Even if we did buy him for €70m in one payment (lol), all Chelsea have to do when they reflect it in their accounts is amortise it over the period of his contract, which would be €14m + wages if over 5 years, like you said. Same with Real or City. They could easily afford it if they really wanted to.

Thing is, no one here is saying that it is the primary factor. It's just a stat, that if constructed correctly, could help people see how effective a player is to his team. That's all.

I like this... Something like NBA's PER formula. Very interesting concept. If we could somehow divide the type of players (e.g. having a slightly different formula for defenders, midfielders and forwards) that could be interesting. Would be a very, very complex formula though.

I don't know, but the point is nor do you, so you can't really go around claiming that Rooney won't drop his wages and in fact is more likely to increase his wages when no one knows.

Cahill probably but I actually think JT is still the better defender, he just didn't have a good season. I think JT will be more than useful if he stays fit under JM.

He isn't. He just plays in a system that allows the whole team to defend well thus reducing the exposure their CBs have. That wasn't the case for us last season.

So it isn't that much of a travesty. They need to come back earlier because their competitive season starts earlier. They also have a German super cup game they need to prepare for.

Not necessarily. A talented youth player might leave because they aren't good enough yet to break through to the first team which may hinder their progress. They might still have aspirations to play for Chelsea in the future, and a buy back clause allows that.
