Chelsea are launching a raid for Inter Milan sensation Mario Balotelli. Tuttosport says Chelsea chiefs are posting scouts to watch the 17 year-old in Primavera action leading up to the summer market. Balotelli has been dubbed Italy's answer to AC Milan's teenage star Alexandre Pato. Chelsea have already been active in the Italian youth market, having swooped for Reggina's 16 year-old defender Ivan Camilleri last month. tribalfootball.com

Sevilla fullback Daniel Alves has declared he's ready to leave in the summer. Chelsea and Tottenham have been linked with the Brazil international, who was also watched by Manchester United chief scout Martin Ferguson last month. Alves remains upset at missing out on a move to Chelsea last August and said: "I think it will be difficult for that train last year to come round again. But I'm sure there'll be other trains passing that will be good for me. "The president has his opinion and I have mine. I believe the price he demanded was too much for a wing-back. The president has always said no player is essential." tribalfootball.com

AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi insists a move for Ronaldinho is not on the club's agenda but admitted he still admires Andriy Shevchenko. Milan are expected to rebuild an ageing team following a disappointing season in Serie A and a last 16 elimination at the hands of Arsenal in the Champions League. And with Brazil striker Ronaldo out of action for several months with a knee injury, recruiting a forward is a priority for Milan. Berlusconi is adamant, however, Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho is not on their wish list. "Ronaldinho has never been an aim of ours because we have always felt that he would not have been the ideal partner of players like Alexandre Pato and Kaka," he said. However, Berlusconi refused to rule out a move for Chelsea striker Shevchenko. Former Rossoneri favourite Shevchenko has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge and Berlusconi, who is godfather to Shevchenko's eldest son Jordan, is thought to be keen on taking him back to the San Siro. "I believe Milan must make a point of reinforcing its defensive line and also find a great forward, who is physically strong," said Berlusconi. "Shevchenko is a player that is physically fit and who is still in our hearts and in those of the Rossoneri fans." The Ukraine international became Milan's second all-time leading goalscorer in a glorious seven-year spell which ended in the summer of 2006 when he joined Chelsea for £30million.

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech insists the entire squad still has a strong relationship with under-fire manager Avram Grant. Grant will be back in the limelight on Wednesday when attention switches from Chelsea's FA Cup exit back to the club's Premier League title challenge. Three days after the shock defeat at Barnsley, Grant is scheduled for a media briefing ahead of the league clash against Derby on Wednesday, giving an impression of business as usual at the club. Losing to the top flight's bottom club would be another huge upset as Chelsea protect a two-year unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge, while Derby's only taste of victory away this season was after a penalty shoot-out at Sheffield Wednesday. Avoiding a slip-up by securing maximum points would also put Chelsea five points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand. Grant was without Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard at the weekend with slight knocks, while goalkeeper Cech is expected to miss the Derby clash as he nurses an ankle injury. Cech has told the London Evening Standard that the relationship between boss Grant and his players remains strong. "I think the relationships here are like in every club in the world in terms of the coach and the players," he said. "We're a big club and have a coach who was unknown in England in the past and that is why everyone tries to find new things. If the relationship was not working, we would not be winning. This is clear evidence of that being just speculation." Grant insisted last week that Andriy Shevchenko has a future at Chelsea, although Paolo Maldini is the latest person from AC Milan to suggest the striker would be welcomed back at his former club. "At Milan there is always room for those who have done a lot," Maldini told Sky Sports. "There is always space for those who have left a mark on the history of the club. ITV.com

Milan captain Paolo Maldini has welcomed suggestions that Andriy Shevchenko could be on his way back to the Rossoneri. The Ukraine star has failed to impress at Stamford Bridge following his £30 million transfer in the summer of 2006 and has scored only eight goals in 41 Premier League appearances. After being relegated to the club’s reserves recently, there have been suggestions that a return to Milan could be on the cards for a player who scored a much more impressive 127 goals in 208 Serie A games. And Maldini, who could well postpone his retirement and play another season at San Siro, would certainly welcome his former colleague back with open arms. “At Milan there is always space for those who have done a lot,” explained Maldini. “There is always room for those who have left a mark on the club’s history.” Midfielder Massimo Ambrosini also feels that Shevchenko would be a useful addition to a team that has lost Ronaldo to a long-term knee injury. “We cannot decide these things,” said Ambrosini. “I can only say that Sheva is a friend and that we will welcome him with enthusiasm if he were to leave London.”

Chelsea are considering a sensational offer to former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Michael Laudrup to become their first team coach next season if Avram Grant is elevated to a more senior administrative role. Tentative unofficial inquiries have already been made about whether the 43-year-old former Danish international would be available and interested in moving to Stamford Bridge. Laudrup is currently coaching Getafe in Madrid, who scored a spectacular UEFA Cup victory over Benfica in Lisbon on Thursday night and beat Tottenham 2-1 at White Hart Lane earlier in the tournament. He took over the club from current Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster and has guided them to the semi-final of the Copa del Rey, where they hold a two-goal advantage over Real Santander going into the second leg. After a distinguished playing career with Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid and being voted Denmark's bestever player, Laudrup had a spell as assistant coach with the national team before spending four years coaching Brondby, taking the Danish side to a cupleague double in 2005. After a fall-out with Brondby over his contract renewal, he was linked with a number of clubs including Real Madrid before he moved to Getafe last July where he has attracted the interest of several top European clubs, including Chelsea. He would have a powerful ally at Chelsea in chief talent scout Frank Arnesen — a fellow Dane who, like Laudrup, was born in Copenhagen. Laudrup's name has become associated with Chelsea after manager Grant's defeat in the Carling Cup Final against Tottenham, which is expected to see another shake-up of the coaching staff this summer. Grant and his assistant Henk ten Cate were appointed following the departure of Jose Mourinho earlier in the season, but the Dutch coach is already under scrutiny after his heated argument with captain John Terry the day before the final. Ten Cate appears to be succumbing to the pressure after bizarrely blaming the British media for his problems. He said: "The British decided not to publish the story about me and John Terry the next day. But we lost the Carling Cup Final against Tottenham Hotspur and that was what they were waiting for. It was so childish of them and it was not the first incident. When I first arrived here, it was suggested that I was forbidding the players to laugh. I did say something about that to the whole squad. "I said to the players, there is a time when you can laugh and there is a time when you have to work hard. Those words to the squad were taken out of proportion. 'What does irritate me is when players from a squad deliberately leak stuff from within the changing room." Speaking to De Telegraaf newspaper in Holland, Ten Cate added: "We are doing well yet the pressure here is enormous. As a manager you can't look ahead. You can't afford to lose a game."
