What foundation Pep laid? Bayern won CL just before his arrival and played final season before. He couldn't reach final in any of 3 seasons. So they won CL before and after him, not with him. Also they were struggling in CL years after his departure. He left in 2016, saying Flick won CL in 2020 because of him is ridiculous. Barca also won CL before Pep, ofc he did some nice moves by removing some players but having Messi, Xavi and Iniesta was major thing and foundation set before his arrival. Even 433 formation was in place. Doesn’t look like they will win CL or PL this season either. So 4 PL and zero CL in 7 seasons with City is hardly mind blowing especially considering they are always number one favorite. Both previous managers also won PL with way inferior squads. I've been always saying managers can do 3 things. Overachieve, underachieve and do expected. Pep never overachieve with his teams which is hardly possible because he always had top3 teams in Europe. But he did expected and failed more times than not especially in CL.
