  2. Chelsea and the deals that nearly happened https://thedailybriefing.io/i/137138217/Chelsea-and-the-deals-that-nearly-happened We know it was a very busy summer for Chelsea, with a number of young players coming in for the long-term project. We know it will take time for the club and for Mauricio Pochettino to build a squad and to have the results they want. On top of that, many players were offered to Chelsea this summer. It is absolutely normal for clubs to offer players to other clubs, or for this to be done via agents and intermediaries. Many deals were proposed to Chelsea in terms of ins and outs, for example - Marcelo Brozovic was one player offered to the Blues before he moved to Al Nassr. There were some conversations between Chelsea and Inter for Andre Onana, before he went to Manchester United, as he was one of the players discussed as part of a possible deal for Kalidou Koulibaly. In the end, Chelsea decided not to proceed, and both Brozovic and Koulibaly ended up making moves to Saudi Arabia. Marco Verratti was also a possibility for Chelsea - he was discussed with many clubs around Europe, but because of his salary and because PSG wanted really important money, something close to €45m, Chelsea decided to go for a different kind of midfielder, both in terms of skills and in terms of age - they preferred to go for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, while they also had Enzo Fernandez. We also know that Dusan Vlahovic was offered to Chelsea in the month of July and Chelsea said no, but then in August Chelsea decided to think again about that in a swap deal for Romelu Lukaku, but Chelsea decided against paying €40m plus Lukaku for Vlahovic. Mauricio Pochettino was also not entirely convinced about this deal, so not just the board but also the manager decided against this deal. Towards the end of the summer, AC Milan approached Chelsea over a potential loan deal with buy option for Armando Broja, but the decision from Chelsea was to keep the striker and to have him and Nicolas Jackson together in the squad in that position. We also know that Liverpool and Brighton wanted Levi Colwill. Liverpool were prepared to make an important proposal for Colwill in case they had a green light from Chelsea, but that was never a possibility because from day one of the transfer window Chelsea made it very clear that it was not possible to negotiate for the player, who was not for sale. And in the end he extended his contract at Stamford Bridge. Away from Chelsea, another deal that nearly happened this summer was Lucas Paqueta, who was targeted by Manchester City. Of course clubs are now waiting to see the end of the investigation story. Newcastle were also interested back in May, but then they never sent proposals as their focus was on Sandro Tonali. Manchester City always appreciated Paqueta but they invested money on Matheus Nunes, big money; so at the moment they’re not planning for that move in January.
  3. Chelsea https://thedailybriefing.io/i/137138156/Chelsea Chelsea had a busy summer and there were even more players they nearly signed! Chelsea remain on just six wins in all competitions in 2023 following yesterday’s 0-0 draw away to Bournemouth. Mauricio Pochettino: “The fans are disappointed because of the situation but I am not worried about that. I say that because we really know what we are doing — we deserved to win.” Pochettino on Moises Caicedo not featuring yesterday: “Caicedo arrived back with a knock in his knee. We need to assess him in the next few days but he wasn’t available for today, that’s why he not here.” Pochettino on other players not selected: “So, Cucurella was not available due to fever. He was ill. Noni Madueke came from the national team with a muscle problem.” Pochettino on Mykhaylo Mudryk: “He is improving. He still needs to learn, he needs time. Mudryk needs to understand the game better — and try to be more connected sometimes with the team. We need to give the time and tools for him to improve.”
  4. he is the best CB available already IMHO, despite his young age, and is right -footed he is likely going to be a world class star he gives me Tchou vibes I did also list some other right footed CB options as well, older and more experienced, but Silva is going to be special I reckon As I have extensively shown,, in great depth, there is thus myth that there are all these great experienced older (over 26) players out there for the taking who are actually available and good enough to drop big money on it is bullshit to be blunt one of the very few happens to be the exact same position as Silva (Skriniar) we could have had him on the cheap (and earlier we could have had him for around the same as we dumped on the likely permaonjured Fofana. who I said hell no to) and fucked it off my track record for players I say buy buy buy over the past few years is far more hits than misses, and many of them are big hits all of these were targets/major wants in most cases of mine before they blew up or when we could have swooped for them as a major buy (Skriniar is a perfect example of the latter) Jude Bellingham Victor Osimhen Jamal Musiala (was so unhappy when he left us) Rafael Leão Eduardo Camavinga Florian Wirtz (I was the first one here to mention him, over 3 years ago) Aurélien Tchouaméni Josko Gvardiol Nicolò Barella Bruno Guimarães Ronald Araújo Nuno Mendes Achraf Hakimi Theo Hernández Alessandro Bastoni Dominik Szoboszlai Sandro Tonali Moussa Diaby Milan Skriniar António Silva Lucas Paquetá Bremer Nico Schlotterbeck Federico Chiesa (from Fiorentina days) Jan Oblak (for ages)
  5. Chelsea Target Antonio Nusa Shines As Super Sub For Club Brugge In 6-Goal Thriller https://sportinglife.ng/Chelsea-target-nusa-shines-as-super-sub-for-club-brugge-in-6-goal-thriller/ Real Madrid and Chelsea target Antonio Nusa came off the bench to help Club Brugge win 4-2 against Charleroi in continuation of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. Nusa scored and also provided an assist against a resolute Charleroi with another sub, Ferran Jutgla, also getting a goal against the visitors. Eighteen-year-old winger Nusa, whose father is Nigerian, has now scored two goals and delivered two assists this season. Coach Ronny Deila praised his subs for saving the day for Club Brugge. “It was a tough day, but it was important to get the win,” admitted Deila. “We have a bench that can make the difference and today the substitutes did it. “I am very satisfied with that.” Club Brugge thus climbed to the top of the standings with 13 points from six matches.
  6. Chelsea leading the race to sign Gabriel Moscardo https://football-talk.co.uk/192270/Chelsea-leading-the-race-to-sign-gabriel-moscardo/ According to Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola, Chelsea are the only club that have made an approach to sign Corinthians wonderkid Gabriel Moscardo The London giants recently made a £21.5 million bid to sign the Brazilian teenager, but it was not sufficient to convince Corinthians. The Serie A outfit are looking for a higher fee for their prized asset, but there are currently no offers from other European clubs, as per Nicola. Barcelona have been linked with the youngster in recent weeks, but Nicola has clarified that is only speculation through the media. As a result, Chelsea are still leading the race to sign Moscardo, who is anticipated to leave Corinthians in January. He will turn 18 later this month. Moscardo made his first-team debut for Corinthians earlier this summer and he has already made a huge impression. The teenager is a defensive midfielder and he has caught the eye with his tackling, ball recoveries and ability to win ground and aerial duels. He also likes to dribble. Chelsea currently have several exciting young midfielders in the squad in Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, but they could be looking into the long-term with Moscardo. He is only 17 and has the potential to become an elite midfielder. The Blues could make a fresh approach for him ahead of the New Year, and we won’t be surprised if Corinthians are tempted to sell. With the huge talent already in the first-team squad, Chelsea are more likely to send Moscardo on loan for him to continue his development. Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in the wonderkid, but they are looking to sign him for their sister club Bahia. Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently don’t face any realistic competition for Moscardo, but they can’t take it for granted and must move quickly to seal a deal.
  7. When should Chelsea start to panic about Mauricio Pochettino? https://thetopflight.com/2023/09/17/Chelsea-poor-start-mauricio-pochettino/ by Evan Curnew 56 minutes ago When Chelsea won just two of five at the beginning of the 2022-2023 Premier League season, it was deemed a disaster, and just over a week later, Thomas Tuchel was sacked by Todd Boehly. This season, under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea have won just a single match in their first five fixtures, with the victory coming against Luton Town, who are favourites to finish 20th place. Despite looking like their draw against Liverpool in the opening match week could be something to build upon, the Blues have failed to show that things are going to be different this season. Todd Boehly led a massive overhaul of the squad this summer, but even after the window has closed, the squad, on paper, looks nowhere near a title challenger. In fairness to Pochettino, he’s had to deal with plenty of injuries to the squad. Captain Reece James is still struggling to stay healthy, and newcomer Christopher Nkunku is out long-term and has yet to make his Premier League debut. That’s not all, though; Carney Chukwuemeka, Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah all missed the club’s most recent fixture against Bournemouth with multiple of those players being out long-term. A healthy squad for Chelsea should be able to see an uptick in performance, but for now, how long will Chelsea allow for poor results to be okay? While fans have yet to turn against Mauricio Pochettino, they are frustrated with the start of the season, which has seen the club sink to 14th after matchday five. Boos could be heard from the away Chelsea fans during this visit to Bournemouth as the club failed to score in a nil-nil draw. Post-match, Mauricio Pochettino spoke about the supporter’s disappointment. It goes without saying that Pochettino should be given the chance to showcase what his side is capable of when healthy, but how long will that be? Chelsea needs to see results very soon, especially given they have no European football this season, and the focus is fully on the Premier League. The club’s next run of fixtures includes Aston Villa, Fulham and Burnley. In this instance, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa will be the favourites in that match, but the fixtures after that should be ones where there is no excuse for Chelsea not to win those games. It’s time for the club to have a “no excuses” attitude and get the fans in positive spirits again.
  8. Moises Caicedo hands Chelsea fresh injury blow https://football-talk.co.uk/192359/moises-caicedo-hands-Chelsea-fresh-injury-blow/ Chelsea have suffered a huge injury blow after manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed summer signing Moises Caicedo missed the Bournemouth clash due to a knock in his knee Caicedo was in action for Ecuador during their 2026 South American World Cup qualifiers. He featured in both games against Argentina and Uruguay. Ecuador lost 1-0 to the 2022 FIFA World Cup champions but picked up all three points following an impressive 2-1 win over Marcelo Bielsa’s side. The versatile midfielder lasted the entire duration of the qualifiers as he set sights on helping his country secure qualification for the next global showpiece. However, he appears to have picked up a knock while away with his country. Pochettino, speaking ahead of Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, confirmed that Caicedo has a knee injury. The midfielder will be accessed in the next few days to determine the severity of the issue. The Blues have been unlucky with injuries this season and the absence of the 21-year-old will see the squad stretched over the coming weeks. He joins fellow summer signing Romeo Lavia on the treatment table with the former Southampton midfielder set to return to full training after the October international break, having limped out of training last week. Disappointing start Caicedo would hope the latest injury he sustained while on international duty will not rule him out for several weeks after a slow start to his Chelsea career. The South American moved to Stamford Bridge for a British club record of £115m but he has failed to produce solid performances for the West Londoners. Last season, he was ever-present for Brighton as he helped Roberto De Zerbi’s side secure UEFA Europa League qualification by finishing 6th in the league table. Caicedo featured in 43 games and made two goal contributions for the Seagulls, recording impressive wins over Liverpool and Manchester United at Amex stadium.
