I don't consider Ramires to be backup to anyone. Mikel is Matic's backup, not Ramires. He plays in games and situations where the manager sees him as a better option to anyone really, not just Matic. He's a tactical weapon in my eyes.

Superb if true. In today's market you can't find much better rotational options, so it's best we keep hold of him until he still has his main strengths. And his different style of play from the rest of our midfielders gives us an extra tactical option, which is always good. Also he has goals and fight in him, for the life of me I cannot understand why some object to having such a useful squad player.

Hardly a point to make against Mourinho to be fair

He knew he was getting punished long before he opened his mouth. That rant wasn't improvised but thought out before the final whistle blew, you could see and hear it. So now that it is clear RLC will start, how do you think he will be fit into the team? I personally hope it will be in a 4-3-3 and NOT as the anchor man. Realistically the line-up could look like this when we have 5 certain outfield starters (Ivan, Fabregas, RLC, Costa, Azpi). Every other position is open. Yes he has been greatly embarrassed, but starting him could be a message to say that there are no hard feelings and to restore the trust between the manager and the player. I don't believe he will be chucked out without ever getting a chance again, he's far too good for that. For some reason I have a good feeling about this game, we can't keep on losing forever.

Reading all those quotes I feel that Mourinho was given a proper bollocking in the post-loss meeting. The club are publicly backing him and now he is promising to give RLC a more prominent role. Maybe Roman shook him up and now Jose is ready to shake up the team. Either way, those are encouraging signs.

Bummer we can't substitute him once in a while. By the way, here's an idea while we're at it. If it's height he's worried about, then why not drop Fabregas and put in RLC, who is even taller than Ivanovic. Then you have the same number of giants without Brana while also being able to field a proper defensive line and improved midfield. Problem solved, crisis averted.

Did he actually say it? Well, if there is a slight chance of this happening, then RLC will most likely replace Matic, not the one who needs to be replaced. We will keep on struggling and RLC will look bad in the pivot with Cesc. Maybe I am a bit too pessimistic, but this is what I can see happening.
