  3. On March 22 we published a story which we claimed to be an exclusive both in the newspaper and on our website stating that Roman Abramovich was drawing up a secret hit list of potential managers and had authorised the sounding out of Turkey boss Fatih Terim. We now accept that Mr Abramovich had authorised no such approach and nor had he drawn up any secret hit list.We apologise to Mr Abramovich for the upset and distress caused by the publication of this article. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-20679457/

  8. Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have taken another veiled swipe at title rivals Chelsea, as he states Manchester United would have developed John Mikel Obi ‘in the right way’. Mikel famously signed a contract with United in 2005, but then challenged this to successfully move to Premier League foes Chelsea. At Stamford Bridge, he developed into a holding midfield player having started out life as a creative talent across the middle of the park. This transformation has not gone down too well in his native Nigeria where he was tipped to replace Jay Jay Okocha as the playmaker. “Because of his talent and his young age we thought we could have developed him [Mikel] the right way,” Ferguson is quoted as saying on kickoffnigeria.com. “At the time we were disappointed because we thought that Mikel would be a Manchester United player. “But he chose Chelsea in the real sense of the matter and there was nothing we could do about that. “In the past we have witnessed circumstances like this but you have to forget everything and move on.”

  10. John Obi Mikel is confident that he can step into the boots of Claude Makelele at Chelsea. The Blues parted company with the veteran holding midfielder last week, allowing the Frenchman to join Paris Saint Germain. "I played that role sometimes last season and hopefully I'll have a long run in the team now," said Mikel. "It's something I've wanted - a run in the team - and I suppose Claude's departure has opened up that door for me, but I was playing in that role when I was in the team last season too. "I was in and out of the team last season, but when I was given a chance under (former manager Jose) Mourinho before, I actually did okay in that holding role. I think I did very well under Mourinho and was playing regularly. "Of course, when a new manager comes in everyone has to start afresh and roll up their sleeves. In Avram Grant's time I was in and out of the side, and that was a bit frustrating, but it's what happens in football. "This time, under the new boss, I will try to make it my position in the team each week." http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=103989
  11. brilliant news hope lampard next to sign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Chelsea star Claude Makelele is still being linked to Paris Saint Germain but chairman Charles Villeneuve has refused to confirm that negotiations are taking place. The capital club, who have appointed a former TV presenter as their new supremo, are looking to restore past glories and their recruitment policy is based on former France internationals. Lilian Thuram’s move as a free agent collapsed for medical reasons, and the capital club’s next targets are believed to be Chelsea’s Makelele and Roma’s Ludovic Giuly. Head coach Paul Le Guen declared in June that the Blues midfielder was in contact with the club, but Villeneuve has refused to confirm the news. “I read many things about this, and most of them are far away from the reality,” he said during a press conference at Parc des Princes. “We continue to negotiate, but I didn’t tell you I was negotiating with Makelele and Giuly.” setanta

  16. RIO FERDINAND’S moment of madness at Stamford Bridge last season could cost him the England captaincy. Ferdinand, 30, faces a possible four-game ban and £200,000 fine for kicking a female Chelsea steward after the Battle of the Bridge in April. SunSport can reveal FA chiefs have requested photos and witness statements from Blues staff about the incident, when the Manchester United defender kicked tunnel steward Tracy Wray. She needed hospital treatment for severe bruising to her left thigh and belatedly received some flowers from him by way of an apology. Disciplinary chiefs are due to examine the evidence and the United star could miss the start of the season with a ban. He faces being charged with gross misconduct and bringing the game into disrepute, while United could also face charges of failing to control their players. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...icle1417736.ece
