I'm one of the biggest Lukaku advocates here but to be honest, I wouldn't even be that devastated if he goes to United provided we get Belotti/Auba/Morata. Although I'm sure Lukaku would thrive here, maybe it would be a better outcome for us to bring in a more technically sound striker who can play a bit of football?
-
This is a great point. like, what have we been doing, fucking around with Everton with derisory £50m bids or something we knew they'd never accept? Or just thinking it was a foregone conclusion that he's desperate to return here? Incompetence either way.
-
Conte isn't going anywhere this summer. If we don't pick it up and sign some big players I think he'll go a year from now, though.
-
Hopefully Conte has already signed that new contract! And hopefully to save face we quickly announce our own new striker.
-
Holy shit! If Conte was as "desperate" for Lukaku as reports suggest, he's gonna be pissed! Belotti now, please!
-
Just yesterday we had that report saying that Conte wants Lukaku "at any cost, whatever it takes." Though I'm sure Mourinho would have him there, the timing of these new rumors is pretty suspect. Like maybe Raiola wants things to be resolved ASAP.
-
Or it's some Grade A trolling from José. He knows Lukaku ain't worth £100m so he leaks to the press that United really want him, it panics Chelsea into offering £100m first, and he laughs as he sees us spunk that ridiculous fee over. Seriously, though, I'm not worried one bit. If anything, if these reports are true it should kick our board into gear and force them to act. If they really want Lukaku they need to be swift. If not, start the process of getting Belotti or Auba.
-
I'm not worried for us either way. If he comes here, fine, if he goes elsewhere we know for sure we'll bring someone in. We have to. We're getting a top class striker from somewhere. Would be funny to see Martial and Rashford get Mourinho'd, though. How would they feel if United spent £200m on new, young strikers?
-
There's a reason Real Madrid spent a fortune on him, surely? Obviously hugely talented. Can't say I've watched him much but a bit of YouTube research I watched yesterday made him look absolutely top class. If there's any coach who can bring out the talent that's there it's Conte. He had Moses playing RWB at a great level for goodness sake. In a cut price deal he's worth a punt.

As long as we go all out and splurge on multiple forwards everyone will quickly forget about Diego and whatever low fee we get for him. Just sort it out quickly, ffs.
-
What's annoying is that we'd be weakening ourselves whilst strenthening two clubs at the same time. Atelti get a world class striker for way less than he's worth, United eventually get Griezmann, and we're arguably settling for a downgrade depending on who we sign as our new #9.
-
So you're not only telling me what I was thinking but also assuming that I'm "new" Chelsea. Okay mate. See ya later.
-
Firstly, that post was made in a lighthearted, non-serious manor. Secondly, you can fuck off with the tone of this reply.
-
I'll tell you what, it sure is just great watching all these clubs announcing signings! Meanwhile at Chelsea, we just see tweets wishing former players happy birthday day after day. I'm not triggered at all. Nope. Not one bit.
-
Conte may blow up the Bridge if that all happened!
-
With Rooney leaving United and even with them likely getting Morata, they'd still only have Morata, Martial, and Rasfrod who can play as a striker. One injury and they'd be in huge trouble since you know José doesn't trust kids. Surely they'll be bringing in 2 forwards. So let's say hypothetically they make a huge offer for Lukaku and he chooses to go there? He seems to be best mates with Pogba and is yet again on holiday with him in LA so I'm sure they speak about playing together all the time. We know from first hand experience that when José phones his transfer targets he can be extremely convincing and usually gets his players. What the hell would we even do in that scenario? Our #1 striker target who everyone assumes is a foregone conclusion to return.
-
We'll certainly need more than one forward this summer. Surely a coach as good as Conte sees and realizes that. We can't simply swap Deigo for Lukaku and think it's enough. It would be suicide. My guess is Lukaku + a hybrid forward who can play multiple attacking positions. If Morata wasn't off to United he'd be perfect. Maybe try to pip Juventus to Bernardeschi?
-
Hope so. Maybe we will indeed (eventually!) see multiple signings at once.
-
After everyone and their mother said Bakayoko was "done" and he still hasn't been announced I doubt this one is done either.
-
Admittedly, it is a bit concerning that we aren't even linked with a single attacking player other than Lukaku. Without Diego our attacking talent on hand looks pretty iffy compared to City, Arsenal (with Lacazette and Sanchez if he stays) and maybe even Liverpool due to Klopp's tactics. At the same time, you look at Spuds and they only really have one big source of goals and that didn't stop them from challenging. But when you look at City and they have Silva, Silva, KDB, Sané, Aguero, Jesus, Sterling, and may even bring in more attacking players and you compare it to us who have just Hazard (who may not be fit for a while) Willian who isn't prolific at all, Pedro who's solid but not great, and Batshuayi who may not even be a Conte player. Their attacking depth is a million miles from ours. Even if Lukaku comes in we'd still be a single injury away from disaster. I have to assume that the club are very quietly pursuing deals for attacking players. At least I hope they are.
-
Same reports ad nauseam. Getting annoying now. Honestly, I'm now convinced that Juve will just dig their heels in and keep him.
-
Never said anything about them being geniuses. What I'm worried about is that this takes so long that others can eventually get involved. Say Monaco put their foot down and decide they're sick of selling their whole team. That Mendy cannot go at any cost. Surely then City will be after Sandro. Also have to assume that since Mou doesn't like/trust Shaw at all that they'll eventually be after a LB. Like we did with Costa, Cesc, and Kante I wish the club would be killers in this saga and just get it done ASAP. Not dragging it out and getting burned in the end like we did with Stones and Koulibaly.
-
Bloody get him before one of the Manchester's or PSG plop the money on the table and he goes to one of them! I'm actually very surprised that Mourinho isn't after him. Hell, maybe he secretly is. Do they even have a decent LB? Mou would probably love nothing more than to "steal" our supposed #1 target while at the same time shitting on Luke Shaw once more.
-
As long as he doesn't watch a player running at him whilst backing off over and over again he should instantly be an upgrade on Cahill. Guess we have to wait and see.
