No, the only reason he hasn't been sold is because of his wages. No club (on his level, that would want him) can afford to match his current wages.

Not really, Shaw is still the superior option, being PL proven, comfortable with the league and culture. Not to mention the fact we will be running extremely low on home-grown players.. The club (for marketing reasons) won't want Cahill to be the only englishman at Chelsea. Joe Hart is on constant rotation over here.. in the form of representing various companies via ad campaigns, hence why the Rooney chase wasn't just for football reasons. Kids growing up in this country and the future die-hard season ticket holders will have nobody to identify with; it's the reason Lampard-Terry are/were so marketable.

Ok, so we need 8 home-grown or 'under 21 players' to fill the 25 man squad. 1. Cahill 2. John Terry (33 years old!!!) 3. Lukaku (under 21) 4. Zouma (under 21) .... Fuck. Kalas would count.. but he really needs a loan for his development. Unless we keep hold of guys like Omeruo, Piazón & Ake 'JUST' to fill the quota.. for the sake of it and to give Mourinho 'non-options'. I.e - kill their careers, just so we can have our 29 year old foreign left back for 20 odd million.

I don't want us to be in a position where we have to fill our bench with home-grown youngsters just to fill the quota, it's a waste. Not only in terms of 'their' potential (lack of game time) but a waste of options for Mourinho to utilise. Splashing £20-25 on a 29 year old left back, when we have only one (Cahill) 'long term' englishman, and very few homegrown players who are good enough to make it here, doesn't exactly look great.

We really need to stop with the 'prospect/future' talk, Shaw was the best left back in PL last season. He's the 'present'.. it just so happens he also has a 12+ year lifespan, £40m would be a bargain. As stated though, it's the wages which may cause problems.

The same could be said for Luke Shaw.

It would make the transition easier, just like it does in the real world, school/work etc. Hence why the club houses the spanish & brazilians together (Luiz, Oscar etc all live in those apartments from their instagrams). Mata & Torres lived in the same complex before Torres bought his own place, it's the club that take care of that.

Youngsters won't get a chance anyway (Loftus Cheek etc), Benayoun was always favoured over Kakuta, and he was a 'Tiago level' player. Hence the danger.. Mourinho can only work with what he has and if the club can't offload Mikel, he becomes an easy option for when we need to tighten things up.

So a 34 year old Tiago will be partnering Matic next season..

He also told Demba Ba his situation would improve. If we added (at least) another high level youngster like MVG was, it would increase competition. Signing Tiago would CEMENT places in the squad, fucking freeze them.

Is he though?, there isn't really any strong links out there to suggest that, Mikel/Torres will both be here next season. Tiago is the same age as Ashley Cole, he isn't going to add anything to our title assault, he'd be a one-season bench warmer in a side that has enough cover. We need a first teamer (even if it means splashing out on someone like Pogba), so Ramires can be a utility player.

Hazard's chances increase by the year though tbh, with Ronaldo & Messi ageing. Bale is starting to make a name for himself, which goes to show how important it is to have a star moment in big games (2 finals in his case), Hazard can't just be part of a winning team, he needs a moment.
