Europa League Final 2013 - Benfica 1-2 Chelsea

Delighted. In my humble opinion, Benfica outplayed us. We were poor. Had a goal wrongly ruled offside, outplayed us for the majority of the game and generally kept the ball flowing and held onto the ball a lot better than we did. Nevertheless, this is what is so special about us as a club. Our backs may be against the wall but we still somehow manage to pull it out of the bag. 11 trophies in 10 years, the most successful team in England in the last 10 years - what a wonderful achievement. Torres delightfully surprised me with his excellent performance. I thought he was really good despite lack of service; he still chased a lot of lost causes and took his goal really well - credit to the lad. My man of the match. Ivanovic, my word, what a header. It was even better than Didier's last season (but obviously didn't mean as much as Didier's did) - the technique, elevation, the way he picked his spot even though there was hardly any pace on the ball was wonderful. Great finish Branislav. Bane was quite solid defensively as well bar that last minute gaff where he was spared his blushes by Cahill who I thought was poor throughout the whole game save his last ditch tackle in the last minute. We were so lopsided as a team today, had no basic structure in our general play at all - Hazard was a big loss today. However, we still got stuck in and won. This is a winning club - something the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool fans are jealous of. Spurs fans have no right to say we have no history when it is a fact that we've won more trophies than them: United 61 Liverpool 59 Arsenal 39 Chelsea 26 Spurs 24 Who's the small club now Tottenham? Wankers. Let's end the season on a high and beat Everton on Sunday. Champions of Europe, we know what we are. -

Team: Cech; Azpili, Ivan, Cahill, Cole; D Luiz, Lamps ©; Ram, Mata, Oscar; Torres. - subs: Turn, Fer, Ake, Mik, Mar, Benay, Moses. Guess we were forced into picking that team. A bit lopsided - Ramires is our most direct threat which is quite worrying. Glad to see Mikel and Moses on the bench though, gives us the option to switch it around. Come on Chelsea! -

Torres to score a hattrick. -
One of my favourite all time CFC performances include the Michael Ballack show against United when Lampard didn't play and Ballack seemly took over. What a great performance that was. EDIT: Found a video of the whole performance! JA!

Fantastic news.

Agreed. He would've been perfect for our pivot. Brilliant defensively, can drive the team forward from midfield and has excellent short passing game. Only thing he could work on really was his long range passing but his pros definitely outweigh his cons. Shame we didn't go for him, £15m is a steal.

If you switch to ChelseaTV he's in full training right now. Also another interesting note is that Luiz seems to be playing at CB in the training game that's going on now. Good news on both fronts IMO. -
Selling JT and not renewing Lampard's contract in one season is like selling your soul to me. Call me sentimental if you want but you just don't do that IMO.

Which team are Chelsea's biggest rivals in England
The Skipper replied to newman 8151's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Has to be that vile, disgusting, sub human Spurs team for me. Hate them to bits, their fans are so delusional and jealous of our recent success it's a joke. I exactly wouldn't call them rivals though, just club I hate the most. WE HATE TOTTENHAM. -
nono is just trying to be controversial/play devil's advocate for the sake of it. I'm not really fussed by his posts, they just give me a good laugh .
-
The best you think? Wow that's a big statement. Dante's been a revelation this season but I wouldn't call him the best in Europe.
-
No I make this assessment based on the skill sets of both players. Dante has every chance to start ahead of Luiz but I think Brazil's best CB partnership is Luiz - Silva simply because they compliment eachother better than lets say a Dante - Silva partnership. Of course that is only my opinion.
-
So wait, you want to marginalise the talents of our best player this season just so that you can see Fernando Torres up front in a 2 man strike partnership? I have no words for that to be honest... You're living in a dream world. If we sign Cavani, there's no chance Lukaku will come back here. He'll go back out on loan. I don't understand why you want to change the whole mechanic of a team just so that you can get the best out of Torres. He's finished, accept it.
-
Luiz - Silva compliment each other better IMO. I think Luiz will start.
-
Can't believe Gustavo's in there ahead of Ramires.
-
Yeah let's do that so we can get the best out of Torres' talent (lol) and marginalise the likes of Mata and Oscar.
-
£42.5m is a nice price as well compared to the £55m that was quoted before... This would be a major statement. Not getting my hopes up yet though, need more concrete information.

Courtois won't be better than Cech for a few years simply because he doesn't have the same experience Cech does. When Courtois does something out of this world e.g. Cech's performance against Bayern in the CL final then we can talk. I'm not saying Courtois doesn't have the potential to be better than Cech (because if he does become better than Cech he'll probably be the best GK in the world) but to disregard Cech's ability like that is very disrespectful.

Come off it. I'm from Holland and I can tell you Kuyt, who I love to bits due to his work ethic, was never really a first rate player, simply because he was misused by Liverpool because Fernando was there - a guy that used to score for fun at Feyenoord was pretty much shunned out wide. He only regularly played because the team needed balance - however, our best performances recently (e.g. WC 2010) he wasn't a starting player. Who at Chelsea has the international pedigree of Kuyt? Is that a serious question? Hahahaha! I'm not sure if you've heard of the likes of Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, John Terry, Frank Lampard, and not to mention even our own Fernando Torres! Liverpool didn't do well in the CL when Torres was there, the reason Torres left Liverpool was because he never won any trophies! You must be getting confused.
