Best striker in the world. I just don't understand how it can even be up for debate. I really do not.
He's not just the most complete striker, but I think he's the most complete player in the top 5 or 10 leagues currently.
He's got the engine of Ramires, hold-up play of Drogba, aerial ability of, well, Drogba again, finishing of...Drogba in his prime, the passing any striker is really expected to have (better than any of our current options), instinct of Falcao, pace which rivals any player not in the 'elite' speed class such as Walcott, Ronaldo, Lennon, Doumbia etc; the audacity to try shots we wouldn't even think of like Ibrahimovic or perhaps Cisse of last season; the strength of 3 tanks combined; a first-touch which could rival Mata's and most importantly to me personally you simply don't see him not give his all in any club game. (He seems sad when playing for his national team but still gives a lot.)
On top of all that, he's a beast whether defending or attacking set pieces. Our most important player from set pieces (defending) over the years was Drogba. He would simply win the ball back in the air or hassle opponents, hit the ball to Malouda, Mata or whoever's available, then try his hardest to counter-attack. This is exactly what Cavani does also - only Cavani has more stamina and pace.
I think he's got what cannot be calculated or presented with stats. Just a special aura which only special players have. These players so often end up at Chelsea. When I look at Cavani, I see everything which represents this club which is slowly being lost with the decline and loss of our core.
I think we need him.
Oh, and just keep in mind he's achieved all that and hasn't been managed by a single top class manager in his career while also playing with no more than 3 top players at once at club level (Hamsik, Lavezzi when he was there and, well, okay make that 2 players.) Just imagine what he could do here under Mourinho.
Edit: Other important traits:- He's a masterful penalty taker. He's as composed as they come. He's got above average dribbling for such a strong, physical striker. His ball control is something to be admired. He always gets the ball in place inch-perfect when he wants to round the keeper or fool a defender.
Also unlike so many players we get linked to, he always performs in the big games.

However if we put in a cheeky one for ibrahimovic id be over the moon. I know hes 32 but hes a freak of nature and can play another 2-3 years at top lvl; by the time hes finished lukaku will be ready.

I think players like Vidal, Bender, Martinez, Capoue are all ball winning midfielders. They run through whole match, cover all midfield, track and take ball from oppositio every game. Mikel is holding mid because he just sits deep and marks, but football nowdays is very fast and with few passes, everyone goes past Mikel. Because to stop fast passing game, you have to press on opponent (something like Vidal does) while Mikel just goes fuck all.
This team is realy weak in pressing and I think that is why Mikel wont have good time here under Mou. Both Khedira/Xabi can press, Essien was engine while Cambiasso was master tackler and nothing went past him during Mou's Inter. Mikel last year or under Ancelotti was great, but thing is that he has downgraded since. He isnt shit, but he wont fit our style of play nor our needs. He is great for counter system 4:3:3 where all three mids can press/defend (Lamps-Mikel-Ballack). In this team, he gets exposed and does nothing. Our team will have only one real destructor in 4:2:3:1 and Mikel is too poor to be one. He needs other players to help him, while Vidal or Bender are much better at doing things alone. Having pair of Vidal-Strootman, Bender-Fernandinho or DeRossi-Oscar would be fine, but before we buy anything I would give Mou time in pre season to try Romeu-Oscar and then decide. If Mikel will be shit, sell him and get someone like Diame as backup with Romeu first choice. And at Chelsea 4:3:3 system wont work because of Mata, while I hope Mou wont have any ideas of selling Mata because of that.

It's not the Belgians, it's everyone and nothing wrong with having passion. I love KDB, I am a huge fan and I would be devastated if we let him go but I really don't see the point in talking shit about the board and saying we are stupid for selling him when it hasn't even happened. And, I really don't see many rumours about him leaving. The most concrete rumours have been that Chelsea DONT want to sell him but wouldn't mind loaning him, yet everyone is acting like the most unreliable rumours of him leaving are gospel. Anyways, I don't want to derail the thread even further, I made my point.
I personally don't see us selling him, and the very little information that has surfaced solidify that even further. We might be ok with sending him on loan but I don't agree with that, he's good enough for us.
I think he should be backup for all 3 attacking midfield positions or play in a 3-man midfield if we switch to 4-3-3. I also don't think he should be played in the pivot, just cause he has good vision and long passes doesn't mean put him in the pivot. He has other talents as well which will go useless in the pivot. He is and should stay as an attacking midfielder.

What a feeling again, never a dull moment being a Chelsea supporter. Not particularly a good season but out of nowhere the team still manages to win a trophy and the season ends with a high. Happens most years, take note Arsenal.
There's no way Hazard was sober when the boys lifted the trophy, must have had a few drinks during the game.
