Sterling + Dembele or Sterling + Gnabry. Either combo would adequately replace Lukaku and make us a much more unpredictable, fluid, and technically gifted team.
-
Only way back here for Lukaku is if we have a catastrophic season that results in Tuchel getting sacked and some new manager fancies him next season. Otherwise we’ll probably just end up cutting our losses next summer and selling him back to Inter for cheap. Like €35m or something.
-
Let’s see what kind of shit Lukaku talks in his instagram or Twitter post about returning to Inter. 🤣
-
Hopefully with him gone we can start getting some in. This is getting unbearable.
-
If we’re intent in getting an actual striker I agree. If Jesus goes to Arse I think David would be the best option. He’s a million times the technical footballer that Lukaku is but still offers the power and speed.
-
Of all these options I think only Jonathan David interests me. Don’t rate Richarlison, Osimhen would cost an absurd amount and has only been at Napoli for a year, and Scamacca is a massive risk. I’m reading he’s been in loan like 5 times in just a few years? That’s not a positive sign. Johnathan David is a properly good footballer, can dribble past players, has good pace, and can also hold the ball well. Only 22 years old. We could do much worse than him.
-
He looks like a solid player and a much better footballer than Azpi. The price would be cheap and he’d be a pretty nice squad player but it would be strange to replace Azpi with someone who’s nearly as old. But I suppose it wouldn’t be easy to find a really top class young fullback who will agree to sit on the bench behind Reece.
-
With Lukaku certain to go, selling Broja as well would have me worried that we will indeed make a move for Richarlison. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 Because I don’t see any other forwards out there that we could target.
-
Our CB options are rapidly evaporating. It’s going to come to the point where we have to panic and sign someone bang average like Pau Torres for way too much money.
-
Yeah, unless Tuchel simply doesn’t see him becoming a top striker it makes absolutely no sense to sell one of our most promising youngsters. The only way the club should reluctantly sell him to West Ham is in a deal for Rice.
-
If Inter’s owner wants to be petty as fuck and exact revenge on us and Rom for him moving in the first place he can totally screw us over this summer. At any point he can pull the plug and then we’re stuck with a sulking, wantaway player. Or he could simply drag this out for weeks more and prevent us from doing other business.
-
Guess we know why we’ve done fuck all so far. Seems like everything is in flux behind the scenes and Matt Law mentions that Boehly himself is negotiating transfers. A guy who doesn’t know the ins and outs of European football. Hopefully he installs a top class DoF soon.

The Chelsea of a few years ago would’ve basically bullied Inter into accepting some sort of swap deal. These days we’re so desperate to to offload Lukaku that Inter are basically treating us like their little bitch. They’ve already humiliated us by getting £100m just a year ago for Rom and now again by getting him back for a fraction of that on loan. Now they essentially wag their finger at us and refuse to play ball on any players even though they really need to sell someone. Whatever, I just hope this anchor is taken off our backs within the next day or two. Before Inter play the ultimate troll card and back out of the deal. Then we’re REALLY fucked.
-
We’re already playing with a false 9 with Kai. Playing Sterling there makes no sense and he’d be mauled by packed defenses every week.
-
I just fear that if we spend too much on Sterling we won’t have anything left for another forward once we buy a couple of CB’s. That’s why getting Dembele would be so massive. Saves us a shed load of cash.
-
Now I’m seeing 50m or more for Sterling. Hmmm, not crazy about him for that price.
-
Just have to hope like hell that Rom kills it at Inter again so that either Inter themselves decide he’s worth buying back for a decent fee or it serves as an audition for some other club to take him. Someone like Atleti are always buying strikers so maybe they’ll be an option next summer. He’s tailor made for Simeone.
-
Nathan Aké isn’t good enough to play more than a few minutes for the club we’re trying to catch. Why should we be after him? He’s an okay player but nothing more these days.
-
I mean, even if he does we’d make tens of millions of £ in profit since he’d be coming here on a free. 😄
-
Sterling’s signature move is arriving at the far post over and over again and scoring easy tap-in’s. If we could get Dembele in who puts in fantastic crosses from either side I think Sterling would feast. Think about the delivery from wide areas by Chilly, Reece, and Dembele in to Sterling and Kai.
-
Yeah, Sterling for £35m is a fantastic deal. He’s nowhere near over the hill and still has plenty left in the tank despite it feeling as though he’s been around forever. Still dubious that Pep would agree to let him come to us, though.
-
He’s an awesome player but occupies the same sort of positions that Kova and Gallagher do. He’s got much more attacking nous than Kova but I’m not sure it makes a whole lot of sense to spend £60m on another box to box midfielder.
-
I think Skriniar is better than Bremer. More battle tested at a higher level as well. Bremer for me is a big risk coming from a small club.
-
Bremer to Inter is probably good for us if the reports of us being interested in one of their current CB’s is true, yes?

Preseason starting in just 2 weeks is exactly why many people are anxious. Especially after Tuchel’s words at the end of last season about the desperate need to rebuild quickly. If every club we compete with was also being super slow and patient like we are I wouldn’t be concerned. But we’re the only club in the top 4 that hasn’t done a single thing yet. Ownership change or not Boehly has been in and around the club for a while now. He’ll surely have had conversations with Tuchel for many weeks about what he wants to do in the market. This is going to be an insane season with the World Cup situation. It should be priority #1 to get your squad assembled and sharp from match day 1 in order to hit the ground running. Clearly that’s what City, Liverpool, and Spuds are thinking because they’ll all have made 3-4 signings each before we’ve made 1. Ideally you’d want the bulk of your business done in time to get those players as prepared as possible with a full preseason. Those clubs I mentioned will have that. If we don’t hurry things along we’ll be seeing Azpi, Sarr, RLC, Werner etc starting for the first few matches whilst new signings play catch up.
