Mata Torres Sturridge - a dream team?
LDN Blue replied to termninja's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Torres is not a scapegoat. We've criticised Lampard, Malouda, Kalou, Anelka ect. Some people like to make Torres untouchable from this, because it a "midfield problem" and it's quite annoying. I, also, didn't want Anelka to spearhead the attack, I wanted him to play wide to that Danny can play upfront.. The position he's used to. -
Mata Torres Sturridge - a dream team?

Yes Torres has been better than most forwards for us lately. And you're right about the lack of service/quality midfield argument still being a valid one. But you're kind of overstating how good he's been in these games. Again, not hating here, wish him all the best blah blah. But even his own personal games goes from really positive to negative. His first touches are also heavy and his awareness is not as sharp as we're used to seeing. His goal scoring instincts aren't too sharp either, he's had good chances in the games he's played but has allowed himself to bullied by defenders. In his Liverpool days, he could easily out manoeuvre, and outpace such players but now he seems to allow himself to be taken out the game. I'm not writing him off by any means. But if he doesn't perform how he should, do have alternatives. Sturridge & Lukaku are both itching to play as a centre forward for this club and are both ready to step up. -
Anyone got a stream?

Mata Torres Sturridge - a dream team?

He wasn't and he has improved from last season. But we can only play with hope for so long till things have to change.. And now that we have more options, it's understandable why people's patience is wearing thin. -

Matter of opinion, I suppose. I see criticisms which are justified. No-one's giving up on Torres, they're saying other options must be considered. -

There's a difference between slating and criticizing. Everyone wants Torres to succeed and start scoring goals and everyone supports him too, but if he's not on form then alternatives have to be considered. -

People who are quoting Anelka's goal stats have severely missed the point here about us talking about his inclusion.. -

Yeah, I'll agree about the waiting part then. Like I said, I hope it does work, because it could be really good if it does. All 3 are still fairly young and if they do starting playing some really good football we could start becoming a real force again. But there is a key test of if. Who knows if we'll even see it though If you're right about Hulk then that fills me with a bit more optimism. But we'll just have to wait and see now. Definitely not labelling a "dream team" or anything like that, I'm calling it an "experiment" that could be a success. -
Will be surprised if Romeu starts, but I suppose this would be an ideal game for him to.

On the contrary. I think I'm being more realistic than others. The term "dream team" on here will be scrutinized left, right & centre if this trio does not work, I'm not one of those "I told you so" people either, which is why I'm trying to get people to see things a bit more realistically. Sturridge is a great player, but his attitude lets him down. Everyone can see he's bright and even intelligent, but he's quite arrogant and cocky too. He may adapt, and I'd happy to see him do so, but it's so risky having an out-of-form Torres spearhead our attack, when we've got Sturridge who's ready to step up and play there. I favour Mata - Sturridge - Anelka more than anything. -
Let's hope Arnesen won't come fishing in a year or so..

Not sure if you're joking or not, but I agree. Anelka is still a goal threat, a far better on than Torres at the moment. Plus, Sturridge & Anelka can easily switch positions because Anelka can adapt to playing out wide. Torres can not! -
Mata Torres Sturridge - a dream team?

It's not a dream team. Because Sturridge is not a winger. Yes we've all seen him in pre-season and for England u21's play in a role where he drifts wide, but this is not a strength of his. His game is too central for him to play on the wing and it's holding him back. It's something I noticed in the u21 Euro's, and even in pre-season. At Bolton he excelled because he was used as a striker with Elmander. But here, we play 4-3-3 which means he'll be a makeshift winger. It won't work, I can only hope AVB will give him license to get central and develop an understanding with Torres in this aspect. -
School. Too young to understand, truly, what was going on.
-
I fear of the hype people are building around Mata. Because we all know, if he has a bad game, the backlash will be very interesting.
-
Which we paid for with Torres + Miereles + Yossi. Good to see they didn't spend it wisely
-
I heard with add-ons it will come to £15million though.

Interesting words by AVB on this..

Yup Really unfair on him, but that's often the case with Chelsea players xD -

Basically, during 2006.. Many people found Frank Lampard to be fat. Especially England fans during the 06 WC. Thus leading to the chant "Who ate all the pies?" and "Fat Frank" ect. -
Treads a fine line between being hired for race or quality.

Good to hear him name Bertrand.
