Good and solid performances indeed but never outstanding. His move to Chelsea came as a complete surprises as he never stood out in the Eredivisie, a low level league, and only enjoyed one good full season. Never considered an exceptional talent like Ajax rookie Bazoer currently either. Look at Bony. He killed the Eredivisie and he joined Swansea, now 2nd choice at City. Graziano Pellé, the late bloomer, is another played who dominated in his position, now a Southampton player. Suarez, probably the best Eredivisie player of the past 10 years, moved to Liverpool. Eriksen and Vertonghen (and now Alderweireld) at Spurs. They had to perform for years to earn those moves. Van Ginkel never stood a chance tbh. And his performances for Chelsea were okay. He wasn't particularly poor but he didn't contribute much either. I really don't get what those that rated him so highly saw. He would be smart to return to the Eredivisie for the sake of his career. They'll actually care about him there. A few good years there, a few call-ups for the Dutch NT and he could make a transfer abroad again. What's happening to him now is just sad.

His hype was based on nothing. Put in a few tackles against Asian pub teams. I'm still mystified by it.

It's a shame. We're talking about a group of players who aren't just rated by biased Chelsea fans this time, but players rated highly across Europe. Christensen, Loftus-Cheek, Solanke, that's the spine of a team. Musonda and Boga as potential difference makers. There's even a chance the likes of Baker, Colkett etc. could become squad player level or better. They can't all make it, that never happens, but you'd think three or four could. But don't blame the manager, blame the club. They knew who they appointed. Him not playing Musonda and him saying RLC would play to then not follow through was to expected (he's a demagogue). He already said Chelsea's not the environment for young players, alluding to those still raw in terms of development. The whole idea of producing the future stars of Chelsea at Cobham was either put on hold or scrapped all together. Same thing really.

It will be interesting to see what class of players Chelsea can attract, especially in the summer. I have to admit I'm worried.

Good for him. I am in awe of Alaba. He blows my mind. He's already had a top career but he's still so young. I don't think I've ever seen a player so comfortable in so many positions and areas of the pitch. A legend in the making for sure. That picture of Pardo is creepy btw.
