Obviously a very sad day for the club though his playing days were long before my time. Even so, everyone who knows their club history knows of Stan's importance to the team in the 1950s. I think I remember reading he was our only ever-present in the 54/55 season, a lot like Frank in 04/05. RIP.
The third kit isn't all that bad in fairness. The main thing is, except for the second goalkeeper kit (Cech is retaining his green shirt to be worn whenever we're playing against a side with white on their kit, for example Bolton), there are no fluorescent colours for once!
This transfer season though, we have a legitimate reason for not moving swiftly in the market - AVB obviously wanted to view the squad we have already. Still, the club should perhaps have moved faster to get him here in the first place.
Yes, it's a glorified loan deal - but one we'll make money out of either way. The way I see it, is that Oriol is Essien's short-term replacement, and potentially a long-term fixture for the squad. He will offer competition to Mikel and Ramires (though I much prefer Ramires in a B2B position), and that is only good for Chelsea Football Club.
Exactly, makes me piss. We're after so many CBs and Strikers, when we have four of the best CBs in the Prem (arguably all of them in the top 20 in Europe as well tbf) and two world class strikes, and three decent ones.
Agreed. However our own estimations of our chances will no doubt rise again, like they did when Villas-Boas first came in and tales of Falcao, Hulk, Modric and Pastore filled us with hope. One or two signings may also see the media reassess our chances.
I think you're all being very loyal to Andre, but Souness makes some very fair and valid points. No-one can say he will hit the ground running like Ancelotti or Mourinho.
At this moment in time, 3rd is an accurate prediction. City and United are far stronger than us presently in terms of squad depth, but thankfully our first XI remains the best in the league... when fully fit and firing.
So was Jan Sebek... there will never be another Cech; a man who risked his life for this club (quite literally) and has come back an even better goalkeeper. His loyalty and overall quality as a goalkeeper will never be replicated. There will be other greats in between the sticks but never another Cech, the same as never another Lampard or Osgood etc. Courtois has a big future ahead of him, I just hope he isn't another promising young goalkeeper we waste.
