So literally nothing has changed since last week’s Osimhen briefing. We’re still basically haggling and trying to find any way possible not to outright buy him it seems. This all has some other club swooping in out of nowhere and getting him after we fuck around for weeks.
-
This talk of potentially using Jackson in the LW. Are we going to sell one of Sterling or Mudryk to make room? When Palmer is back I just assume he’s got the RW locked down and then figured Nkunku for the LW. Because if we bring in an additional TWO strikers that means the Nkunku false 9 experiment becomes unneeded.
-
It just feels like we’re neglecting the now for the later. I’m fine with us buying up all these top talents but we also need to be buying more plug and play guys for right now. I don’t think this new ownership fully grasps the fact that going without UCL football for several consecutive seasons is very damaging. The mentality feels like “meh, we may be out of it for 3 years or so but when these kids come good we’ll be back for the long run.” And that’s very dangerous. Especially for a club like us with a comparatively tiny stadium. That UCL money and the sponsors that want to associate themselves with you are much more important to us than our rivals who get lots more cash through their gates.

Brief just went out. Yep, Omorodion is definitely on the way if City agree to sell Alvarez to Atleti. Orstein now also echoing Matt Law about Osimhen still being possible even if we sign Omorodion. How that’s going to work, idk. There’s talk of Nico Jackson being deployed as a LW? 🤷♂️🤦♂️
-
Makes no sense. Would suggest Guiu would have to go out on loan, I take it? Otherwise we go from having not enough strikers to too many. Why not just forget Omorodion, keep Guiu here with the first team to learn and get valuable minutes here and there, and get Osimhen as our main man…
-
Unless Alvarez has straight up told us that he isn’t interested in coming here and want to play in sunny, warm Spain it is criminal that we may very well buy Omorodion from Atleti whilst financing their move for the guy we should be after ourselves.
-
We’re totally going to buy Omorodion, ffs. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ As promising as Guiu has looked in preseason, why are we now going to bring in someone with the same profile? A young, raw, powerful #9 who is still a couple of years away from being the finished article. It’s just fucking baffling. And I think this is 100% the club who are obsessed with him rather than Maresca. They see him exactly as they do with the other wonderkids we’ve bought. A guy who will become a £100m player down the road. The problem is WE NEED A FINISHED ARTICLE STRIKER NOW, not 2-3 years from now.
-
That’s a lot of midfielders!
-
Even I won’t defend them if we spunk some ridiculous sum on this guy. Really don’t understand why we aren’t doing the blindingly obvious Lukaku + cash swap for Osimhen even if I might not be super high on him. It’s one of the biggest no brainer deals ever.
-
As anyone here knows, I wasn’t high on us signing Osimhen either. But….i certainly don’t want him going to fucking Arsenal. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Think he’ll score for fun in their setup.
-
Right. You offer those 3 in particular to literally ANY of the other Big 6 clubs and they’d have them without hesitation in a split second. Yes, including City & Arse. Likewise Gusto & Palmer. Most would gladly have Nico Jackson as a rotation option as well. I’ve said this before, but Clearlake thus far have done more good than bad easily. Koulibaly, Sterling, and perhaps soon we can definitively put Mudryk and Disasi down as flops. But the positive signings far outweigh those in my eyes. And we haven’t even seen close to the best of any of them. You go and ask Liverpool supporters how they’re liking their owners right now. Zero signings and none look close. At least our ownership is super ambitious about constructing a future top team. They definitely do some stupid things here and there but they’re trying to better the club.
-
They’ve made a lot of good signings, actually. This desire to paint what they’ve done as 100% terrible by so many Chelsea fans is ridiculous to me. They’ve made some idiotic moves and they’ve made some great ones. Just like every other big club.
-
Thought they were in PSR trouble? Wonder if a monster sale of Isak or Bruno G is on the way if they’re going for Guehi who Palace apparently want £60m for.
-
The negotiations (if they’re actually happening) are probably hugely complicated with us trying to get Napoli to pay a bit more for Lukaku and them wanting us to either buy Osimhen outright for larger than we’re offering or having a buy obligation rather than just an option. And then there’s Osimhen’s massive wages.

Spot on, @YorkshireBlue. Repeatedly saying “he was one of our best players” in a season in which we were dogshit for much of it isn’t some massive achievement. He thrived is a chaotic, system-less team. Again, he is a good player. He’ll run around nonstop, disrupt play, work his socks off, and chip in with a rare goal or assist. He is a pure “passion player.” Someone who, if you watched him playing for a lesser team, you’d say “yeah, he’s a solid midtable midfielder.”
-
If Gallagher had the exact same season he just had for West Ham or Everton or Bournemouth and we were linked with him for £50m or even £35m our entire fanbase would be in Chernobyl level meltdown. And if one of our rivals were doing the same we’d be laughing at them for buying him instead of a truly elite level midfielder.
-
Gallagher has never come close to Mount’s best levels and none of us were all that bothered when we sold Mase. I don’t know why there’s so much uproar about this saga.
-
These key injuries are why I’m more than slightly worried that we’ve still got another 3 preseason matches. Wish it were just 1 or 2 so the risk is minimized.
-
I mean, it’s just kind of obvious looking at the personnel we have playing in these games so far that there isn’t really a place for him. With Lavia back and looking great so far and KDH knowing Maresca’s system that’s 2 players right there that he didn’t have to compete with for a place last season. If Caicedo, Enzo, Lavia, and KDH are all fit PLUS the fact that we’ll be playing with an inverted fullback in midfield as well, I don’t see how he gets on the pitch. And then there’s Carney, too. And media reports about wanting to use Palmer more centrally. And Maresca himself last night saying that Nkunku can play “in the pocket.” Every possible position Conor can play in is well stocked currently.
-
If he goes to a big club like Atleti and is an important player for a CL and league challenging side he can lock down an England place. If he stays here and has a season off basically he’s probably never getting back into the England side.
-
If the manager came in and told me “mate, you’re a great player and I like you but you’re not in my plans and I’m going a different direction,” I would be really sad and disappointed but then I’d seek out the best destination for myself straight away. Instead, he may just run his contract down and waste an entire season likely not playing at all? In his prime years? I mean, yeah, from a financial POV it’s beneficial for him. But to waste an entire season being a bit part player who will probably only see action in the Conference League is silly. Especially if he wants to stay in the picture for the national team where his place is already tenuous.
-
Yeah, it definitely seems to me like Gallagher is going to reject everyhting and fuck us over here.
-
Why are the likes of Broja & Ugo even with the team in here in the US, much less getting valuable preseason minutes that others could use? We know both are off either for good or on loan. Anyways, I didn’t watch but it’s awesome to read that Maresca’s ideas are starting to take hold and the players are starting to understand what he wants. Also great to see Lavia and Nkunku not only got through another match unscathed but also looked sharp. Particularly delighted about Lavia who I’ve said before will be a huge player for us if he stays injury free. He’s got world class talent if he can be coached well. Unrelated to the actual game, I’m still disgusted by this new home kit 🤢🤢🤢 I had hoped that it would look better on the players in game than it did in photos like previous shirts of ours that I wasn’t high on did. But nope. Looks just as horrific.
-
Feel like we have to wait at least a good 10 matches before we can say with any sort of certainty whether or not Jorgensen is good enough. I’m skeptical but won’t completely write him off yet.
-
Of all the players we have or will bring in I’m most confident that KDH won’t need too long to settle in. True, he’s playing against much better players now than he was last season but he’ll also be playing with much better players which should hopefully let him show his levels sooner. The thing from watching footage of KDH you can immediately see he’s vastly superior to Conor at is both receiving and carry the ball between the lines. He’s super tidy and technical. Whereas Conor isn’t a quick thinking player on the ball. He isn’t the sort of guy with that silky technical ability and needs a couple of seconds on the ball and some space to operate effectively. If you press him touch tight you can get him to turn the ball over. If we still employed a Poch/Conte/Mourinho who prioritizes athleticism and work rate then Gallagher is your guy. There’s a reason why he is Simeone’s #1 priority target now. He’s tailor made for an aggressive, physical side. He is NOT suited to a team that wants to play Pep/Arteta football.
