Come on

The thing is, is Roman actually expecting manager's to get things right from the off? Jose came back won nothing and kept his job, i know it's easy to say it was Jose but also there was clear signs in that season we were heading on a good path and (in terms of progression) was probably our best for quite some time.
-
Tbhi can sympathize with him. He probably got fed bullshit by Wenger about how they were looking at breaking into the elite and his three full season's so far they haven't sniffed the title and got knocked out of the CL at the last 16 stage, once by Monaco and twice embarrassingly. He has basically been duped into wasting his prime years and for his actions of late im happy to give the benefit of the doubt was him lashing out in realization of that.

We did with Jose. If every club sticks to managers on the off chance they might be the new Fergie, football will turn into a mess pretty quickly. United finding a manager like him is the equivalent of winning the Euromillions. Three times this decade he's been sacked despite a major trophy win less than a year before, at what point is it accepted there may be a reason for that beyond " ruthless owners"? And on the flip side, if United sacked Moyes and LVG earlier they wouldn't be in such a mess. Im happy to give manager's all the time in the world to rectify so so results if there's evidence we are heading somewhere by doing so (like for example Poch's first season at Spurs, Klopp's first at Liverpool or even Jose's first season back here) but standing by a manager who's not only failing to get results but also showing no positive signs of light at the end of the tunnel just in the name of stability is about as far from stability as it's possible to get.

Managers don't do dynasty's anymore. I would love the job at Chelsea if i was a manager (factoring out the fact i support them). You have a good chance of winning trophies and if you do you are hailed as a genius, but if you fail spectacularly the narrative it's the players, board, evil director of football, global warming before your part in the downfall is even looked at.

Not quadruple, but double and that would certainly be enough for the likes of Eden, Tibo, Kante, Azpi and even Christensen to get a bit twitchy and demand close to/parity. I'd get it if we were signing Messi, giving Hazard a new deal or even signing Neymar but Sanchez is not the type of player to blow your wage structure sky high for, he's good but he ain't that good. It's not the money that's been the issue, it has who it's been spent on.

It was Mourinho that set the tactics which led to us being unable to create a serious goalscoring opportunity and it was him that chipped away at the players confidence and made the conditions at Cobham almost unworkable. When Mourinho got sacked it was all Pep this, Simeone that. In fact i remember someone suggested Conte (at the time) and got universally laughed at, it was only after the links became strong and serious research was done along with Juve fans joining up and raving about him most people came round to the idea.

£35m for a player who can be got for free in 6 months is madness, regardless of how good/needed he is and that's before we mention his apparent wage demands would blow our wage bill sky high (If Sanchez is coming in on 400k a week, all our top players will be demanding close to that in negotiations for new deals which would probably almost double our wage bill).

Well, City are bulking at the price as well.
-
He's exactly like Michy, rubbish footballer who scores some goals.
-
And to add, the decision (for Fulham) was made by Henry Norris, the same man who saved Arsenal from ceasing to exist shortly after.

Mourinho in that summer asked for Begovic, Falcao and Pedro and got them. Yes he didn't get Stones and Pogba but that isn't an excuse to be one point from relegation at Christmas. The transfer window can be used as an excuse for Conte to a point but the 15/16 disaster was all Mourinho's doing. If it was up to the average Chelsea fan Conte wouldn't have been appointed in the first place!!!!

Well what if we kept those managers on longer and done lasting damage long term? Like say United with Moyes and LVG, the obsession they have with doing things the "right way" with manager's has set them back years. Giving Scolari, AVB, Jose mark 2 (and you could even argue Carlo) more time would have potentially damaged us in a similar way. There's many ways Roman can improve on how he runs the club, but in my opinion the hire and fire policy he for the most part gets right, especially the fire bit.

The one thing Tuchel will have here is two excellent defenders in Azpi and Christensen (and Kante infront) that not even he could turn to error phrone messes. I don't actually want him, just putting that out there.
-
What i meant was numerous times we were 1 pass or 2 away from a promosing situation but everytime the wrong decision was made, even Hazard was acting like Willian tonight. City and Liverpool i'd grant you but Spurs? They have the exact same issue's we do.
-
We did, we just kept screwing up the final ball. Arsenal handed the whole tie to us tonight and we gave it back.
-
Ofcourse they need to defend aswell, but just being a great defender isn't enough on it's own just like being a great scorer isn't at the other end, and that's becoming a lot more prominent now. Take Zouma and Bailly for example, a partnership of those two looks nice and solid on paper and in many ways it would be but could you imagine them together against City or European's elite? every time he ball goes near them they would either concede a forced error or have no option but to boot it up field, either way the ball will be coming back at them fast. With the scouting teams at the club and the data they have access to it shouldn't be one or the other, we should be able to find defenders with a decent balance of both, which we have luckily got for the most part.

Most cases? Alongside the names you have mentioned (in the last decade and a bit) there's Carvalho, Paulo, Deco, David Luiz, Di Maria, Semedo, Tiago, Ronaldo, Moutinho, Alex Sandro, Diego Costa, Witsel, Matic. Even the likes of Anderson and Nani despite not living up to potential made some crucial trophy winning contributions at United.
-
De Gea is overrated with his feet and certainly not on Ederson's level. You can joke about Pep all you want, but the game is evolving and not just because of him. The days of keepers and defenders being able to get away with being shit footballers as long as they save shots/get their body in the way are long gone, just like at the other end being a pure fox in the box isn't cutting it anymore (hence Batshuayi looking lost despite a respectable goal record).
-
Probably from me the previous time. What i mean is that he has a skillset never seen before in a goalkeeper. He has the vision of a creative midfielder and that allows City to bypass pressing situations with ease, especially from goal kicks. Look at how City are penned in from Tottenham's shape, any other keeper and that's a hoof upfield but due to Ederson's passing they not only bypassed the press they had a dangerous attack on with Tottenham outnumbered. Up and coming keepers are now going to also be assessed by how good they are with their feet and that is largely down to keepers like Ederson. After seeing the benefits that it can bring, more and more managers will want keepers who can 'play a bit', just like Conte's three at the back caught on pretty quickly.

I said it also in the Sandro thread but i'm not quite sure why the Portuguese League has such a reputation, it arguably has the biggest success rate in terms of players moving to the "big" leagues (and that includes players going from one major league to another). The latest arrival from those shores is changing almost everyone's perception of goalkeeping. It only seems to be the economic situation in Portugal that holds back that league, imagine Portugal with our TV deals allowing Porto, Sporting and Benfica to keep all the top stars they have produced (before even factoring in players they could buy)? They former two especially would be serious candidates to win the CL every single season.
-
If thats true why do many top players (including Sandro himself) keep appearing from that league? Someone who is basically revolutionizing goalkeeping has just come from there ffs.
-
They have already spent the Coutinho money.

If this was our first choice Xl i genuinely believe we would be an upper bottom half team, at best. Pedro, Drinkwater and the back three are good, Cab is a mid table keeper, the rest are an eyesore.
