BlueLyon certainly said (or suggested) that in his previous post, saying he can see Cech step up when things get tough while Courtois goes with the flow of the team's performance. To say Courtois only plays well when the team does that is nonsensical. I get it if people feel more secured when Cech is playing because of his years of experience but on the other hand, think people have also seen what Courtois can do and has done for us to feel safe when he's in goal. You have kinda misunderstood the point about people being reactive. And Cech is only playing more regularly recently (albeit 2 matches) because of Courtois' thumb problem.

Have people been watching the wrong Lavezzi? If the current Lavezzi is still the Lavezzi of Napoli, then I would probably agree with that. But right now, he's not even playing well and has hardly set the world alight at PSG. An upgrade? Not a chance. If anything, they are all almost similar in their limitation and inconsistency.

Didn't know Lavezzi only cost £8 and not £8, 000, 000. He may be all that but his form and performances in the last couple of years have not convinced me that he'll be a good buy.

If we are gonna get a short term/stop gap signing, then get someone good or decent. But would Lavezzi improve us? Not in my books.

One could argue that if we have a more offensive RW right now, Ivanovic probably doesn't have venture forward much and thus we won't be caught out so easily down the right side. In the current system, Willian is important to the way we play yes but if we can get a different and better option, then we'll definitely tinker with things within the system and have one that will still make us function well as a team. Our setup now is not the be-all and end-all.

Still, no thanks. It smacks of nothing more than short term signing/stop gap measure. Lavezzi is erratic and has hardly been consistent. He's already 30 years old this year. If he's not playing at his best right now, he definitely won't be doing that in the next few years. It won't take long before people put him in the Schurrle/Willian/Salah bracket if he comes here. Besides, you talk about counter-attacks every time but we don't play that way in every game, do we? Would he really be useful when we face packed defences? I doubt it.

Fans tend to suffer from short term memory loss or they just have selective memory. De Gea was in goal when United lost 6-1 to City in 2011/12 season and not to mention, he conceded 4 at MK Dons! But those lots are predictably wanking over him right now. Is it just me or have people been reactive with their posts in the forum this past few days? You have some fellas going bonkers in the Bony thread because City signed him and now this. Seems like some have been brainwashed into thinking all Courtois is good at is handling crosses and nothing else. To say he doesn't step up when we needed him and just go with the flow of how the team is playing is ludicrous. Can easily pick out a few situations where he has saved us this season. 1. Denied Nugent in one-on-one against Leicester. Game was still 0-0 then and we weren't playing great. 2. Tipped Mirallas' (or was it Lukaku's?) effort against crossbar at Everton. Was 5-3 then (IIRC) and defensively, we were non-existent that day. 3. Prevented Campbell from scoring by closing down the space against Palace at 0-0. 4. Produced several saves to deny Van Persie and Di Maria at United at 1-0 and 0-0. 5. Helped to protect our lead at City by denying Aguero (before THAT fella scored) 6. Showed quick reflexes to block N'Zonzi's shot from going in at 1-0. You said if it wasn't for Cech against Newcastle, we would have conceded at least one goal. I could easily turn around now and say if it wasn't for Courtois against this team, that team, we would have dropped more points than we have this season.

Arsenal have a poor record when Mike Dean officiates their matches. Only around 5 wins in 20+ league matches. Not sure about the exact figures.

Have to say, the overreaction and overhype-ness to City getting Bony is hilarious. Sure, he is a good striker with an impressive goalscoring record but the way people have been talking about him is like City have signed Ronaldo or Messi. If we are going to let ourselves be affected psychologically by City signing a player and fall away for them to win the title because of that, then we don't deserve to become champions.

Like you said, "in the past". There's no point in locking them. People will still discuss about the player in other threads. So why not just let them discuss it in the threads here instead? Moreover, when they are on the move again, we have to open them for discussion. Saves time to just leave these threads open.

People really need to stop asking for threads to be locked when a player has joined another club.....
