CIES Football Observatory: Paid transfers economic check-up: Courtois best recruitment http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/b5wp/2018/232/en/ The first CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post of the 2018/19 season assesses from an economic perspective paid transfers having taken place during last summer. It highlights that Thibaut Courtois went to Real Madrid for a much lower amount than the estimated fair price (-€23 M). Conversely, Chelsea FC paid over the odds to recruit his substitute: Kepa Arrizabalaga (+€45 M). The fair price corresponds to the average between the estimated cost for the most likely buyer before the transfer and the current transfer value. Both figures were calculated using the exclusive CIES Football Observatory algorithm. The correlation between fees estimated and reported for players transferred for money from big-5 league teams during last transfer window was 75%. Rodri Hernández, Bryan Cristante, Fabinho Tavares and Clément Lenglet are alongside Thibaut Courtois in the top five for the best operations from an engaging club perspective. For Rodri and Lenglet, the existence of a release clause helped recruiting teams to sign them at a favourable price. As for Kepa Arrizabalaga, the CIES Football Observatory analysis reveals that releasing teams negotiated very well the transfers of Riyad Mahrez, Thilo Kehrer, Yerry Mina and Alex Meret. I have some disagreements here Fabinho for the Scousers has been a bust so far, he may turn it around, but in no way is he a great buy at the price they paid. Ludicrous 'fair price' valuation on Kepa. ZERO chance he is only worth £32m, in a market where £90m was rebuffed by AM for Oblak, and Alisson goes for £67m. They rated the Scousers paying £67m for Alisson as a GREAT buy! They are all over the place. Also they UNDERRATED how much we got arsed on Courtois. £55m fair market value is far too low. Another GK who they ludicrously under-value (even worse that Kepa) is Alex Meret. They say fair market was £6.3m! LOLOL And that Napoli got shivved by paying £20m. He is only 21, already a superb GK, I think he might end up surplanting Donnarumma soon as the Italian national team keeper. Insane to say he is only worth 6.3m quid. Thilo Kehrer at only £15m is another joke. Same for Cancelo at £20m, Alvaro Odriozola at only £25m and Javier Pastore at only £6.5m. Pastore only just turned 29 (so 2,3 good years left) and is already tearing up Serie A for Roma. At least they rated fairly 3 of my favourite targets: Rodri (the next Busquets for sure), Bryan Cristante (super young Italian MF, who, if we get arsed on Kovacic, we seriously need to look at), and Clément Lenglet (another superb young CB, with insane distribution talent who we could have had for almost £20m LESS than we offered for Rugani.

Losing £40m plus on Courtois Being bent over by multiple Italian teams on multiple players 3 straight summer windows to point where window is nigh shut and we then do desperation buys. Drinkwater (perfect example of above) De Bruyne sale. I wont even mention Salah or Lukaku. Striker issues for 2 straight years: (Costa, Morata, Lukaku, Icardi fail when could have had him for £30 to £45m under market this July, Bats loan, etc). Turning down £65m for a 30yo Willian, not buying Malcom, who Barca then bought for only £37m.Or buying Bailey for roughly what we would have gotten for Willian. I could go on, and on, but numpty cunt quotient is more than filled on those alone.
-
Malcom was purchased by Barca for £37m, ZERO chance Suso is worth more. He is a good Pedro replacement as a squad player for depth, but no way is a force of nature on the right side which we need. Bailey IS. Bailey wants to come here. We need Bailey. If we want to talk about a swap plus cash for an AC Milan player, let's talk about Alessio Romagnoli or even Patrick Cutrone or new boy Mattia Caldara. Franck Kessie as well, especially if Kovacic is yanked back by Real (although there are many others I would rather have than Kessie, even if he is a better player than Bakayoko, which he is).

I want Ratcliffe as owner. This Tory threat to Roman is 100% real deal. If it goes wobbly, it could destroy us for years. I am deep into politics. Zero I say is a joke in regards to this.
-
Goodbye posts are not legally binding. Real is by far the biggest club in the world (fuck Barca and Manure). They can easily rape us over him. They raped us on Courtois. I do not trust at all that he is ours other than this year.

Upgrades only come if we sell the fucking deadwood, so sick of seeing the same shit names, its RUTHLESS time in my book
-
Agreed. We have a destroyer of a MF, and it is deep. NOW WE NEED TO MAKE KOVACIC PERM!!!! I will lose my mind if we lose him. Same for CHO!!! Both will be world class cornerstones for years to come.

To use a recent UJ phrase, we have suicidal tendencies in the boardroom and NOT the good type

My Blue Dream....business to get done this summer
Vesper replied to Vesper's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
Number one, this was done in February, when Conte still looked to probably be the manager and I was positing players for that 3 4 3 system. Of course there we some tweeks done as the actual window progressed, and players shit out (Musonda for one) BUT the only really over-the-top (Over-the-top in terms of zero chance we even make a bid and less than that that they would be sold: we DID make a bid on SMS (remember I said either or between him and Saul) things on there were Saúl Ñíguez (who I rate 2nd best pure CMF in world, behind Kroos) and Alaba (best fullback, period, regardless of LB or RB) I also said Alex Sandro was an option, and to sell Alonso (and Real Madrid really want him) so those were not out of the realm of possibility. Alex Sandro will not be put up by me anymore, as If we did buy him next summer, we only get a year and a half out of him until he hits 30, and fullbacks poof hard after they hit 30.The ONLY 2 LB's over 28 on planet atm who are still remotely world class are Marcelo and Jordi Alba. GK I was proven to be correct (other than a swap) as Courtois did leave and we DID try to buy Oblak, then went and got Kepa, who at the time, I thought had a 150m euro buyout clause (the spanish media misreported this and later in spring corrected it). Icardi we could have had for £98m from July 1 to July 15, 2018, as he had a 2 weeks window with that release clause. He or Martial remain my two top striker picks. CB, we ended up going for Rugani instead of Romagnoli, but they are close, either works for me. In terms of tweeks now, post window, I would go for Pavard as by far best realistic one left (although Rudiger neck ripper may have fucked us on him, grrrr), with Romagnoli 2nd. Koulibaly Is always going to be included (or WAS) in my list of CB's. Next summer's last time (and maybe not even then as Napoli will never sell him to us and he is getting too old to warrant 80m, 90m) that I will put him up. I probably will not, as if we did buy him,we only get 2 years out of him before he hits 30. RB I was spot on with Djibril Sidibé or Elseid Hysaj (would prefer Álvaro Odriozola, but Real Madrid is going to grab him) real DID grab Odriozola, and Hysaj DOES want to come here, if that cunt De Laurentiis doesn't block it. João Cancelo would have been perfect RB for Sarriball, but Juve grabbed him, and we long ago fucked up the truly best option (and 2nd best RB in world, after Kimmich) in Sergi Roberto. I stick with the same 3 for next summer targets in Sidibe and Hysaj amd a stab at Cancelo (pipe dream now). LB, IF we sell Alonso, I see only 4 adequate and realistic ones out there, (in order) Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Telles, José Gayà, and Alejandro Grimaldo. Manu Trigueros to replace Fabregas was hardly a pipe dream, we could have done that. Very similar players, and he is 4 and half years younger than Cesc. RW I stand by Chiesa 100%, but also move Baily up to first option there, as Chiesa actually is a right footer who now prefers LW,and Bailey is a left footer who prefers RW. Berardi has not progressed as much, but would be a bargain at this point, but I will not put him up anymore. I stand by, also, ever sale demand, except for Barkley (due to Sarri now manager) and also perhaps, Alonso (I still would sell him if he get HUGE offer from RM and buy Telles). I would of course now add Morata, unless he comes good. Updated Blue Dream Buy CB Pavard or Romagnoli (forget Koulibaly) CB IF we do not move Azpi to CB, then for the 2nd CB buy its down to the two giants, Jonathan Tah (22) and Nikola Milenkovic (20), both 1.95m or Rúben Dias, 21yo from Benfica Malang Sarr, 19yo from Nice Panagiotis Retsos 20yo from Bayer Leverkusen for me atm maybe toss in Manuel Akanji from Dortmund as another option, or Felix Uduokhai, 21yo from Wolfsburg or Emanuel Mammana of Zenit, 22yo Argentinian/Italian, or Duje Caleta-Car Olympique Marseille, a 21yo Croatian RB Elseid Hysaj or make a real stab at João Cancelo (super hard pull as Juve just signed him) Sidibe is a step down, but last really good option LB Alex Telles or Ryan Sessegnon (forget Alex Sandro) this is IF we sell Alonso to RM CMF buy Kovacic on perm basis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CMF Amadou Haidara (my first choice) or Nicolò Barella or Roberto Gagliardini or Manu Trigueros AMF (IF we do sell Barkley or RLC) Talisca or Kai Havertz RW Leon Bailey or Federico Bernardeschi, step down, Suso LW Chiesa (if Hazard goes) or Asensio (forced into Hazard deal perhaps) or even better from RM, (I am in minority on this one) Vinícius Júnior CF Icardi or Martial or even BATS!! (why we loaned him out is fucking driving me crazy crazy!) with only other realistic options (each is speculative) Ciro Immobile, who turns 30 in February 2020 (so long term contract issue), and if Lazio loses SMS next summer, zero chance they also let Ciro go in same window and even less than zero in january window Timo Werner (still not sure if he is the real deal, massively expensive gamble and if Werner shows huge this year, Bayern will grab him) Andrea Belotti (see Werner, and he had a shit year last year) Lautaro Martínez (Inter, and they JUST signed him, even less of chance than Immobile or Icardi IMHO) Patrick Cutrone (again, so not proven, massive gamble and will Milan even remotely want to sell?, no) and the newest addition Krzysztof Piatek, but again, not proven, regardless of massive start and Barca REALLY want him, I think we would have to guarantee him a starting position That's it. All others will not be sold to us unless we bid INSANE money (and probably not even then, especially if we again have no CL) or are 30yo or older (Lewa, Higs, Cavani, Suarez, etc). Sell Cahill Luiz Zouma Marcos Alonso (if right price and if we can get Alex Telles or Ryan Sessegnon in) Cesc Fàbregas Danny Drinkwater Victor Moses Davide Zappacosta Tiémoué Bakayoko Willian Álvaro Morata (unless he comes good) Tammy Abraham (if right price) Marco van Ginkel Lucas Piazon Baba Rahman (I would LOVE to give him a shot at LB in Sarriball though) I stand by all of this cheers -
Here is an interesting look at depth. I will put together the best teams with NO regular starters (so far) Chelsea GK Caballero CB AC CB Ampadu RB Zappacosta LB Emerson DMF Drinkwater CMF RLC CMF Fabregas (Barkley has started or I would put him in instead of Drinkwater and shift RLC to DMF) LW CHO RW Pedro (as Sarri seems to prefer Willian) CF Giroud Man City GK Claudio Bravo CB Nicolás Otamendi CB Eliaquim Mangala RB Danilo LB Oleksandr Zinchenko DMF NONE, they have no true back-up here, Fabian Delph would have to fill in CMF Phil Foden AMF Ilkay Gündogan (although he does start too, at times, so a true pick here would be Brahim Díaz) LW no true backup at LW, they seem to use Sterling there when Sane doesn't play, but in no way is Sterling a back up RW Bernardo Silva CF They have only 2 on the squad, but both are WC, and Pep will play them both at same time on occasion, I will put Aguero down as back-up to Jesus, but it could switch either way Liverpool GK Simon Mignolet CB Joel Matip CB Dejan Lovren RB Nathaniel Clyne LB Alberto Moreno DMF Fabinho CMF Jordan Henderson AMF Adam Lallana RW Xherdan Shaqiri LW none, RW massive bust Lazar Markovic was dumped a few days ago from 25 man squad, so they have no true backup here at all CF Daniel Sturridge Spurs GK Michel Vorm CB Juan Foyth CB Toby Alderweireld (they play a back 3 at times, and Alderweireld also starts at times in a 2 CB setup, but I place him here as a back-up) RB Serge Aurier LB Danny Rose DMF Victor Wanyama CMF Harry Winks AMF Moussa Sissoko RW Érik Lamela (or Lucas Moura, as they alternate starting) LW Georges-Kevin N'Koudou CF Fernando Llorente Man U GK Sergio Romero CB Phil Jones CB Marcos Rojo RB Diogo Dalot (I picked him over Darmian, as he is a better player, with huge upside, one of the few really young great players they have) LB Ashley Young DMF Marouane Fellaini CMF Scott McTominay AMF Andreas Pereira RW they have no true RWer on the entire roster, I will put Jesse Lingard here LW Anthony Martial CF Marcus Rashford really tough to call this one Liverpool is fucked in a tonne of positions (CB, LB, AMF, and LW) if starters go down Spuds are weak in many back-up positions too, other than CB (unless they are playing a back 3 and need to replace, and tbh, 3 good CBs is NOT enough for a 25 man roster), RB, LB, DMF and RW, They are FUCKED if Kane or Alli or Eriksen goes down City have by far the best pure talent amongst overall non starters, but they have some large holes holes, and are fucked if Fernandinho goes down .......they can still win, but will have to change style a bit I am sure, as they really have no DMF, unless Delph truly is the miracle sub (like how he played LB last year) and can fill in at DMF Manure have a tonne of bodies to cover and have true firepower in Martial, Lingard, and Rashford, their problem is that some of the starters are bläääää We have no superstars as backups (other than potentially AC and CHO, but thats future forward looking and not in the scope of this) BUT also have every position filled with a good player (in reality if we lost Kante or Jorginho either one would start at DMF ahead of Drinkwater)

No, Burnley has at least 7 or 8 players I would take over anyone on Cardiff. Cardiff is the worst team talent-wise I have seen in the EPL in years. Arsenal is/was playing extremely poorly and still beat them. We should thrash them every time. They are the only EPL team I would say this about.

Chelsea remain Leon Bailey's dream destination, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, it has been claimed. http://www.insidefutbol.com/2018/09/08/leon-bailey-continues-chelsea-preference-despite-psg-joining-race/389253/ Winger Bailey has excelled in the Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen and the BayArena outfit recently locked him down to a new contract after seeing off interest in him over the summer transfer window. Clubs are still eyeing Bailey, with PSG the latest side to be credited with holding an interest in signing the wide-man. But, according to German outlet Fussball Transfers, Bailey's dream move remains to Stamford Bridge to join Chelsea. Snip
