I suspect AVB wants to give him playing time regularly so he would get back his confidence and form, to milk out the last drops from him... because a confident and in form Lampard is indispensible. If it won't happen after some time, I believe his role will gradually diminish, but AVB obviously hasn't given up hope just yet.

Beating ManU is behind more factors than merely team selection... good mentality, preparation and tactics are more important. I remember the FA Cup final against them, and later Mourinho explained his tactics... basically his point was double-marking or boxing the dribbling player in our final 1/3 and stopping their counter-attacks with offside trap by playing a high line (if I remember correctly, or was it a deep line?) Having a deep-lying DMF will be essential defensively. It will also be important to frustrate them as much as possible by breaking up their play and being physical in man-to-man situations, taking yellow cards for the team when needed. Whatever people think, we have the personnel to match them... they play Anderson as a deep midfielder, that gap between their midfield and defence can be exploited, their usual 4-4-2 is not that strong defensively when facing a high-calibre team. Our central midfield and wing play will be essential, and our strikers must ensure they are ready to take their chances... the attacking line must rotate between positions to keep them confused, here Mata will come handy in his free role. It's doable, we just need discipline and the right approach.

And wages are another issue, would those 2. grade teams be willing to pay their wages? Probably not... maybe half or a quarter. Ferreira gets something similar like Kalou afaik, 50-60k/week. But you have to ask that question to the frontmen of QPR, WBA and Stoke why they didn't want them... they probably have their teams assembled already and didn't need them.

Maybe nobody wanted to loan them... who knows. Benayoun's stocks rised greatly during the pre-season so we had teams knocking on the door. On the other hand Kalou's value drops rapidly and Ferreira... he's a good backup player, but I often forget he's even in the team and he has no game time under him, other teams have nothing to scout so he too probably wasn't very needed by other teams.

Didn't see the 1st half, 2nd half was scrappy with laggy sopcast stream... but as much as I saw, it was okay, Sunderland let us play leaving lots of room. Against that kind of space we really should've scored more. And again awful defending in the 90th minute, I was hoping mostly for a clean sheet and a win and was afraid of an equalizer. Torres seemed incredibly lacklustre, his face was the same like in February... down and unconfident, as opposed to how he was against Stoke. I didn't also quite understand why AVB put Torres on to play with Malouda and Anelka flanking him (later I don't know who was on right, Meireles or Ramires).. and yet again he got no service, Malouda was very frustrating apart from that good volley hit. Of course Torres's "pass" to Ramires was awful at best too. I really want to see him play with Sturridge and Mata, today's game sunk him even lower I feel. All in all, 3 points grinded... am satisfied
