  1. Chelsea may seek to block any move away sought by Didier Drogba. Although Chelsea had initially agreed to his request to leave, they are now wavering. With a shortage of adequate replacement strikers, Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon may yet put his foot down. Grant said: "Didier has not said to me that he wants to leave. Sometimes Didier has bad days and sometimes good days, but he gives everything for the team. We have 27 players in the squad and they don't all tell me they are staying." http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=92082

  4. Frank Rijkaard will step down as coach of the Catalan giants at the end of the season The move, which comes after Barcelona failed to regain their Spanish title, will revive talk of a switch to Stamford Bridge for the Dutchman.
  5. Rio Ferdinand has apologised to a Chelsea steward after accidentally kicking her at the end of today's match. The Manchester United defender, tipped to be the next permanent England captain, was angry following the 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge. He intended to take his frustrations out on a wall but instead kicked the steward. Ferdinand went back to say sorry and she said "she totally understood" as she was unhurt, said United. A club spokesman said: "Rio would like to apologise to the lady". scumbag http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...amp;ito=newsnow
  6. Tottenham Hotspur this morning agreed a deal to sign Luka Modric believed to be for a minimum of €20m (about £15.5m), breaking their transfer record. topic closed now
  7. Chelsea will make a third attempt to sign Steven Gerrard from Liverpool if, as expected, Frank Lampard leaves at the end of the season. Jose Mourinho, Chelsea's former manager, was twice out of luck when he tried to buy the Liverpool captain. However, fortune may well smile on his successor, Avram Grant, whose title hopes were raised yesterday when leaders Manchester United could only draw 1-1 at Blackburn thanks to a late goal from Carlos Tevez. Chelsea are three points behind United, who visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Gerrard almost joined Chelsea in June 2004 for £20m, and again 12 months later, for £32m, after the Anfield captain reacted to the interest by submitting a transfer request. He changed his mind only after his family received death threats and a fan burned his replica shirt live on Sky TV. Now Grant will try to make it third time lucky, if he survives in the job beyond the end of the season and, as seems likely, Lampard leaves to take on a fresh challenge. Grant, whose Chelsea side meet Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday, said: "Gerrard is a great player and a great person. For me, he is the player of the year in England, and maybe in Europe, because of the influence he has on the team. I like him very much as a player and I know him. He is a nice guy and an example to others. He plays against me, but he's still my favourite player." Grant added that he greatly admired the England midfielder's versatility, pointing to his success in a new role, playing off Fernando Torres, Liverpool's main striker. He said: "I'm not surprised; he has the quality to play in any position. In the one he is in now he probably feels more free." Reminded that Mourinho had tried to sign him twice, Grant said: "If you can bring him to me, I will be happy." Gerrard and Lampard are widely considered too similar to play in the same England midfield, and Liverpool's dynamic leader would be a like-for-like replacement for Lampard, who is known to hanker after a move to Spain, and will probably end up wherever Mourinho resumes his managerial career. Like their playing styles, their records are much the same. Gerrard has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, Lampard is Chelsea's leading scorer with 18, albeit in fewer games. For England, Gerrard has netted 12 times in 64 appearances, Lampard 14 in 60. In terms of market value, Gerrard has the edge, if only because he is still only 27. Lampard will turn 30 in June. Rebuffed twice, Chelsea believe they could get their man this time because Gerrard is known to be unhappy about Liverpool's continued failure in the Premier League, and is appalled by the boardroom feud at Anfield and what the chief executive, Rick Parry, has called the washing of dirty linen in public. It has also been noted at Stamford Bridge that in his autobiography, Gerrard admits to "looking long, and jealously, at Chelsea". Grant's comments are sure to add extra spice to Tuesday's clash at Anfield.

  11. AVRAM GRANT will hit Tal Ben Haim with an £80,000 fine for his amazing outburst in SunSport. As open warfare broke out at Chelsea yesterday, furious Blues chief Grant also accused his fellow Israeli of lying over claims ex-boss Jose Mourinho promised the defender a regular first-team role at Stamford Bridge. Grant said: “It is internal business but, in my opinion, if a player was wrong we need to deal with it — in our way, my way.” Centre-back Ben Haim, 26, took aim at Grant after the 1-1 home draw with Wigan on Monday night virtually ended Chelsea’s hopes of lifting the Premier League title. He insisted he would never have moved from Bolton last summer if he had known Grant would replace the ‘Special One’ Mourinho. Ben Haim was fined two weeks’ wages for his outburst. As for his claim he would have been a first pick under Mourinho, Grant said: “I don’t think Jose promised Ben Haim he will play before John Terry, Carvalho and Alex.” The explosive row is the last thing Grant needs ahead of the club’s must-win match at Everton tonight. Midfield star Frank Lampard is likely to be missing again due to his mum Pat’s illness. Grant said: “Football is very important but sometimes other things are more important. I understand it.” http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article1051315.ece

  13. Chelsea could lose up to 12 players this summer as Avram Grant begins planning for the future. Grant is understood to be confident of keeping his job, despite criticism from fans and from within his own squad, and has reportedly been offered substantial funds by club owner Roman Abramovich to buy world-class players during the off-season. The Israeli coach inherited the current Chelsea squad from Jose Mourinho, and does not feel it meets his requirements. Fringe players such as Andriy Shevchenko, Claudio Pizarro, Steve Sidwell and Tal Ben Haim will almost certainly be shown the door, while even the futures of more established squad members such as Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Florent Malouda, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Carlo Cudicini and Juliano Belletti are clouded in uncertainty. Ben Haim is certain to leave following his latest outburst. The Israel international, signed by Mourinho last summer yet a peripheral figure since his compatriot took over, has claimed he wouldn't have even joined Chelsea had he known about the change in management. "Jose Mourinho is the reason I came to Chelsea," said Ben Haim. "And if I knew Avram Grant was going to be the coach I would have signed for another club. "It was Jose who brought me here and no one except he and I know the conversation we had when he tried to sign me the first time a year ago last January. "The fact is while Jose was the coach I played most of the games and people who know me know that I would not have come here to be a reserve. "I knew nothing good would come for me with Grant as Chelsea coach." Real Madrid, meanwhile, have stepped up their interest in Drogba. The striker has long suggested he sees his future away from Samford Bridge and Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic was in London last week to hold preliminary talks with the Ivorian's agents. Mijatovic has personally watched Drogba this season a number of times and a bid of around £20 million is expected for the 30-year-old. Lampard, too, is set to leave the club should Mourinho, as expected, take over at one of the big continental clubs, with Inter Milan or Barcelona the most likely destinations. Should Abramovich eventually bow to pressure from players and fans to replace Grant, current Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard remains the favourite. However, members of the Chelsea hierarchy have expressed an interest Michael Laudrup. Sporting director Frank Arnesen is believed to be hugely impressed with what fellow Dane Laudrup has achieved with Getafe, taking them to the upper reaches of the Spanish top flight, the domestic cup final and almost beating Bayern Munich to a place in the Uefa Cup semi-finals. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/04/16/ufndrogba216.xml

  16. Milan today confirmed that they have agreed initial terms with Ronaldinho regarding a summer transfer from Barcelona to the San Siro. The Brazilian, who has also been linked with switches to Chelsea and Manchester City, is thought to have been offered a four-year deal worth in the region of £6.3m per year."There is a general agreement with the player," said Milan's chief executive Adriano Galliani, who will now open talks with his Spanish counterparts. "Now a deal has to be reached with Barcelona. Give us time." www.guardian.co.uk
