  1. I think that's a little harsh as Begovic would start over every GK in the PL besides Cech, Courtois, Lloris and de Gea, but I see your point as he has ultimately been signed as a 2nd choice player.
  2. Considering that Sky et al are pummelling millions in TV money into each club this time next year, we really, really can afford to go and splash the cash a little.
  3. I'm not controversial, I just don't give a shit The reality is that this is a forum and a lot of people take it far too seriously at times. But what people need to realise is that the staff are entitled to share their opinions as well (I'm not insinuating that you're saying this, by the way, this is just a general comment aimed at nobody in particular), as, after all, this is a discussion board!
  4. For a man with half a hamstring he did a top job. He's still our main man. 20 goals again, please.
  5. Or Ivanovic. Actually we should just have sacrificed Ivanovic, Aztec-style.
  6. "Passed it", "liability", what the fuck am I reading?
  7. I like how you choose to ignore the fact that I put "given the circumstances". We had ten men, playing against the side that finished eighth in the PL last season, not against some shit bottom five club. If you're the type of person who'd rather risk going for it with nine men and getting caught out and losing, then that's fine with me,
  8. Besides the fact you called me Jason (he isn't this good-looking), I agree. Every season you have two or three of "those games" and we've gotten one of them out of the way today and somehow avoided defeat. In the long-term we could look back at this as being crucial.
  9. Yeah whoever was playing against Montero today would have had their backsides kicked, even Cafu
  10. People need to realise that Falcao is José's latest project and he is determined to make him into a top striker again. That will be to Remy's disadvantage. Just accept it now. He's third choice, again.
  11. Ramires would be a better option at RB on this evidence.
  12. It isn't "fine" under any condition, but given the circumstances, we should be happy with a point on the basis that a; we were very poor for long periods, and b; Swansea were excellent and obviously had a man advantage. We showed good resilience and that is a victory in itself considering the relative lack of fitness (both physical and mental) at this stage of the campaign.
  13. No I agree, more often than not he gets it spot on, I'm just saying that the decision to come out was correct, but mistimed, if he'd have stood his ground rather than racing out, he might have made the save anyway, but he'd certianly have given Gomis a decision to make, and Cahill might have been able to get back on the line to make a clearance. Alas, it's all hypothetical, sadly it is a mistake but he'll learn from it and I'll back him the next time he goes in for a one-on-one, which is a strength to his game as you rightfully assert.
  14. I'm one of Cech's biggest fans (well, was, he isn't Chels any more so I wish him a lifetime of pain and misery), but some of the fuck-ups he made were ten times worse than what Courtois did today. The only major brainfart moment Courtois has had for us was when he let Hernandez score for Hull in the 3-2 at the KC Stadium last spring. Cech made a lot of bad mistakes too, remember. Like when he let Sessegnon's shot squirm through him in the 2-2 with West Brom in 2013/14; the concession at his near post from Pastore in the same season vs PSG at the Parc des Princes; how he fumbled Maloney's shot in for Villa in that Boxing Day 4-4 back in 2007; you can even argue he made a major mistake in the 2012 UCL final by letting Muller score (everyone seems to forget how soft a goal that was, Cech totally misjudged the bounce, although admittedly it was at very close range).
  15. Those decisions will be easier to make with experience. I always forget he is so young and is, of course, going to make the odd error here or there. It's such a shame because he makes a wonder-save from Gomis' header in the lead-up to Ayew's goal but gets no luck, and then makes a poor decision which ultimately cost us a chance at getting the three points (although, weirdly, if it have stayed 11v11 I could have seen Swansea going for it, they were quite subdued after they equalised and I was amazed they didn't press their advantage to a greater extent).
  16. Not even close, but he has history with Swansea. Remember the LC semi final when he gifted them two goals?
  17. From my point of view as someone with a UEFA B goalkeeping diploma... it was a 'ridiculous decision'. He should have waited for just a split second and come out in the standard "ape position" for a one-on-one. Coming out the way he did made Gomis' job an awful lot easier for him. All he had to do was ensure he was first to the ball. Stand your ground for half a second, then come out in the one-on-one whilst the defender covers on the line. As a goalkeeper he has to either a; stop the shot or b; force the striker to hesitate to give the defenders time to get back. He did neither. I'm too tired to get into the technical whys and wherefores, but put it this way, I wouldn't coach anyone to do what he did. He botched the execution of whatever he was attempting to do, and that attempt was far too early. It was a poor decision. He should have stood his ground; the worst case scenario is it goes to 2-2 and we still have 11 on the pitch.
  18. You must be the most pessimistic person on earth. It's one game. Still 111 points available.
  19. On the evidence of pre-season, Courtois should have been our starting striker and Begovic couldn't catch a cold. The grim reality is Courtois absolutely fucked up (deciding to come out was a ridiculous decision, the worst case scenario was that he stays in his goal, stays big, they score, but we keep 11 on the pitch), and Begovic actually made one or two very good saves (the save from Montero was excellent, wonderful ability to be able to reach that high from a low set position in a one-on-one, and the save from Shelvey's mishit corner was an excellent one two. Handling was excellent, some commanding catches and punches. Impressed. New favourite Chelsea goalkeeper.
  20. Happy to take a draw given the circumstances. That was the sort of game we'd have lost under Ancelotti, Villas-Boas, di Matteo. Lots of things going against us, but overall I don't think anyone can begrudge Swansea a point and we didn't deserve anything from the game. Positives Willian - outstanding in attack. Visibly tired as the game progressed but looked by far the most potent of our midfielders.Costa - again, excellent. Very glad to see him come through the game despite injury concerns, and though he tired as well, he looked a threat. Begovic. Horrible circumstances for him to make his début in, did extremely well and made one or two excellent saves. I'm not at all concerned that Courtois is out for three games, tbh. The result. A draw isn't a nightmare. The last time we drew our first game of the season we won the Champions League. Swansea missed a brilliant chance to get all three points today. If they'd have shown more conviction they'd be going home with a win.Negatives Ivanovic and Fabregas - both utterly atrocious. Look well, well short of match fitness and almost everything they did was woeful. Hazard. Though he grew into the game in the last 10-15 minutes, he was otherwise anonymous. Disappointed with that. Willian - technically at fault for both goals.Willian played Gomis onside and was nowhere to be found on the first goal either, leaving Ivanovic to defend two with Matic having to be pulled over Our moaning at the end of the game. Fucking deal with it, lads. We got a point when we didn't deserve one. No point complaining about the Courtois decision - correct to award a red card and point to the spot. That was about the only decision the referee got right.Shit happens. We're going to have a slow start, I guarantee you that. We might only have 6 or 7 points after our first four matches. But we'll come good, just you watch. We're too good not to.
  21. Let's be honest, is he going to turn around and say "Actually Arsene's a bit of a nob"? It's the same when Joe Cole "joined the biggest club in the world". It's all bollocks to get the fans onside. Don't look too much into it. If anything, his body language in the CS made him appear to be thoroughly downbeat, if anything.
  22. Falcao to get his début goal today! Got a good feeling about him this season.
  23. You're suggesting any genuine Chelsea fan would call Cech a wanker? K den. He plays for Arsenal. What the fuck do you expect him to say in every interview? "I'm happy to be here I suppose, but when you think about it I much preferred being on Chelsea's bench". You don't have to like the fact he's gone to Arsenal, I don't, but he's come out of this a lot better than Lampard ever did with his backhanded way of joining City. Arsenal pay his wages, deal with it. If it upsets you so much, unfollow him on Twitter or whatever floats your boat.
