I think Dutch football have come to terms that they are going to be selling clubs rather than being among the big hitters in european football. They have to make income that way rather than relying on income elsewhere.

I think Kalou has more impact coming on as a sub atm. He's still a bit off the finished article, but he's definately improving with each game.

Theres a Platini thread? It just seems that anything new that FIFA are coming out with directly affects EPL clubs more than any other.

I'd rather they went down the route of bringing them through the ranks instead of paying overboard prices for them. If we're to be anyway "self sufficient" then we have to do it that way. Current English players are over priced and you can pick up similar players for a fraction of the price abroad.

Is this UEFA "idea" more directed at English clubs? Platini has already shown his dislike for the English game and commented on it numerous times. It seems to me that this is just another opportunity to turn the screw. The EPL is turning (if not already has) into the most successful league in world football. English clubs are beginning to dominate their prize tournamnet, all the best players are beginning to take notice and want to try their luck.

Beating Liverpool in several weeks will hopefully knock them off course. Us against Liverpool have become bore fests. We basically cancelled each other out. I wonder how Rafa will approach playing us now that we're more forward thinking. Should be an interesting battle of tactics.

I sensed a slight dig at Jose in there. LFS has basically played the same team Jose left us with. With a few tweeks here and there we're playing some fantastic football. Something we knew the players were capable of yet we never saw it as often as we'd have liked under JM. His style was effective so you cant really argue with what he achieved. Just makes you wonder if he'd let the players off the leash.

I'm actually surprised Terry hasnt recieved some booing. There was a bit of a backlash when Capello named him as captain. Its early days yet I suppose. England fans never seem to be happy unless they're booing someone.

Setanta What a pile of shite. For me over the past 2 years Wayne Bridge has been just as good, if not better than Ashely Cole when he's been called upon. Only this season have I noticed Ashely Cole looking like the player he was at Arsenal. The tactics Cluj used on Wednesday didnt allow us to play our flowing game, and many other teams who have played that tactic showed us up to be slightly lacking in imagination. I dont blame Bridge for one second for a below par game. The whole team was way off the mark. So to single out Bridge as a player who's happy to go through the motions is laughable. He's showed he wants to fight for his place and is still getting into the England squads, so he must be doing something right.

Well some good news is that JT and Alex are fit and ready for the Villa game, the Drogba injury isnt as bad as first thought. No ligament damage, its just his knee that twisted and it'll keep him out for several weeks (4 tops). Ash should also be available.

Did we actually make their keeper work at all during the game? Apart from Kalous powder puff shot in the first half I dont remember a shot on target.
