There definitely has been an improvement and was obvious in previous games but not lately. It's because they don't do this on instinct, hence the inconsistency. They have to be asked to make those runs but don't always see them. Hazard's off the ball movement this year has been 10 times better than previous years. Willian also makes great supporting runs so I don't think it's too bad of an issue, I just think they are all a little off form.

Yup, problem is we have some great technical players but to play in that manner you want everyone to possess at least decent enough technical ability to do the basics. Players like Ivan, Cole, Cahill, Ramires, Mikel, Lamps, always need a lot of time before they are able to make decisions. So even if Hazard and Willian play a quick 1-2 and Hazard passes it to Ramires the move breaks down. Like you said, doesn't happen with Madrid, or even teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, City etc. Even if man by man some of these teams may not be as good as ours but they field a squad of 11 where majority can play quick 1 touch passing and have a decent enough first touch. In that sense, our counter-attacking approach isn't that bad because we just don't have the squad to control possession and create chances by quick 1 touch passing. It'll take some time and some new players but we can get there. Matic is a good start. Luke Shaw would be a good addition also cause then we'd have two good full backs with the ball. Add one more midfielder and obviously a technical striker and we're good to go imo. And I know Giroud gets a lot of hate in the media but I think he'd be great for our attacking mids because he links up so well with the Arsenal attackers, his 1-2 are exceptional. Doesn't score a lot of goals, but neither do any of ours who he'd be replacing. Not sure Arsenal would get rid of him, but I wouldn't mind him as second choice here.
-
You're comparing him to Matic, not sure why. No one is saying he's better than Matic, not even close. People are just saying he was put on to do a job and he did what was asked of him so the intense criticism isn't really warranted after a decent enough performance. If it was really just about him then why not make these posts two days ago?
-
You've never heard "hating" used as a slang? Not sure why it's so hard to comprehend that your definition of hate isn't the same as mine in the context I've used it in. Hating is often used as slang when one overly criticizes someone for no apparent reason. I don't mean they despise him and wish bad things unto him. Simply that some Chelsea fans aren't Mikel fans.
-
There is nothing wrong with criticizing Mikel. Imo he is just a good squad player and no one is saying he is amazing. But to bring up the same shit whenever he plays, even after a good performance is a waste of time.
-
Well I didn't mean they hate him, but people def have got it in for him when this thread is more active than others who performed far worse. And people aren't just pointing out issues they have with him, if that was the case then it'd be fine, but they are actually criticizing his performance yesterday. And the criticism is pathetic too, like he passed back to Azpi who had to clear has been brought up 10 times, finding the most ridiculous of examples to criticize a decent enough performance. I don't think that is warranted at all. And of course, people can post their opinions, but in my opinion some are obviously hating.
-
Some obvious haters here. Maybe he passed back to Azpi so he had to clear. How many times did others pass back to Cech so he could launch it? Like him or not but he was a good sub and def helped control possession. Mou took off Schurrle for him so it should he clear that he just wanted to control some possession and get out with the draw. If you don't think we had more possession since his introduction then you clearly didn't watch the match and I don't need stats to prove that, just watch the last 25 mins. Not saying more possession means good possession but he was put on help keep possession and maintain the result and he did his job. Did he earn himself a start? No. But he doesn't deserve hate for yesterday's cameo.
-
Not sure what to expect with the new manager. Regardless, I don't see them doing anything that would trouble us. If we drop points it'll be due to wastefulness in front of goal, no other way. But I imagine we'd at least get 1 and grab 3 points.
-
haha may well have been 30% but your post confirmed 100% attainment
-
Disagree 200%, this thread was 80% about 110% effort and 10% about the bad performance and 10% about the decent result and the remaining 7% about people trolling.
-
That's because if someone shows even a slight bit of disappointment in our performance, they get 5 replies back telling em off. Some in here are clearly very insecure about our performance.
-
But can something be improved by 1001%? And, what if I give 100% effort but then give a tiny bit more effort, maybe the tiny bit won't make it 110% but I'm sure it would make it at least 105% effort. So I'm sorry you're wrong, 150% wrong.
-
Jose actually said in his interview that Torres and Schurrle were the best attackers but he had to take both off because Torres was exhausted and Schurrle had a yellow card.
-
We don't have to be entertaining and there is no problem in playing for a result in an away tie but why can't we do that by controlling possession even if it's not incisive. Why can't we do it where we at least look like we are a good team. We got a result today but it was get bodies back, win the ball and hoof the ball forward. You've got Torres, Hazard, Willian, Schurrle running more miles than they've made passes, that's pathetic.
-
Should have killed the game in the first 30 mins. I can understand playing on the counter to some extent but how can we be so technically inept that we can't even control possession and put them under pressure? I don't recall a moment we put them under pressure through controlled possession. I guess though that is expected to some extent when you play a pivot of Lampard and Ramires. Good result, bad performance.
-
Like the lineup, the pivot is very attacking but getting an away goal is vital, even 2-1 loss is a good result. That said, I hope Schurrle is on LW, whenever he starts with Hazard he ends up playing RW but he's useless there imo. Play him LW and Hazard RW with Willian in the middle.
-
Good question. I was going to say Matic but he wouldn't have traveled with the team. Maybe someone from the staff?
-
From what I've read, Benfica owns 50% of him and the other 50% by a 3rd party. But we have first refusal for Benfica's 50% at 7.5M, so basically 15M first refusal if he's every sold. He's hard working and technically very good but not sure about his physicality, if he can improve that he's definitely a good player, has very good vision, something we lack currently. Not a bad option in the future possibly. But what I don't understand is how we end up with a first refusal? What did we possibly give up to get that first refusal?

lol roy keane lashing out at carrick's interview haha

Really don’t understand why Moyes doesn’t make some changes. Why play so deep? Why try to build form the back when you are so deep and your midfielders and wingers aren’t willing to drop deep to build-up? Why play a 4-4-2 where the only CM who wants to hold is too slow and yet you still allow your fullbacks to bomb forward? They play way too wide as well, each teammate has at best a passing option 30 yards away, get tighter control possession at least, play small passes. That said, you gotta question the desire of the players too, it's not like it's just Moyes' fault.
