  1. Barcelona's skipper Puyol wouldn't mind Mourinho as his new coach. Barcelona's captain Carles Puyol stated that he likes Mourinho and he would have nothing against his arrival in case of Frank Rijkaard's departure. "Mourinho? Why not? He is a great coach," said Puyol. "But with our current boss (Frank Rijkaard), we are doing well." The defender also revealed: "I would like retire at Barca. I have a contract until 2010 and I will do everything possible to stay with the club. "If I can't, then I could not play for another team in the Spanish Liga."

  7. Valencia striker David Villa has admitted he would be interested in a move to the Premier League. Chelsea and Tottenham have both been keeping tabs on the Spain international, according to the News of the World. The Stamford Bridge side could be in the market for a new striker if Didier Drogba moves on during the summer. And Spurs forward Dimitar Berbatov has been the subject of intense speculation over his future which may leave Juande Ramos needing to bolster his attack. Dream The highly-rated Villa, who could command a price tag of up to £25million, is keen to showcase his skills in England. Villa said: "I am happy at the interest within the Premier League and this is my dream if I leave Spain." Valencia sporting director Miquel Angel Ruiz added: "If we receive a formal offer, we'll study it."

  9. Chelsea manager Avram Grant fears the Blues' long unbeaten home record is starting to have a negative influence on his side. If Chelsea avoid defeat against Liverpool on Sunday they will make it 76 games unbeaten at home in the league during a period spanning four years. Their last defeat at home in the top flight came against Arsenal in February 2004, and while Grant is proud of the record, sometimes he feels it causes the team nervous moments. Grant said: "Any record is good. Most of the time it is very positive but sometimes it affects you because you are afraid to lose. Sometimes it is not so good .I think it is an unusual record, but it is good." Under predecessor Jose Mourinho there was plenty of ill feeling between the two clubs following Chelsea's two Champions League semi-final defeats at Anfield. But Grant is not interested in the past, although he does feel it will be difficult for Liverpool - 11 points behind third-place Chelsea - to claw their way back into the title race. Grant added: "Anything can happen in football but for now it will be much more difficult for them. "I think it will be a difficult game. When two clubs play against each other you always think about something from the past. "Of course I don't have a problem with Liverpool, my only concern is that Chelsea will succeed."
  10. Frank Lampard will return for Chelsea this afternoon in their vital Premier League showdown against Liverpool with his long-term future at Stamford Bridge in fresh doubt. Leading European clubs are considering exploiting a new FIFA ruling which means the England midfielder can quit Chelsea for just £5 million this summer. And Lampard would be willing to invoke it if his employers do not come up with Chelsea at the moment. Lampard has been given a huge boost by the recent ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which stipulated that players need to pay only the remainder of their contract if they wish to join another club. It means that Lampard can control his exit from Chelsea this summer even if the club do wish to sell him. Barcelona, the club Lampard would most like to join on account of his wife Elen coming from the city, are expected to renew their interest in the England midfielder this summer on the basis of the new ruling. They have previously ruled out making a move for him on the basis that the asking price of £20m was too expensive but would happily pay the reduced fee. Current coach Frank Rijkaard is expected to leave the club in the summer and there is a concerted campaign by some of the board at the club to bring in former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, whose first move would be to sign Lampard. Lampard has already turned down a contract offer from Chelsea and has just one year left on his deal at the end of the season. Kutner has previously insisted that Lampard would like to stay at Chelsea but clearly it will be dependent on the contract on offer. Now, as long as he serves notice by May 26, Lampard can leave the club by paying up the value of the year remaining on his contract. Lampard's best chance of a move to Barcelona would clearly be if Mourinho was appointed. His agent Jorge Mendes spent two days at the club this month, fuelling speculation that a deal would announced shortly.
  11. The Blues are reported to maka an offer on Croatian star Luka Modrić. Chelsea boss Avram Grant is said to be trying to lure young Modrić into signing for the Blues. Although their bid of £20m in January was rejected, Chelsea are hoping that Webster Ruling might aid them in landing the Croatian star in the summer. The ruling allows player udner the age of 28 to buy out their contract if they are at the club for 4 years. With Modrić's manager and also Dinamo Zagreb’s executive vice-president Zdravko Mamić wanting a large sum of money for Dinamo's top star, Chelsea could use the fact that Modric could buy out his remaining contract for £1.5 next January.
  12. Chelsea boss Avram Grant is not unduly perturbed as he gets ready to welcome back the key players from African Nations Cup duty, as he was when the likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Salomon Kalou and Mikel had left for the African continental tournament. The Blues have gone about their task with minimal fuss and have maintained their position as serious title contenders as they are just six points behind the leaders, Arsenal in the Premiership table. Grant’s side has been well served the strength in depth of the Blues as even with injuries keeping out John Terry and Frank Lampard, the west Londoners have coped admirably well. And they can only get better with players’ return and the Israeli has an enjoyable selection headache. "We have proved that we can do without them but we also proved we can do it with them also," said Grant. "Of course, when you have a bad situation you also have a positive situation. "But other players have shown themselves at an important time. Now there will be competition between them but it is also the time to say good words about the players who have done so well in their absence."
  13. Amauri will leave Palermo in the summer, according to the player's agent. Real Madrid, Milan, Chelsea and Juventus are all reportedly tracking the highly-rated Brazilian - who has hit eight Serie A goals so far this term. And Amauri's agent Mauro Grimaldi has claimed that 27-year-old is set to leave Stadio Renzo Barbera at the end of the season. "I can confirm Amauri will leave Palermo at the end of the season," Grimaldi said. "There will be big competition to sign him. Chelsea could ask for him, and I can confirm that Juve are following him." Meanwhile, reports suggest that Amauri is set to apply for Italian citizenship after constantly being overlooked by his native Brazil.
  14. Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard has ruled out the possibility of a swap deal for Chelsea forward Didier Drogba with Samuel Eto'o going the other way. However, the Dutch tactician is open to the thought of signing the Ivory Coast star. The Catalan giants already have a formidable attack studded with the likes of Eto’o, Thierry Henry, Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho. However, along with the Cameroon ace, Brazil star Ronaldinho is also linked with the Blues. "Eto'o is a player in our team and he performs very well for us," said Rijkaard, whose future at Camp Nou is also being speculated. "For that reason I don't see a swap deal. "If Barca have the possibility of signing a player like Drogba we would have to look at it, but we wouldn't do a swap."
  15. Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard (thigh) may return and centre-back Ricardo Carvalho is back after a ban. Andriy Shevchenko (back) and John Terry (foot) are again out, while Mikel John Obi should be available after Africa Cup of Nations duty. Liverpool will be without striker Fernando Torres (hamstring) along Andriy Voronin, Fabio Aurelio, Alvaro Arbeloa and Daniel Agger. Xabi Alonso is suspended and Ryan Babel is a doubt with an ankle injury. Chelsea (from): Cech, Cudicini, Hilario, Ferreira, Belletti, Carvalho, Ben-Haim, Alex, A Cole, Bridge, Ivanovic, Lampard, Makelele, Obi, J Cole, Wright-Phillips, Anelka, Pizarro, Malouda, Ballack, Sidwell. Liverpool (from): Reina, Finnan, Carragher, Hyypia, Skrtel, Riise, Pennant, Mascherano, Gerrard, Babel, Benayoun, Kewell, Lucas, Crouch, Kuyt, Itandje.
  16. Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido insists the club would only swap Daniel Alves for Lionel Messi if Barcelona paid an additional 30million euros. Alves was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea last season, while Real Madrid are also thought to be keen on the attacking full-back. A number of clubs are understood to be ready to test Sevilla's resolve again this summer and Barcelona have been rumoured to be favourites to land the Brazilian. However, Del Nido has labelled Alves the 'best player in Spain' and is adamant he would only agree to a hypothetical swap deal for Barcelona star Messi if the Catalan club paid an additional 30m euros (£22m). When asked if he would swap Alves, Del Nido told reporters: "For absolutely nobody. For Messi and for £30million euros. Alves is the best player in the league now. "We have to be careful and be open. But I guarantee you that if Sevilla do not want to sell, then we will not sell."
