Well it seems the bad luck continues, with Maloudas injury proving worse than initially diagnosed, and Shevchenko picking up an ankle injury last night.

From Ghana Daily; Chelsea striker Didier Drogba admits he has no idea when he will return after having knee surgery earlier this month. Drogba was expected back early in January, after an op on his left knee 11 days ago. But the Ivory Coast star is worried he may now miss the MTN Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana from January 20 to February 10. Chelsea had hoped Drogba would play at least one game before leaving for international duty on January 7. But his confession could now spark a club v country row, with the Blues unwilling to risk him if he is not fit. Drogba said: "No player would go under the knife at this crucial time if it was not serious. "I can't say really when I'll be back. "There's a possibility of missing the African Nations Cup." Ivory Coast boss Uli Stieleke insisted: "Our training camp starts on January 7 and Didier will be there."

You're quite right BB, it's a reactive step to non qualification. If we'd qualified , Barwick et al would be saying how they're vindicated in choosing McClaren.
-
Agreed. The psychological motivation was always there at half time, -as you say, it was apparent in the players attitude. Lacking against the Arse last Sunday by the looks.
-
Yeah, point taken, bit harsh on the disabled.

From the Special One to the Special Needs One.

Carvalho could be back -Ballack will prob play. StevieG has a tummy ache.

I cant spell though -3 'e's in succeeding ? I think you're right there, Abramovich thought , 'right, everythings in place, I can tell the egotistical Mourinho to piss off', and everything will continue. Just because Abramovich positioned himself round Yeltsin for the 'Everything Must Go' Sale, to make billions -doesn't make him intelligent. The string of bad injuries won't be remedied as easy with cuntchops in charge, and even though we've Clarke and Ten cates, they're hardly talismanic. (hows that for a made up word).

Bit of both - but the players /managers/club can afford the best lawyers. If you can pay for the law you can get decisions your way. There have been dozens of players, Ferguson as well, been done for speeding -and they all used the same lawyer who got them all off on 'technicalities'.

Man United defender Jonny Evans is being questioned about the rape. How many footballers have been accused of rape ? Dozens. How many convicted ? None.

Succeeding in sport is just like succeeeding in anything else - so the same skills apply - setting goals, using visualisations and affirmations, having a positive attitude, getting into flow, synergy, using your strengths etc ..Mourinho possessed the acute spatial sense of a chess grandmaster, he could adapt formations, tactics as games progressed and opponents changed. -along with a unique ability to creat an incredible sense of self belief in the players. This is the big oversight that Abramovich failed to recognise you cant get off the shelf from just appointing a fat bloke who ingratiates himself on the rich and powerful.

Quite a long read Brooking is right in respect Burton is as important an innovation as Capello, but what happened to the ''root and branch'' upheaval they promised after it became clear that they'd appointed the Cunt with the Brolly ? I thought -and it should- apply to FA staff. Carlos Alberto is also right when he states English players often lack a 'feel' for the game. Italian and Spanish teams often try to control the heart rate of the opponents through pace change , and are intuitive to opponents weaknesses. Interesting that the Futsal players in Spain are paid as much as the eleven a side blokes !

Definitely -they were a bit unlucky last night. Just an aside -isnt the game on Sunday 23rd not Friday 21st ? Isn't the kick off at 16:10 as well ?

Not sure, belt round his neck, hanging from the door. Not sure if he was having an exotic Barclays or depressed ?

As used by Tory MP Stephen Milligan. if I remember rightly. MP for Hampshire , found dead in 1994. Police found him wearing only stockings and suspenders, amyl nitrate orange in the gob, noose round his neck, and bin liner over the head. Lib Dems subsequently won the seat. Ere' Avram, give it a try.

Southampton Youth 3 Chelsea Youth 1

Saints have a history of producing good Youth players -which are then subsequently snapped up., and with England Youth players, 3 under 19s , all in all not a surprisng result. -
Definitely an experience for any Yoot, and motivation to 'make it'. Conversely, it gives our scouts a chance to sus any likely Yanks.

Doubtless primarily a marketing motive, now we're twinned with Disney. Disneys a good choice, in case any of the academy make it, they'll be used to Grant

From 'Who Ate All The Pies' Remember how excited Manchester United fans were when they heard the news they'd signed Ronaldo. Giddy MU enthusiasts litterally skipped and danced around their mock-tudor Essex homes, thinking they'd signed the buck toothed Brazilian legend. Luckily for them, it turned out to be the other, not so famous, Cristiano Ronaldo, which confused a few fat men in replica shirts for a couple of hours.Anyway the original aforementioned buck toothed wizard Ronaldo (star of France '98 and The Simpsons) has seen his career spiral out of control. He's now unwanted by AC Milan, who reportedly are looking to offload him for free, or swap him for some other over paid misfiring striker like Sheva. Cue Chelsea. Now, I'm not saying Ronaldo is the answer to Chelsea's strike problems, but in the short term, could he do a solid job in a blue shirt ? With Drogba out, Sheva and Kalou are getting out muscled by defenders. A big (free) bruiser, with the potential to be brilliant again, could be the answer. At least to get him through to the end of the African Cup of Nations when Drogba will return. Never mind could he ''do a solid job in a blue shirt'' question is could he fit in a blue shirt, and there are other options...

True but it makes you wonder if there were a couple of more than we'd be out of it completely, what with the ACN. Ferguson made a point a few years ago that one of his criteria for selection, is Premiership suitability. By that he meant 'brusiers' to a certain extent. Players like Tevez, Rooney etc ugly thickskinned fuckers. In hindsight Robben , for example, just couldn't cope with Premiership knocks. Theres no doubt about the bad luck, but also how along with media bias, Chelsea players have been targeted. Terrys on Sunday was premeditated. A purchase or two in teh January window now seems imperative.

Grants main motivation was the money -he doesnt give a rats arse about Chelsea , and will gladly accept the payoff. He wont be here for 4 years.
-
...or just fuck off back to Israel to put out cones..or top himself. Not bothered which.
-
With all the absentees, and Eboue crunching Terry off - Mourinhos h/t team talk would have meant the lads would have acquired at least a point. Theres no substitution for his tactical nous at the moment, least of all charlatan Grant.

Watford will go up, theres a chance they could take a point off us next season, send him back.
