  3. In-demand striker Mario Gomez has hinted he may leave Stuttgart in the not too distant future and move to a bigger club. The 22-year-old, who is the 2007 German Footballer of the Year, is one of the hottest properties in Europe after a hatful of goals in the Bundesliga. While the likes of Milan, Fiorentina and Juventus and Real Madrid have been linked with his services, Premier League giants Chelsea are also in the hunt. Gomez is being tipped to replace Didier Drogba should he depart Stamford Bridge this summer and he believes he has what it takes to play for a European giant. "I am happy in Stuttgart but I desire to progress in football," he told the Mail on Sunday. "If a major offer comes in, I have agreed with my club that I can have talks. I consider myself capable of playing in the big European leagues. "I watch the Premier League and it is one of the best in the world. I know Chelsea scouts have watched matches." Stuttgart recently conceded Gomez is unlikely to see out the remainder of his contract with the club, with his existing deal due to expire in the summer of 2012. skysport.com

  14. Chelsea are launching a raid for Inter Milan sensation Mario Balotelli. Tuttosport says Chelsea chiefs are posting scouts to watch the 17 year-old in Primavera action leading up to the summer market. Balotelli has been dubbed Italy's answer to AC Milan's teenage star Alexandre Pato. Chelsea have already been active in the Italian youth market, having swooped for Reggina's 16 year-old defender Ivan Camilleri last month. tribalfootball.com
  15. Sevilla fullback Daniel Alves has declared he's ready to leave in the summer. Chelsea and Tottenham have been linked with the Brazil international, who was also watched by Manchester United chief scout Martin Ferguson last month. Alves remains upset at missing out on a move to Chelsea last August and said: "I think it will be difficult for that train last year to come round again. But I'm sure there'll be other trains passing that will be good for me. "The president has his opinion and I have mine. I believe the price he demanded was too much for a wing-back. The president has always said no player is essential." tribalfootball.com

  17. AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi insists a move for Ronaldinho is not on the club's agenda but admitted he still admires Andriy Shevchenko. Milan are expected to rebuild an ageing team following a disappointing season in Serie A and a last 16 elimination at the hands of Arsenal in the Champions League. And with Brazil striker Ronaldo out of action for several months with a knee injury, recruiting a forward is a priority for Milan. Berlusconi is adamant, however, Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho is not on their wish list. "Ronaldinho has never been an aim of ours because we have always felt that he would not have been the ideal partner of players like Alexandre Pato and Kaka," he said. However, Berlusconi refused to rule out a move for Chelsea striker Shevchenko. Former Rossoneri favourite Shevchenko has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and Berlusconi, who is godfather to Shevchenko's eldest son Jordan, is thought to be keen on taking him back to the San Siro. "I believe Milan must make a point of reinforcing its defensive line and also find a great forward, who is physically strong," said Berlusconi. "Shevchenko is a player that is physically fit and who is still in our hearts and in those of the Rossoneri fans." The Ukraine international became Milan's second all-time leading goalscorer in a glorious seven-year spell which ended in the summer of 2006 when he joined Chelsea for £30million.
  18. Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech insists the entire squad still has a strong relationship with under-fire manager Avram Grant. Grant will be back in the limelight on Wednesday when attention switches from Chelsea's FA Cup exit back to the club's Premier League title challenge. Three days after the shock defeat at Barnsley, Grant is scheduled for a media briefing ahead of the league clash against Derby on Wednesday, giving an impression of business as usual at the club. Losing to the top flight's bottom club would be another huge upset as Chelsea protect a two-year unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge, while Derby's only taste of victory away this season was after a penalty shoot-out at Sheffield Wednesday. Avoiding a slip-up by securing maximum points would also put Chelsea five points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand. Grant was without Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard at the weekend with slight knocks, while goalkeeper Cech is expected to miss the Derby clash as he nurses an ankle injury. Cech has told the London Evening Standard that the relationship between boss Grant and his players remains strong. "I think the relationships here are like in every club in the world in terms of the coach and the players," he said. "We're a big club and have a coach who was unknown in England in the past and that is why everyone tries to find new things. If the relationship was not working, we would not be winning. This is clear evidence of that being just speculation." Grant insisted last week that Andriy Shevchenko has a future at Chelsea, although Paolo Maldini is the latest person from AC Milan to suggest the striker would be welcomed back at his former club. "At Milan there is always room for those who have done a lot," Maldini told Sky Sports. "There is always space for those who have left a mark on the history of the club. ITV.com
