No. Modric is a pure midfielder, a deeper one may I add. Not same type of players, but both can give same qualities to this side offensively, Mata being more versatile as he can play anywhere. Even with Mata here, doesn't matter if he plays on the wing or as a trequartista, we still need wingers for the future. Mata gets injured or tired, Sturridge gets injured/starts sucking.. and then we're fucked. So we still need to get a winger or two afaic.

Maicon, Ramos or Alves There is really a shortage of world class wing backs/full backs, I think it might be the most unpopular position for children and hence it shows on higher level. You have to face quick and witty wingers and it can really fuck you up mentally, since it's one of the most important jobs on the field to contain the likes of Messi, Ronaldinho, Neymar, Ronaldo, Nani and they will almost always humiliate you and make you look like a fool. Defending against world class wingers is probably the hardest task in defense and proper full backs who don't get humiliated in attack AND defence are real gems... Even midfielders don't have to be as complete as them. They act like box-to-box midfielders throughout the game, only on the flanks and have greater responsibility in defence.

He is a wing-back, Ivanovic is a full-back when played at right... AVB likes wing-backs in his game plan. Cole was a great signing by us, he's one of the few who is good at both going forward and defending. Rarely do you see somebody who is the full package and at world class standard. If Bosingwa sorted his crossing out, I'd have nothing against him and he'd easily be considered a world class wing-back... that's the most irritating part of his game, he crosses often and everytime I can tell after it's leaving his boot if the cross is headed for shit.

Tbh it wasn't a complete youth team playing. Most of the game we played with 3 players who we can call young, 4 if you count McEachran for his 50 minutes and 5 if you count Sturridge, who is already a starter. Many were over 30 (Lampard, Terry, Ferreira, Malouda) and the rest were in between and just regular bench players and we ended playing with a fairly old squad. But Romeu was our best player alongside Luiz (24, not really young, but still) and Josh was also tidy next to Romeu. Those who played were solid but visibly inexperienced. And of course we were down to 10 men.

warnie, the thing is Kalou went missing most of the match against a Fulham B-side... everything about him was average and we have buried hope for him a long time ago to become a quality player, but with Torres you still feel he has the world class qualities in him somewhere. That's why AVB has dropped him even from the bench in important games, but not Torres.
