"One of those days"........

That's the tricky thing here, no? Did Abraham perform well earlier this season because he is good and he is just having a dip in form? OR did he perform well earlier simply because he had one of those purple patches that every player has and his current performances are a reflection of his actual abilities as a player? The drop has been so stark that he can't even do the basics right. If you're struggling, you should always get back to basics. Do the simple things well and the rest will follow but he is not doing that and he is not helping himself or anyone with his bad body language. I have not mentioned anything about selling or loaning Abraham like others have but personally, I am yet to be convinced. Abraham simply needs to prove that he can play at the highest level. And on Rashford, think that he has that WC in him. The one new signing didn't change anything.

Oh look, the Champions League is a deal breaker for someone! By the way, I don't think Havertz wants to leave Leverkusen because they didn't qualify for the Champions League. I think he wants to leave because he's outgrown them and he'll only improve if he leaves for a bigger club.

Never mind a striker, every player goes through a dip but am not sure how that excuses a player from doing the basics right. I agree that the service to Abraham was not great yesterday but whenever he did get the ball, he never looked in total control of it and when there was a chance that came his way, he ended up losing his footing or all unbalanced to get a shot away. Again, I agree that the whole team played crap yesterday but let's just focus on Abraham individually because using others to justify or back Abraham up is just a poor cover up excuse. And going back to the initial point I made, I wasn't talking specifically about yesterday's game but his overall performances, especially of late.

Feel like Mount's game has suffered from Lampard's constant tinkering of the midfield. We have seen that Mount can score goals, can provide assists at Vitesse and Derby - okay, different leagues and all that but still. Rather than let a player - a young player - have a fixed role or a fixed position to develop, Lampard has been asking Mount to do, A B C D etc. Lampard was talking about wanting fluidity in midfield the other day and based on his quotes, not sure if he has a clarity of what he wants his midfielders to do. Being versatile and flexible is one thing but it sounded almost as if Lampard wants them to do everything.

That sounds like a Spanish striker we once had.

Based on how we've been performing, I highly doubt we will beat Wolves. Our best chance is hoping City's ban doesn't get overturned, which is quite pathetic when this is what we have to rely on - another club getting banned from Europe. Was just thinking yesterday, ever since 2011/12, we have either fight for the title or fight/struggle to qualify for the Champions League or in one case, have a 'Mourinho Season'. It's pathetic.

If Man City's European ban gets overturned completely, then it's all over for the Champions League really.

16 goals on paper look a decent return but if you were to break that down, 7 of those goals came in 3 games earlier in the season - Sheffield United, Norwich and Wolves. Since then, he scored only 9 goals in 35 appearances and like it or not, that is not a great return, especially when he has been the no.1 striker for much of this season. If Abraham is putting good overall performances but not scoring, I think people have been more forgivable but he isn't. He isn't scoring and his overall performances have dipped and not it's just one game, it's been several games at the very least. Arguably the worst of the lot is he can't do even the basics right. For example, he struggles to control the ball properly when it comes to him and it always seems like the ball is just bouncing all over him. His timing is off, his technique is off, his precision is off. Everything about him is off at the moment and his body language is not even great either. Preaching patience with young players is understandable but they also gotta earn the patience, reward the patience or trust if you will. It can't be given just for the sake of it. Otherwise, we should be giving every young player opportunities just because they are young. Moreover, Abraham turns 23 in a couple of months - just 1 year younger than Werner by the way - and regardless of whether this is his first season with us, he's played football at a decent level for some time now (let's not forget that he had played in the Premier League with Swansea previously). So, I don't think it's unfair for people to expect a tad more consistency or better performances from Abraham.

Apart from the obvious ones who have become managers, no. But one would at least expect Lampard to know people within the football coaching network. Plus, he could always check with uncle Harry for names.

You all here want Barkley out but only a week ago that Lampard was praising him to the heavens... https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/lampard-first-class-barkley-dedicated-to-chelsea-cause/16mm4uppw1iaj13fn791r5d8g8

If the manager is crap at organizing a defence, then is it too much to ask him to get a coach who can do that? Grant, for example, had Steve Clarke to help with that. Scolari had his people too. Problem with Lampard and even the coaching staff right now is they are all still inexperienced at the highest level. So it can become a problem if they don't know how to fix an issue or have no experience to fall back on - which is somewhat ironic given Lampard played under some of the managers in history. Plenty, if not all our previous managers have an experienced backroom staff at the very least.
-
Just a reminder that we have conceded more goals than Arsenal. And we always laugh at Arsenal. Let that sink in.
-
Even if that wasn't, our attacking plan was nothing more than James putting crosses in, which is pathetic. Might as well have Sam Allardyce or Tony Pulis in charge if we're gonna do just that.
-
Was that even a proper chance? It's almost criminal that we are putting in crosses and expecting Pulisic, who is only 1.73m tall to be putting away headers.
-
If he plays that consistently, then we'll talk. Otherwise, playing it once means zilch because every player has their day with a spectacular goal or assist.
-
Said this several times before and I will say it again, the defensive problems will be Lampard's downfall as a manager - and at the club - if he doesn't get a grip with it FAST. That our defenders are bad, is obvious by now but our defensive issues have happened far too often this season to be just "it's because of the players". We obviously need a quality center back or two but that won't matter one bit if the defensive coaching continues to be non-existent. It will just paper over the "cracks" shown by the coaching staff.

Either we'll score 3 and win or Norwich will score 3 and win.

I just took them from Opta since someone mentioned key passes... 🤷♂️
-
Whatever potential Havertz has, I find it extremely bemusing that people are desperate for him when we should be spending money on fixing our defence first and foremost. Getting Havertz, Werner, Ziyech etc will mean fuck all if we continue to have clowns at the back!
-
But can Loftus-Cheek score this goal? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rmo4LoIWLEk Or this?
-
Hey, don't shoot the messenger. You mentioned creativity and key passes and I just shared the stats. P.S. Just because Mount hasn't played the kind of pass Loftus-Cheek did at Palace doesn't mean he won't do so in the future.
-
Havertz made 53 Key Passes in the Bundesliga this season, which is only 9 more than Mount.
