As great as Ivanovic has been these first two matches, I think I'd personally go with Azpi and Luis as our fullbacks. Ivanovic struggles against wide players with pace. Azpi is the best 1 on 1 defender in the league so having him on Baines' side would make sense. He's also got the recovery speed that Iva just doesn't have.
-
At least he's not going to United.
-
If James has a year that the Madrid board feel isn't spectacular I wouldn't be surprised if they started sniffing around Hazard as their next obsession.
-
Giroud reportedly out for 3 months with a broken foot. Will surely force Wenger to finally buy a striker. Hopefully not a top class one but rather the usual Wenger cheap one.
-
This is why FFP is such a joke. It's fair for United to spend unlimited money because they've "earned" it but it's unfair for an owner who loves their club and wants to give his supporters a great product. Never mind the fact that they're more than £300m in debt, because they generate > £400m they can spend without penalty. Going to be even sweeter when ourselves, City, and Arsenal all scupper their attempt at buying the title.
-
And now they'll be going after a few more taking their spending in 2014 alone over £200m. They're LITERALLY buying the league back. If any other club did this there would be mass hysteria, uproar, and calls for huge bans. That's the thing that gets me angry. It's like they can play by different rules than everyone else.
-
Yeah, City didn't blow me away today in all honesty. Their forwards are extremely clinical, yes, but that game was decided more by Liverpool's defensive incompetence and total capitulation than it was City being far superior.
-
They're both gonna score against us this weekend, aren't they? Reckon both would celebrate like mad if they did too.
-
I'm gonna be doing a little prayer to the football gods throughout the season that United finish outside the top 4 again. RedCafe would be a smoldering crater for a month and the club will be in a world of shit. Just imagine how hilarious it would be to see them out of the CL for two straight seasons with the debt they have and the astronomical wages their players are on. It's funny, I saw a City supporter yesterday on twitter bring up a good point. He said that United are hundreds of millions in debt and can spend huge sums of money yet City have no debt at all and are being sanctioned. Yeah, United generate loads more but that's still kinda fucked up.
-
I hope to never see that in a competitive match again.I was thinking 4-3-3 with Ramires on the right of midfield behind Willian. The constant harassment of those two on Baines' side could be effective.
-
That's true. But just think about if they do have to pay those add-ons. That'll be only £5m less than we payed for Hazard, Cesc, and Matic COMBINED. Just mind boggling. That's 3 world class players we got for the price that they may pay for 1.
-
Remember how invisible and completely ineffective Baines was for England at the World Cup when he's pressed constantly and not allowed to get forward? Hopefully we don't set up for the counter and actually try to go out and dominate the ball. Keeping Baines pinned and having to defend is like cutting the head off of the snake for Everton.
-
Oh, that panic button is jammed down so hard it's probably stuck in its hole. But it's not like they're panic buying Fellaini again here.
-
If it's Vidal it'll go a long way.Their defense will likely still be a streaming pile of shit, but with Vidal & Herrera in midfield with the attacking players they have up top they may be able to do a Liverpool and just out score everyone. They'll concede 2-3 per game but score 4-5 themselves.
-
Unfortunately, they'll surely be buying at least one more midfielder. There is literally zero chance a manager of Van Gaal's quality continues with the likes of Cleverly and Fletcher in there.
-
I was one of them but never in my wildest imagination did I think he'd go for that INSANE amount. And it's apparently £64m PLUS £10-15m in add-ons. Madness.
-
Refs trying their hardest to give this game to United...
-
How the hell can any defender fall for what Valencia does? He only has one move and does it every single time. Totally against the run of play.
-
Shocking, aren't they?
-
Look at this United XI. Fuck me that's terrible! If they didn't spend £150m or more then they'd finish outside of the top 4 again. A club of that size starting with Cleverly & Fletcher as a midfield pairing and Young, Valencia, and some kid in defense. It's embarrassingly poor.
-
I'd certainly be worried about my place in the team if I were Mata. Can't see how you fit Rooney, RvP, Mata, and Di Maria all in the same XI without more than one of them playing out of position. If they play Mata out wide they not only stunt his effectiveness in attack but they also leave the right back completely exposed since Mata doesn't defend. This just smacks of a signing solely to appease their fans. Like Mata, Di Maria is just a huge, flashy name that'll excite the fans for a while but isn't at all the player they need. If they also go out and buy Vidal and Benatia then it's a different story. Then they very well may have the best squad in the league.
-
Can you imagine how fucked they'd be after spending all this cash if they miss out on the top 4 again?I'd be in tears laughing. I may even cheer for Arsenal and Liverpool to finish in the top 4 if it means United miss out.
-
Just think about this.... If United sign Di Maria they'll have spent £200m in the last TWO transfer windows. Fucking mad. And yet they still may have the likes of Jones, Smalling, and Evans regularly starting games for them in defense. £37m for Mata £28m for Fellaini £30m for Shaw £29m for Herrera £16m for Rojo £60m for Di Maria + a couple more likely If us or City did that every journalist/pundit/manager/whatever would be up in arms trying to get Fifa/UEFA to ban or sanction us.
-
RvP and Rooney aren't exactly bad players to be crossing it into and setting up, though. With the standard of defending at most of the PL clubs from wide areas I foresee Di Maria being extremely effective. Look at the joy that wide players like Hazard and Sterling get. Even a kid like Januzaj who isn't in Di Maria's league shreds the smaller teams up. Thing I'm curious about is where the hell Mata fits in as a regular starter.
-
And at least their cunty fans can no longer ramble on about the "United way."£37m on Mata, £30m on Shaw, £28m on Fellaini, and now £60m+ on Di Maria. Plus whomever else they bring in. Their wage bill has to be higher than City's now or at least will be by the time this window closes. RvP and Rooney are on north of £250k a week and Di Maria will be too. United spend astronomically and the media wank themselves and praise them. City and Chelsea buy the titles though.
