Also there needs to be a chemistry between the back four and or at least the central two for the defence to work as a unit I understand, this was superb with Cudicini, Terry and Ricardo, and maybe this takes time to develop. He doesnt seem to have changed much, and I imagine Abramovich just thinks that changing managers will continue with the success of the last decade.
