  1. i`ll just add my bit and then i`d like to keep out of the subject. it`s a sad thing as he was a great inspiration to so many,he indeed inspired me to fight my own health problems when there has been times that i`ve wanted to just let go and slide away . he hasn`t been my sole inspiration but he most certainly has been one of them it`s sad that in these times when it seems like the media does not want anyone to have heroes anymore that he put himself in this position when he was a hero to so many but i am not gonna lay the boot into him now he`s down and am glad that atleast the most important race he won in his life nobody can take away from him the race he won to beat Cancer. just finishing 1 Tour de France after that was incredible enough. he may have won 7 whilst cheating,i don`t know maybe he would have won some of them anyway but even with help of some drugs they can take away his titles but he still completed what 9 Tour de France`s after beating cancer. he`s tarnished his reputation but still i think he deserves some respect for that. i`m not expecting anyone else to share my views nor am i trying to change anyones opinion but that is my own. anyway, i`m done. thanks for reading.
  2. was you told/asked beforehand? it`s that really that kinda made me think how mad that would be..i just had an image in my minds eye of him meeting the club, fans etc..for the first time and what would be going through his head if they just dropped it on him, like i imagine say Oscar`s face would drop the first time he`s offered jellied eels for example. anyway i guess it would be something Essien would be aware of if they do it in Africa too..
  3. i wonder if Marko Marin is related to Cheech Marin..
  4. Blue Lyon likes him too i believe ,just pointing out how unlucky he was losing so many semi-finals and finals. Ballack was quality no doubt.
  5. Sahin is a quality player. and what i`m about to say doesn`t alter that but has anyone else seen his interview today on SSN? is he really wearing eye liner? i know alot of coal miners used to look like they were wearing eye-liner but that was after years down the pit and he don`t look like he`s ever been a miner.
  6. @Ankit Magnificent Desolation:the latest of his books that he has written is a good book to check out. he did write one in the early 70`s but that may be hard to find he wasn't really a badboy as such,he has been outspoken but the majority of what he has said and done i think is understandable. he just has battled alcoholism and clinical depression for many years. . the whole reasons why Neil went first ahead of him is still an ongoing debate really. Buzz was at one point supposed to be the first man on the moon but i believe personally in the end they felt that Neil would be the better suited to handle the extra fame that came with being the first man on the moon. Buzz wanted to be the first more than Neil did and that i believe played a part. it was basically that Neil was seen as a safer option ,Neil Armstrong looked at it as a mission to complete,he wasn't that interested in being the first....and they`ve built up this rivalry in the media between Neil and Buzz when it wasn't really the case. Neil had nearly died a while before the mission when he had to parachute out of a prototype space vehicle that had turned faulty and he parachuted out of it before it crashed to the ground and blew up. i`ve seen footage of that crash,i`m not sure if it`s on youtube or not tho..anyway it was a narrow escape and the way he kept his cool during it all impressed the NASA big wigs so that may have been part of the reason. there are mixed reports on what the actual reason is for Neil being the first, some have said it was merely the fact that where Neil was positioned at his tasks inside the lunar module (the part of the spaceship that broke off and landed on the moon.) made it easier for him to leave the door first. at the time of the mission most experts predicted that they would never return and die on the moon or attempting to return. Buzz is the first person to hold a religious ceremony on the Moon.he is presbytarian btw incase you are curious. when they got back in the lunar module the switch that was needed to be pressed to boost them up off the surface and to reconnect with Micheal Collins had been broken off as Neil accidentally broke it with his backpack. thanks to Buzz both him and Neil was saved as he put his pen into the hole that was left and got what would basically be the ignition on a car to work again. although when they landed back on earth unsurprisingly they had alot of media attention and interviews to do around the world after a year or so Neil grew tired of it and became a semi-recluse. they had given out more autographs than it`s possible to estimate and Neil started refusing to do them. he never really wanted to become famous, just do what he was good at and what he enjoyed most, flying and exploring space. his hairdresser sold off his cut hair and that was something that didn`t help the situation. Buzz has been open with the media, sometimes too open. he once was set up by a conspiracy theorist he trapped him and tried to make him swear on the bible that the moon landing wasn't faked. Buzz beat him up for the insult. like he has often said..250,000 people worked for NASA at the time,if it was fake why hasn't one single person come out who worked for NASA. all the astronauts find it insulting to suggest that it was faked and have been hurt by it...if i had gone on what some believed was "a suicide mission" and some people who can't believe in anything good made up stuff about me not even doing the mission.i think i`d be annoyed too.
  7. i don`t know if they still do it nor 100% if it`s true, but i heard when Dean Saunders went off to play in Turkey when he arrived they cut the throat of a goat infront of him and smeared the blood on his him for luck. i really don`t want to diss anyone for their culture but even by my standards i find that a bit radio rental. hope Bison is prepared for that if he goes to them and they still do it/do it
  8. welcome aboard. :blue scalf: the mother of my son was Canadian. tho she`s from Duncan in Vancouver Island...the woman i should have married is also from Vancouver Island but she lives in Port Alberni. tho she`s still one of my best friends and we still see each other from time to time. i have some friends on the mainland too in Quebec. i root for all the Canadian teams although i`m not anti-usa atall, because hockey is such a big part of your countries life i like to see one of your teams win the stanley cup. failing that the Ducks or Kings because i spent a year or so living in Burbank ,California in a past life.
  9. ah cool..i keep on getting my colleges mixed up between Purdue and Baylor as who the boilermakers are.. i do have a lil chuckle over some of the names teams have in college football i must admit..Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Purdue Boilermakers does kinda sound funny to the juvenile side of my mind. ah Virgil " Gus " Grissom..one of the originals for NASA.. sad and horrific how he died along with Ed White and Roger Chaffe on Apollo 1. another decorated pilot in the air force too. i love the Movie The Right Stuff.
  10. not to be disrespectful to one of my all time heroes. but thought i`d share this quite funny story as it`s sort of Astronaut related.. as i said earlier on the thread,i wanted to be an astronaut when i was a kid. well for Christmas one year i had an astronaut suit and a helmet(no moon boots so had to wear Spiderman slippers with it or Monkey Boots,Cowboy boots,Adidas Kick etc..)..childs size naturally, although the helmet was still quite big on me,i could drink and feed myself with it. i loved it..used to go to the local shops for my comics and sweets in it..helmet and all. anyway. i wasn`t living with my parents but my dad used to come and visit me and my siblings.. my dad had come over to my nans and had been drinking so he decided he`d try on my space helmet and it got stuck on his head. after a while of being unable to get it off he had to go to A&E to have it removed. my nan was furious with him because they had to break the helmet to get it off but i got a new one a bit later..
  11. @ Seb can`t seem to quote your posts for some reason. anyway,i understand Lloris isn`t perfect but Peter Schmeichel had some issues with crosses atleast untill he was about 30,hence the knickname Dracula from non-Man U fans. as for that video..that`s funny,i thought someone had shit in his locker or something..haha. he`s gonna have plenty of those days at Tottenham if AVB starts his highline shit with them.
  12. i`ve been a huge admirer of Lloris too. i think he`s among the top 6 keepers in the world, although where on the list he would be other than somewhere in the top 6 is open to debate.
  13. i hope you are right and i`m wrong but it seems quite legit. can`t blame Lloris for wanting to leave if that`s the case as Seb said he has been carrying Lyon in recent years too much. the price they are saying is around £13m. it`s not in the "what the papers say" section of the tv reports like the Sturridge rubbish is.
  14. imo it`s all bollax..tho not so much the bid. but on MOTD they were talking about Sturridge on his way out..(hansen and lawrenson) ex Liverpool players perhaps stirring the pot. and on SSN`s this morning they are saying via some tabloids that Liverpool have bid £15 m for him and where i really it gets fishy, they have reported that Chelsea have set £25m as the price for him.i don`t believe that we would let out what a players price is. and certainly not to the media. i just can`t understand why anyone would think we don`t need him ourselves...we only have 2 CF`s ffs ,we need 1 more if anything not 1 less.
  15. unless we thinking about playing 3 at the back which there`s no indication that we are...no point signing him. Roman isn`t gonna sell any good or great players and at CB they all are one or the other.
  16. and Levy is according to SSN`s also Lyon have reported that they are working on a deal with them for Hugo Lloris. both quality players..
  17. Mata is clearly in need of a rest. but as for stats.avoiding going too much into the fact that the only stats that matter is winning games and trophies. he isn`t going to get as many assists when others are having their share. his stats were better last season because he was the only one who could create, hence why he was worked like a mule. it`s nothing to be concerned about..there will be times when it`s Mata who gets the headlines and the motm awards. he is in desperate need of a rest.
  18. didn`t Thiago Silva agree a contract extension at Milan a week before joining PSG..
  19. reminds me of that episode of Only Fools and Horses when Rodney is trying to write a script for a local drama group and Delboy tries to help him by turning it into a disaster movie called "there`s a rhino loose in London" starring charlton heston..
  20. this will probably be the first game ever that i want Chelsea to win but not totally thrash the opposition with TC in goal for them..3-0 would be nice but Athletico will possibly be taking the game alot more seriously than us.although that could be good for us as our players may be more relaxed about it and play like they do on the training field . i was out there for the `99 Super cup. we put out a pre-season friendly away to Hereford style team out and ended up beating Real Madrid 1-0 ,Gus scored if i recall correctly. pretty dour game tho and apart from Monaco being a beautiful place i don`t know why they hold the game over there,it`s a small ground about the size of Kenilworth Road (Luton Town`s ground) and is probably the most dangerous field to play on in western europe. hope there`s no bad injuries on both teams.
  21. "i never believed i`d ever play for a team like Chelsea" ~ Paulo Ferriera 2005. It`s something probably said by alot of players over the years at various clubs but perhaps in one of those rare moments where he talks to the media,he revealed more than just an off the cuff generic comment. he seems to be a family man maybe that has some to do with it too. London is a great place to live if you`ve got money. i don`t think his wages are keeping him here tho atall. if the club didn`t want him he would be gone by now as we wouldn`t have give him various contract extensions over the years. Roman don`t worry about getting money for when players leave. you could make quite a star studded team from the players we have let run out their contracts and walk away for free. even loaned them out so they can leave and play out the remainder of their CFC contract elsewhere and helped pay their wages.
  22. Legend is a commonly used word in England and does not always have the textbook meaning attached to it.and other words like Mad when people aren`t actually mentally ill, star when they aren`t one etc... drunkards for example are often heard saying these words. Legend could be used to describe Ferriera with fairness tho in the sense you are thinking of..when you consider all the medals he`s won. something like 6 League Titles,6 domestic cups. the European Cup twice and played in numerous international tournaments. it may be too strong a word for you but i can think of numerous people who have been called it with less to back it up. i`m not someone who would use those words myself tho to describe him just yet but maybe in the future when i look back at this legendary era of CFC and the players who were here throughout it.they will be known as Legends.
  23. am i the only one who actually doesn`t believe we will play this 4-2-3-1 formation as much as 4-3-3 ? and in the future possibly even something out of the box like a 3-2-3-1-1. it seems like a lot of people are stuck on us playing 4-2-3-1 then fret over how certain players will fit into it. when already this season we`ve played 4-3-3. i believe Josh will make it with us and will play in the same side as Oscar. our board have settled down and are making wise decisions lately. they won`t let Josh go they just want to make sure when they need to rely on him he won`t let us down. i see a big clear out of old and getting past it midfielders within the next 12 months. Yossi,Flo,Essien,Frank maybe go to wind down his career and boost his pension money in the states. Christine might fancy trying to get into US TV. if they`ll give Piers the Leech a job there`ll wet themselves over having someone with a personality like her and of course she`s so much better to look at than that sleazeball. well anyway that`s 4 i see leaving soon and Meireles could be added to them..there`ll be room for Josh. Roman got out his chequebook for us in style again this summer but i don`t think it`s been like in the past. it`s been well thought out to get in before FFP kicks in. there`s a masterplan they are carrying out all will become more clearer in the next 12 months don`t worry about Josh he`s still very much in our future plans of that i`m sure.
  24. Hulk is not coming and i`m glad. time to move onwards and upwards. better talent out there for cheaper. Porto took the piss just like Levy did last year, they can live with the consequences in the future like Levy and Tottenham are now.
