obviously he isn't happy anywhere very long why set ourselves up for turmoil in a year or two. I also don't want him in the EPL!
  4. LOL no I mixed up my right and my left! sorry one too many glasses of wine! In China if you are convicted of murder you are executed very quickly after the conviction. I'm not sure they would convict someone of piracy. In the US it would probably be backwards! I read an article today about the guy who killed and raped a family in Connecticut and they said although he was convicted and sentenced to death he case was "automatically" appealed... I find that offensive. Why do I live in China... because that is where my husband is.
  5. i hope it goes off with a win and without incident.
  6. No, it should not make a difference but unfortunately it does matter which country they each occurred in. In China for example the guy on the left would have been executed with in a month of his conviction. The guy on the right might not have been tried at all. In the US both would be appealing the convictions and that would take decades Neither system is "perfect" but they show the extremes of "justice" around the world.
  7. Jenny was our "pet" for three days in October. Just in time to celebrate MacKenzie's Birthday
  8. Did you know if there are enough firecrackers going off in the distance, it sounds like a heavy rain
  9. ah the smell of gun powder in the evening air
  10. Watching my children very patiently have their picture taken with a group of Chinese tourists when we went to an acrobatics show today. This is the trouble of going to Chinese tourist spots.
  11. Thanks Zoyales I'm glad you saw it! Let me know when you get those tickets!!
  12. welcome to the world of the overly polite and the "politically correct" phrased It makes the world safe for every one don't you know
  13. frustrated that mine didn't show up on the total
  14. how small are they?? My gripe of the day... fireworks should not be set off with in 3 meters of a building and not for 6 freaking hours straight!
  15. Try living in China... you want to worry about censorship ... I've got y'all beat On the other hand name a movie still in the theaters and I bet I can but the DVD!
  16. Year of the dragon will last one year, from now until next January or February. It is lunar so instead of changing on January 1 with the calendar year it changes on the first new moon of the new year. This year that was Jan. 23rd. (Last year it was Feb 3). There are 12 animals in the zodiac so it will be the year of the dragon again in 2024 It is said that if you are a dragon you will find good fortune in the year of the dragon but you have to reach out and grab it. (Typical Chinese to wrap it in a riddle!)
  17. Nice work! I wish I like Rose but I don't I think he is an idiot, granted one with talent! He let the University of Memphis take the blame when he cheated on his entrance exams. I think that it is horrible that he was never punished for it. Could be why I will never ever look at a sports "hero" as someone to look up too
  18. Yes, if we have one then we can get to those unapproved sites. I have one but downloading and streaming takes a long time. Sometimes it is just not worth the wait. I have Chelsea TV but to get the games or shows is awful because the connection is so slow.
  19. Chinese New Year is officially today but celebrations started Saturday night and will go for the next 10 days or so (some websites will tell you 15 days). Last night there were fireworks being set off from about 10 pm until 2 am continuously and sporadically for about 8 hours before and have been going on sporadically since 2 am. it is the biggest celebration of the year in China and families gather together to celebrate. We were cautioned not to attempt to travel with in China during the New Year Holiday. Yes it is the year of the dragon this year and will be until next Chinese new year. The chinese zodiac is a yearly zodiac instead of a lunar (monthly) zodiac and it is a 12 year cycle. So if you were born in 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, etc. then you are a dragon. With in each zodiac sign there are 4 different types (water, fire, wood, earth). http://www.chinahighlights.com/travelguide/chinese-zodiac/ http://www.chinesezodiac.com Hope this helps, Wilson
  20. thanks Shon3x, I have a feeling there will be no sleep with all the fireworks (Chinese love fireworks)
