Just out of interest: With everyone rightly acknowledging that no emphasis should be but on those (glorified) preason friendlies as we have had a shorter preparation time than all other teams hence not being as sharp as them, why the heck didn't we simply start preseason a few days earlier? In 2 weeks we have to go to the etihad ffs.

We do need reinforcements. Most players just don't improve much. Not quite. It is not like he is completely useless. Yeah his setpieces were shite and his passing inaccurate but he created one moment of magic we should have scored from. His is like pirlo. invisible the whole match but picks his moments to set up scoring chances. But in a big match we also have to utilize him like pirlo which means we have to play 2 mids with who mask his defensive incompetence. Either that or leave him out completely in big games. Anyway we need a better midfielder.

we almost always lose the community shield and i fucking don't get why we can't get our shit together early on even if it is against a great rival. I fucking hate losing to arseanl and i hate even more that it was so clear from the very beginning we would lose this match and there was never anything we could do about this.

Not accurate. We lost the community shield in 2006/7 vs liverpool but won the two cups that season. Also we lost the community shield 2012/13 vs city and won the euro league

I think the only way for us to score is via a set piece due to our height advantage. Mertesacker is Arsenal's only outfield player above 6ft. We have like 6. This is probably why this is the first freekick Arsenal have caused in their own half.

I meant it like: If Mou trusts Mikel and Ramires to cover Fabregas and Matic, I think he could as well give youth players the chance to stand in for our defenders. IMO the gap in quality would be proportionate.

In a world were Mikel, RLC and Ramires are actually considered as options of a top team, not having enough numbers is never the problem. We probably need a backup for both, Fabregas and Matic. Even though I agree that we looked even more helpless without Fabregas. Matic probably is the only player who can offer the kind of protection Fabregas defensive incompetence requires. Additionally, Mou tends to sacrifice Oscar for Ramires in big games, so he acknowledges that we need more solidity and physical presence in midfield. What saddens me most is that he obviously still believes in Ramires to be that big game player which he has proven not to be any more. If Mourinho really believes Mikel, Ramires, RLC are good enough to come in and help us win the CL than we don't need any signings at all, then we could as well promote Jake Clarke Salter instead of signing Stones.
