The attacking feat was an implausible aim with our depleted, aging and tired squad. At the moment we should comprise a plan B, but in the long term attacking is the only way forward. Look at Barcelona and Real Madrid, even Mourinho realised it. I think that was central to AVB's downfall, the inability to conceive a plan B. If we parked the bus to fourth place AVB would still be here today. I have no doubt in my mind he had a brilliant plan for next season, but we virtually threw it away in a brash move to gain some salvation. All I'm saying is that salvation was temporary, like I thought it would be. Perhaps that's what pisses me off the most about sacking AVB, even with all this shit nothing was ever going to get better so quickly. It defies logic to think otherwise. His attacking philosophy - or purported philosophy - did have its positives, that our defensive ones wouldn't. It aided in the acquisition of Mata, and was tantalising Hazard. I guess AVB couldn't go defensive, to extol a principle as fundamental an then treat it with contempt could of been equally fatal. Bottom line remains, this squad needs a major revamp - and we can play around with it all we want, it won't matter. The $ummer transfer window needs to be big for us.
