This is what Galliani said in January: He didn't want to accept less money to play elsewhere. You really think players are going to give up millions and their financial security? Ask Malouda. The problem is salary and nothing else. Madrid would save themselves money if they gave him away for FREE because they wouldn't have to pay the remainder of his contract. I guarantee you Chelsea would let Torres walk for free tomorrow if somebody was stupid enough to pay him 185k p/w for the next 3 years.

Perfect example was the embarrassing Club World Cup final wbecause we barely had anybody defending. Lampard playing like a striker, Mata and Hazard etc. It was a nightmare.

No, that isn't the problem. The problem is (and we have the same one with Malouda, Essien, Torres, Ferreria etc is) he earns a lot of money and nobody else will pay him what he earns now. Madrid would give him away for free if it meant getting him off the wage bill but nobody wants to pay 200k+ p/w etc for Kaka like nobody wants to pay 185k p/w for Torres. We couldn't even find somebody to pay Malouda's 80k for one year so how can Madrid find somebody to pay Kaka 200k+ for another 2 years or whatever? Chelsea would give away Essien, Malouda, Torres for FREE if they could find other clubs willing to pay their wages but nobody is stupid enough to pay finished players lots of money.

I'm not asking for Mata to be Desailly. But he rarely even attempts to show any effort defensively. He is the ultimate luxury player in that you just hope he does something going forward otherwise he is completely irreleveant to the game. I look at somebody like Oscar whowill contribute offenesively but will also contribute defensively, mark opponents and make himself involved. We need more players like that in the squad.

I know Mourinho's style well enough to know that he is the biggest self-publicist in sport. This had nothing to do with his team and all to do with the fact that he quite fancies the Utd job. I don't dislike Mourinho at all by the way.

If you want to get a reaction from your players then you tell them in the dressing room that they weren't good enough and need to improve. Telling the whole world that the better team lost, that Man Utd deserved to go through etc is just bizarre. I don't know about you guys but if I was a player I'd have been a bit pissed off with that. It just comes off as a desperate attempt at being nice to a club he is eager to manage. Poor form from Jose really.

If he hasn't signed an extension by now he never will. He is leaving at the end of the season, sooner people come to terms with that the easier it will be.

Of course. They lost the League title before the winter break which is embarrassing. If they go out tonight then this season will have been an utter failure for the most expensively assembled squad in history and the most well paid manager in the game.

We can't sell because nobody wants him that much (if at all) and we can't give him away either because nobody will pay him the remainder of his contract. The only chance of him 'leaving' is on a long-term loan while Chelsea pays the majority of his wages ala Shevchenko, Crespo etc or Chelsea will try to 'break' him like Malouda and let him rot in the reserves for the next few years trying to force him out. My guess is that he stays for the next three years because he won't be earning 185k per week ever again.

Too bad there's the Confederations Cup this summer. I really would have liked Oscar to work on his stength during the summer break. He's never going to be Essien but if he just works on his core strength for a few months it could add a lot to his game. His balance, acceleration and other things would get a boost. Oscar is faily quick but hasn't been able to show it (maybe because of too many games). I remember a run he made against Wigan on his debut that shocked me. He is quite quick once he gets going, hopefully we'll see more of that.

Agree with the view that Oscar should be given license to play inside andrealise his potential. I don't think Mata is suited to playing centrally and is much better floating inside from a wide position. Against Juventus at home and Shakthar at home, two very good sides, Oscar was comfortably our best player. I haven't seen Mata put in two great performances like that against teams on that level from a central position.
