There's quite an obvious reason why he'd want to go to America - the money's good. Not that he's not on good money with Chelsea, but look at Beckham's wages, for instance. This won't happen for four years or so, I imagine.

It's important we keep Cole - not only is he brilliant but because he's English. With the squad rulings coming in regarding a number of English players to be at the club it's important we get the right balance and Cole is a pivotal member of this team. If he is to leave we have to milk Real for every penny. £40 million minimum.

West Ham United owner David Sullivan has said Joe Cole has REJECTED the opportunity to re-join the Hammers. If he's rejected the opportunity to go to a club like West Ham, a team that holds such a big place in his heart, surely its an indication he wants to stay?

France certainly have the facilities to host such a tournament; with the Stade de France, the Stade Velodrome, the Stade Gerland, the Parc des Princes and the Félix Bollaert all 40,000+ seaters.

Gutted for him in the fact he'll miss the tournament, but glad that he won't be rushed back and potentially exacerbate the injury. Means we'll have a full-fit Essien back sooner rather than later.
