  1. Great point; it takes two to make a pass. I'm not taking anything away from Xavi but I think Lampard could do exactly the same role if he was in Barca's midfield with players like Messi and Pedro in the team.
  2. I think it was Ferreira but I only remember that day for the title
  3. Interesting idea. Maybe a thread for now in General Chat and we'll see how it develops?
  4. Granted but Lampard has popped up with more than a few assists! I'd be interested in seeing Xavi's passing and assists statistics, if anyone has them, just to compare with Frank.
  5. Give me Lampard's 20+ goals a season or Essien's drive over him anyway. I'm not denying Xavi is a good player - a very good player at that - I just don't see him as the brilliant engine others do. However my opinion probably isn't that vindicated because I can't stand Spanish football.
  6. I hope I'm not the only person who thinks Xavi is overrated. Good player, yes, but the only reason why his passes are so accurate is because he usually plays the ball sideways or two yards in front of him. Creative; yes, inventive; yes. Better than Lampard; no.
  7. To be fair Portsmouth played admirably and 1-0 was a fair reflection of the game.
  8. We'd all be screaming blue murder if this had happened to Lampard. And don't get me started on the media reaction if it had been Rooney
  9. You can set out about winning the Premier League, but you can't physically plan to win the Champions League. European Football is a lottery - you can get to the semi finals and get cheated out, for instance (I'm obviously not referring to Anfield 2005 or against Barcelona). It's pure pot luck. On the other hand you can prepare for a league season as you know how you can improve on the performance of the last season. The league is also a lot harder to win - you need more consistency and rather than being a 13-match competition of winner-takes-all it is a 38-game marathon where the best team always wins. That's why retaining the league should be our main priority as it is a greater achievement. I feel that you are not a 'proper' Champions League winner unless you have either won the title the previous season, or you have done the League and European double in the same season. I'm not trying to discredit the Champions League, because winning it is a huge achievement, but for me to be a true Champion of Europe you must also be the Champion of England.
  10. Boateng is a fucking cunt. I'm glad Cech saved his penalty and I hope it haunts him for the rest of his life.
  11. Cech was hilarious when he started singing Blue Flag
  12. Other candidates some people might want to mention : Deco vs Bolton (away, EPL) Terry vs United (home, EPL) Essien vs APOEL (home, UCL) Anelka vs Burnley (away, EPL) Malouda vs West Ham (home, EPL) Malouda (2nd) vs Portsmouth (away, EPL) Joey Cole vs United (away, EPL) Anelka (2nd) vs Wigan (home, EPL) Ashley Cole vs Wigan (home, EPL)

  14. We have a pretty sexy selection But I can think of plenty of others if we're struggling for numbers.
  15. He's certainly amongst the best in the world in his position. I think it's hard to call him the best midfielder because there are so many positions and therefore so many different attributes you can associate with a player being the best midfielder. Lampard is without doubt one of the best goalscoring midfielders, but it depends on which criteria you are looking for - for example the sheer destructive play of Toulalan in the CDM role, the creativeness of Xavi or the all-round play of Essien. Regardless of this all, however, Lampard's sheer quality and versatility make him amongst the top midfielders, period.
  16. We might have been the best team and deserved to win the title, but we won it by a single point. It is still an achievement to be proud of. Not only has Harry broken the Big Four monopoly but rebranded Spurs as an attractive attacking side with some world class players.
  17. Awesome work mate! How about making one with just the trophies on; Community Shield, EPL and FA Cup? Would look a bit special
  18. Abramovich-style ownership. We'll probably never know what his involvement was in the Mourinho sacking but the financial backing he has shown is incredible. He is a passionate Chelsea supporter and whilst he obviously wants a return for the money he has put into the team he seems just as concerned with how we play and what we win. A true owner who isn't just in it for the cash.
