Diego Costa has been cited retrospectively by the FA, and could miss three games following his alleged "stamps" in Tuesday's win over Liverpool. In a move that stinks of hypocrisy and double standards, Costa, targeted throughout both legs by Liverpool's thug of a centre-back Martin Skrtel faces a three-game suspension, starting with Saturday's crunch game with Manchester City. Costa was adjudged to have "stamped" on both Emre Can and Skrtel in Tuesday's victory, though both incidents seemed to have little in them and were only blown out of all proportions by a Liverpool side so easily wound up despite their own endless provocations of the Chelsea striker. Nothing will be said, surely, about Skrtel and Lucas double-teaming Costa with two vicious elbows in last week's first leg, though: The fact Chelsea were denied TWO clear penalties, and that both Lucas and Jordan Henderson stayed on the pitch - despite the former accumulating FIVE fouls on the pitch, including this incident that should have led to a Blues spot-kick; whilst Henderson denied a promising Chelsea attack with this blatant handball which should have resulted in a second yellow. It seems the media's "campaign against Chelsea", as José Mourinho would put it - and has subsequently been fined for, whereas every other manager would barely get a slapped wrist - is in full flow. It doesn't bear thinking about how many times the Blues have been screwed over by incompetent officiating, and this is salt into the wound. There is an agenda, and when we lift the FA Premier League trophy in May it'll be all the more satisfying that despite their best attempts, we'll have won their trophy in spite of their campaign. The first "stamp" - how is this deliberate? He's turning to chase down a loose ball. Okay, he treads on him. Looks accidental to me. How are you supposed to accelerate from a standing position? I love Cesc but Tuesday only reaffirmed the gut feeling I've had since the start of the season - in some games you have to play particular players whose styles are more adjusted to the type of opponent you're facing. Against a big and powerful side you need runners in the team, especially one like City that likes to have the full-backs press high up to offer their genuine width. If we want to stifle City as an attacking threat the best thing we can do is play Ramires over Fabregas. If we're chasing the game, fine, bring him on for his set-piece delivery and his eye for the pass. But when you need to counteract the offensive runs of Zabaleta and Clichy, and someone who isn't going to leave David Silva alone for a second, you need someone with an unbelievable engine and a turn of pace. Sound like a particular number 7 of ours?
