They're still good going forward but very suspect defensively, and have conceded in every game they have played so far this season. The ref helped them win that day, soft penalty and a soft red card - and we still could have gotten a point.

Yeah i agree, wasn't thinking when i said that a box to box midfielder with a great engine like Ramires would be great to play alongside Mikel, but his passing is just shocking and he will surely cost us goals. Only Meireles and Lampard available now to play alongside Mikel and Romeu. RDM just has to pick the right games to use them, Lampard can make all the runs he wants against bottom of the table teams.

There's no problem with a Lampard-Mikel midfield in games against the likes of Reading, but against better sides i don't think it works. I know it's very tempting to point out last season, but we were playing differently, we sat back and waited for teams to make mistakes, instead of looking to grab the initiative. Now we have the ball more, and when Lampard makes that run into the box and we lose the ball in that sequence it causes a lot of problems because Mikel is the only one back covering the defenders. I would really prefer if we play 2 outright defensive midfielders in big games.

I said during preseason - half the goals we concede start with some genius losing the ball when he really shouldn't be doing so, leaving players out of position and holes for the opposition to exploit. It happened frequently today, the most annoying one was when Ramires, instead of controlling a simple pass finds a way to fuck it up and then allowed Atleti to break in numbers Also i don't think Torres did much wrong today, he was up against 2 good defenders, while Mata and Hazard were kept out of the game by the brilliant Atletico midfield. If we had found a way to do that with Turan and Adrian, Falcao wouldn't have scored 3.

I like Lampard but he does go forward a lot and obviously doesn't have the stamina to get back when we lose the ball, which is a problem. Not saying Meireles is the solution, but we have to try different options in the double pivot.

The only criticism of him i have is that he shouldn't be playing the same team every game - everyone knows we will play the same back 5, Mikel + Lampard, then Ramires on the right - sometimes it's good to mix it up - which tbf he did against Newastle, more of that please.

You always make very harsh assessments imo. Just last saturday we hardly broke a sweat to see of a good Newcastle side, and today we got smashed, it happens. The main problem from this performance was how we were so vulnerable on the counter, but it can be fixed for sure with different combinations (players we already have!) in the double pivot - and also Ramires not playing, because no matter how much people like him he sure loves giving the ball away.

I agree about 2 strikers, and i really wanted us to sign someone else, but really if Sturridge can do well we should not have much to worry about. Last season, Anelka and Sturridge started a total of 3 games as main striker (very early on in the season), while Drogba and Torres played the rest. When Drogba was injured, Torres played. When Torres was suspended, Drogba played. When Drogba was at Acon, Torres played. And in midfield i think we have enough players: Mikel, Lampard, Meireles, Romeu, Ramires and Oscar can all play there.

IMO he was our best player in the 2nd half, but it was too late at that point. He worked hard, and i'm sure he won the ball back around 5 times, which is more than our Midfielders can say. Hope to see him starting regularly soon, he will only improve.
