Manchester City's plans for next season's Champions League campaign have received a huge boost after it was confirmed the club will only need to name five rather than eight home-grown players in their reduced 21-man squad. Pressure from the players' union FIFPro has forced UEFA to agree to water down its sanctions imposed against City and Paris St Germain for breaching financial fair play rules. UEFA had intended that both clubs would only be allowed to have 21 players with eight of those having come through the youth system in their home countries. UEFA's general secretary Gianni Infantino has now confirmed that instead the clubs will only have to name five home-grown players, a decision which could have a significant impact on City's transfer plans. Last season, City registered 23 players and used only 21 due to the eight home-grown players rule, so to have this reduced to five means the effect of the sanction on the club has been greatly diluted. Infantino, in Sao Paulo for the FIFA Congress, told Press Association Sport: "It came after a request from the players union FIFPro saying when you take these kind of sanctions and measures you cannot harm the players and the rights of a player who has a contract for the behaviour of the clubs. "So we looked at it and it was felt appropriate there for the number to be proportionally reduced as well." Manchester City and PSG were each fined £49million (60million euro) over three years, which could be reduced to a single year if financial targets are met in the following years. City said their summer transfer plans would be unaffected by a restriction limit of their transfer spending to a net £49million. The clubs also have to cap their Champions League squad wage bills at their 2013/4 levels for the next two seasons. The reduction in the home-grown players limit means City will be able to cope with the expected departure ofJoleon Lescott on a free transfer, with Micah Richards and James Milner also being linked with a move. Goalkeeper Joe Hart, midfielder Jack Rodwell, left-back Gael Clichy and defender Dedryck Boyata were also named as home-grown players in last season's Champions League squad.

Like Lukaku and such who don't want to fight for their place. I don't care if we sell Lukaku but get players like azpi.

Hehe true, this is just another hulk saga. He will not come here and just go to another team.
-
Because of marketing? Or because he would fit our system well? Cause if it's all about marketing then I see why Torres is still around....
-
I would have him sign a new contract and loan him to Atlético for at least 2 years. Maybe he can have a similar impact like courtois?
-
Guess guy is as good as done. Another failure in the millions of loans out there.

I agree, for me the bigger blame is on Mourinho for actually letting him go. He was going to let ba go but then stop it. So he has the final say despite what the player wants.
-
You know what's funny? That some Barcelona fans I speak to are desperate to see him go. While all the same while would love to have Ramires. Yet we would not mind seeing Ramires leave for someone more technical like in Fabregas style. I guess this shows something to me. The importance of squad balance. While Barcelona might have nothing but good passers, they don't have someone that does the dirty work, runs a lot and all that stuff. Likewise with us, we might have more brute force but have less technical players to help us control the game.
-
Nop because according to the guy above he thinks Mourinho buys no player but the director force all the players on him. Eto'o, Ozil, Essien, and all those was never bought by Mourinho.
-
Really? That's it I'm not continuing this discussion with you. Thanks for the time.
-
After I told you not to tell me that José type of player bullshit and you still give it.... I guess you don't read a word I said then. Especially when ozil is even worse then fabregas in lazy attitude and he was an important player for Mourinho.
-
Whats wrong with Cesc? And don't come with that bullshit of not a jose type of players, cause neither it was Ozil. Ozil is even more lazier than Fiberglass! The striker situation was all Mourinho and the club fault for being stupid in trying to chase Rooney. Wasted all that time to get Eto'o. Then Mourinho let Lukaku go on loan. Even though Lukaku ask to go on loan, Mourinho has the last say. Just like he did with Ba, in which he wanted to go to Arsenal and he stop it. Cole and Lamps have been presented with offers but they have refuse. I don't see nothing "weird" here....
-
What looks weird?

Just like there's no way to prove that Roman sets up all the tactic behind doors, and Mourinho is just a puppet? Seriously, this is just hogwash. If Mourinho felt like he was not being heard and being forced upon he would have left. He left before because of this, and he came back because the owner realize his mistakes and respect his opinion now.
-
How is that? You should read what Mourinho said regarding Matic when trying to buy him. I go by what we have. And what we have is that Mourinho didn't fancy much these players (DL,Mata)that was good and popular before he came back. This shows that the board has giving Mourinho idea a lot of thought and try to work with him.
-
Well they talk and decide what's the best target. It's no longer a force buy like Sheva.
-
You said it, 3rd choice. He was not value by Mourinho so makes sense to sell him. Sell them and buy players Mourinho value. Weather we can get his main target that's different. Like he might want koke, but the price is high and the player doesn't want to come.
-
We was doing good before those sells. The sell help us push us further into profit. But we was no way in risk of failing before.
-
Excuse me? Are Chelsea poor? No we sold them because they was not favorite of Mourinho. Is best to get money for someone you don't fancy.
