That was the best team performance we've had under di Matteo. Everyone was absolutely outstanding, in fairness. Yes, it was "only" Wolves but we played a side full of youngsters and 'fringe players', with only a couple of regular starters. It was a great, comprehensive performance from our midfielders in particular, and the debutants were very impressive. Turnbull - 6 - he had little to do, but what he did do, he did well. One very good save, some very good punches under pressure and a competent showing. Azpi - 8 - very impressed. His defensive qualities were already well known to me, but I was surprised just how attacking he was. A superb debut. Terry - 7 - totally unflustered. Played as a makeshift midfielder at times, he was underemployed that much. Cahill - 7 - like Terry, criminally under-tested. He took his goal well and was a persistent attacking threat with his driving runs. Good interchangability with Azpi on the right, as well. Bertrand - 8 - again, impressive. A superb finish and he was such a persistent threat on the left. Employed as a winger, rather than a defender, but what little he had to do defensively, he did well. Mata - 9 - a near-faultless performance. A goal, two assists, and a miserly performance. Juan is back, ladies and gentleman. Romeu - 7 - on his 21st birthday, he put in a very mature performance. A brilliant penalty as well, and we saw just how disciplined he can be - there would have been a great temptation just to play in an attacking capacity, but he showed remarkable composure. Ramires - 7 - he was his usual self. I much prefer him in the middle of the pitch, where he is more efficient and effective. He harries the opposition into submission. He bossed the game alongside Romeu. Moses - 8 - brilliant again. Deserved his start and on this evidence, he should be retaining his place. Torres - 6 - quiet at times, an absolute livewire at others. He got one goal but should have had one or two more. Nevertheless, it was a marked improvement on the shocking 'effort' he put in to his previous showings. Better, but let's calm down a bit before we raise our hopes again. 4 goals in 9 is an improved ratio, at least. Piazon - 8 - he was great last night. Sometimes, as a debutant, you can shy away from the ball, or conversely try and do too much. Piazon got the balance spot on, with a very assured performance. He caused trouble throughout the game and his stock will have risen greatly. Marin impressed me when he came on, as well. Oscar was his usual brilliant self, same with Hazard. 6-0 flatters Wolves - it should have been 8+.

He was very composed in the midfield. Fair enough the opposition were shite, but he looked very comfortable. He is good on the ball and rarely panics. Very tenacious in the tackle as well. An encouraging performance.
-
Great performance by Kaka Piazon tonight!
-
Very impressed with him last night. He actually attacked far more frequently than I have seen him do for Marseilles. His style of defensive play will adhere him quickly as he is very tenacious and refuses to give up if he loses out on the first tackle. A very, very good debut.
-
He is a striker. He is there to score goals. He isn't even close to doing that based on his last three performances.

Unhappy about the source of our goals

Case study one - 38 passes, from right to left and left to right, trying to find the perfect through-ball. End result = goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnJy4qYFGmw Case study two - absolute wondergoal. End result = goal. Case study three - . End result = goal. A goal is a goal. -
I get into Forest games for free as a Trent student, might go and watch him soon!

He didn't have much of a pre-season (some will say the Olympics counts - but I don't recall him even playing?), so there is no mystery as to why he hasn't played yet. If he doesn't feature against Stoke, he will definitely play against Wolves next week.

The five players truly in contention are Zola, Osgood, Lampard, Terry and Drogba. This is because the largest demographic of fans are about my age, and their fondest memories will be the likes of 30.04.2005, 29.04.2006, 19.05.2012 etc., and of the great players of this generation. Osgood and Zola are the club's two immortal legends, so they naturally will make the top five. I fully expect Zola to top it, Lampard second, Osgood third. The likes of Dennis Wise, Chopper Harris, Kerry Dixon, Bobby Tambling and Roy Bentley will all deservedly make the top ten, but really it can only be one of those I initially listed when you consider the appearances they made, goals they scored and silverware they achieved. Then honourable mentions will go to players such as John Hollins, Petr Cech, Claude Makelele, Peter Bonetti, Carlo Cudicini, Jimmy Flloyd Hasselbaink, Eddie McCreadie, Jimmy Greaves and the like. My top 10 predictions: Gianfranco Zola Frank Lampard Peter Osgood John Terry Didier Drogba Ron Harris Roy Bentley Bobby Tambling Kerry Dixon Dennis Wise

^ totally agree with you Jay. We've come up with so many embarrassing excuses for his lameness and lethargy. Fact is; he's completely past it and Liverpool - though they spent the bulk of it on utter dirge - can still laugh at us for pulling off the biggest con in transfer window history. This makes the money we paid for Veron look a steal.
-
If Rooney had have scored that, the press would be collectively sucking his dick, just like they did when he scored the overhead that went in off his shin. Because it's a Chelsea player, its an obvious fluke.
-
I'm not denying that - but you surely cannot deny that Juventus bossed the game for long periods yesterday? They dictated the last ten minutes of the first half (we switched off as soon as the second goal went in, thinking the game was won - a disgusting act of blatant disrespect to a world-class team) and for a good twenty minutes towards the end of the second they were dominant and clearly in the ascendancy especially after the equaliser. I see your point but I think you are doing them a discredit - they were equally as good as us last night and well worthy of their point.
-
That's the point. He isn't performing. Mikel, Ramires, hell even Terry - they got far worse criticism last night for below-par performances. Torres didn't even bother. He just walked around and sulked, and every now and again got into a trot, only to lose the ball and sulk a little bit more. As far as I'm concerned, a player that puts in no effort doesn't warrant the support of the club's fans.
-
A good player nonetheless. If Sturridge is on his bike as well... Ba and Falcao in January and we'll win the league at a canter, should we be thereabouts come the time the transfer window opens.
-
The problem with Torres is that he is a spent force. A £50 million flop.
-
He actually annoys me from the fact he doesn't cut in and shoot! He must really mistrust his shooting ability because he very rarely goes for goal when cutting inside, á la Ronaldo. Yesterday we saw a different string to his bow in the way he played a deeper role and did very well to cover Ashley Cole by helping double-up on the wing-backs. I actually found Juve had more space down their right flank with Bertrand - a natural defender - on the pitch, rather than when Hazard was on that side. He continues to impress in subtle things even when he doesn't have a particularly obvious good game.
-
^ and if I was an Admin I'd ban your ass for stupid-ass statements like that! Oh wait...
-
RDM is the man to take us forward in the short-term, until Guardiola's inevitable arrival. Unfortunately, his persistence in playing Ramires on the wing and playing Fernan-doh is taking us backwards.
-
Shevchenko tried. Every game, and each goal was deserved. Torres deserves nothing but boos. The support for him from our fans is incredible, mind. I don't know what he's done to earn that level of support. Time for him to fuck off and for the club to spend big on Cavani or Falcao - or be a little more prudent and sign someone like Huntelaar or Llorente.
-
Are you shitting me? What game were you watching?!?
-
I disagree there. David Silva is an horrific finisher of the ball.
-
Don't know how anyone can say Juventus were 'shit'. They bossed the second half. A draw is a very, very fair result.
-
Totally agreed. Done with him. Time to go Fernando, shut the door on the way out.
-
I can forgive Mikel for that mistake, but I can't forgive Torres for that performance. Truly abysmal. I have officially given up on him now. I'm done with him; done with his sulking and his general I-don't-give-a-fuck attitude. Sturridge and Moses can offer twice as much as he can. He's useless and needs to warm the bench for a very, very long time and think about how he's continually let the club down.
