PFA Player of the Year 2015 & Performance of the Season?
DYC. replied to Mustafa's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
I pick Zola. -
Quite a turnaround, Muzchap. Have you been hacked?
-
He wouldn't have to be sold. Just replaced by a superior player. This small squad and reliance on the first XI annoys me. Even Real can't manage it with all the quality in their first XI. Willian does not do much for me. Offensively that is. The only difference between him and Oscar is his first touch hardly failing him. Oscar used to score and assist a bit, but that's gone. Willian does provide balance though, I think. The almighty balance.
-
I'd prefer a replacement for Willian. Selling Oscar for 40 mil would rival the Luiz deal.
-
Is work rate code for lack of quality?
-
6 point lead, game in hand. Balance.
-
Think about the balance, Sheva. The balance! Without balance, we are left with anarchy.
-
I still have a faint hope of some turnaround though. I'm not a fan of Azpi on the left. But at the same time, Mou seems so adamant on sticking with him there...
-
The most bizarre signing of the summer. He was at the top of the world before he joined Chelsea.
-
He would definitely add some much needed physicality in midfield. And I love how he was very comfortable applying pressure. Great age as well. I would be happy if he was signed in the summer.

Great effort by the boys in the second half. That was the best 45 min I've seen them play in I don't know how long. Fair enough, Southampton's energy level dropped after that first half but still. The ball was moved around quickly, they played with intensity, the players were moving. This resulted in space to operate in and all of sudden, the opposition defence was put to work. Chances were being created and the team looked like scoring. Unfortunately, the ball wouldn't go in. Fair play to Southampton for some solid defending and Forster for some fine goalkeeping. It was frustrating, but it happens. After all those poor matches (for me anyway) I've had to endure for so long now, I'll take that 2nd half performance and hope for more of that in the coming games. Play like that and winning the league should be no problem with this lead. My man Hazard really turned it up in the 2nd half. What a gem. Fabregas was still sloppy and too easily passed by, but he showed some positive stuff as well. Diego was good too. Schneiderlin was fantastic. For Mourinho's approach, he would make a fine signing. I find it hard to say how good he actually is, how he'd do at an elite club. But he would definitely make a great squad option. One thing's for sure, I'd much rather have Schneiderlin in the middle than Mikel or Ramires in the big games.

0 awareness of what is going on around him. I hope this is some strange effect of his poor form and needing time to adjust. Good awareness is a key attribute of any player at this level.
-
Cesc's troubles have been going on for a while now. I was not willing to jump on his case immediately when his form dropped, giving him the time to recover. But I can't ignore it anymore. He needs to step up his game.
-
That guy playing in the #4 shirt should be forced to identify himself. Including DNA testing. That's not Cesc.
-
Bright start but that first half was definitely for Southampton. 2nd half is going to be difficult. Their energy level should drop after 60 min though, with the way they've been pressing. Chelsea's movement is so negative. Everybody is coming short. No width, no runs behind the defence. Credit to Southampton though. Some fantastic pressing and transititions. When are we going to get a quality performance again?
-
A bit disappointed in the line-up. They better win.
-
Clean sheet record. Not that I'm sure that's a good enough reason to play him, but it would be nice.
-
City have choked big time this season. Fantastic stuff. Win tomorrow and the title belongs to West London.
-
I agree with the part of dealing with physicality. It's a real problem. The ball circulation is just far too slow. Most Chelsea midfielders are lightweights so if you're moving the ball around slowly, you give the opponent the opportunity to challenge you. And the lack of width is also a big problem. Have you noticed how this side rare switches play from one side to the other? I don't understand how stretching the opposition, attacking the flanks is pretty much never an option. I disagree with Hazard being poor though. His options were very limited and everytime he had the ball, he was surrounded by PSG players. Impossible for him to just run through them. And when there were chances to combine and exchange some quick interplay, he rarely got the ball back. I thought he did very well under the circumstances, winning space for his team on quite a lot. He never let his head down either, he kept trying. I find it very disappointing how the manager was not willing to take a defender off after the red card (after half-time). PSG were playing with Cavani up front and Matuidi close behind him. Matuidi off all people, the furthest thing of an attacker. And yet there were still 5, 6 players behind the ball in possession on Chelsea's side, heavily retreating when defending. I don't understand why Cahill or Ivanovic wasn't taken off for Remy, playng with three at the back. Matic right in front of the defence, with Fabregas and Ramires in midfield. Take off Oscar for Cuadrado. Cuadrado and Hazard out wide with Costa and Remy up top. 3 v 2 at the back, 3 v 3 in the middle, 4 v 4 up front. Keep the ball, hit them on the flanks and press them when you lose it. PSG would have no option but to sit deep and defend for the most part. They would never let Marquinhos and Maxwell face Hazard and Cuadrado on their own, forcing the PSG midfielders to move all over the place, which results into more space in the middle. PSG would hardly get a sniff at goal because of the huge amount of space they would have to cover with a man down.

Coutinho has always been a massive talent but matches would just pass him by for the most part. He lacked the ability to impact matches, but he's growing and his development is very exciting. It will be interesting to see if he can keep up the form he's shown in 2015. Hazard has definitely improved. Eden was a talented youngster when he first joined. Now he's a star. But the role of a manager is minimal when it comes to these kind of talents. For example, Guardiola gave Messi the perfect platform to showcase his talents but he didn't actually improve Messi. No manager can teach Messi to caress the ball the way he does, strike the ball the way he does or make those brilliant decisions on the ball. It's all about their own mentality and will to improve.

Cech Azpi Zouma Terry Luis Matic Fabregas Willian Cuadrado Remy Hazard I want to see Willian in a deeper role. A player with his lack of threat and adventure has no place in an advanced position. Let him use his pace and energy to mostly cover for the front three and Fabregas. Also helping out Luis whenever necessary. He should be able to keep the ball and drive forward, with the extra space and time a deeper role allows. Fabregas starting in centre midfield, with the license to move up when the any of the front three is in possession. Luis deserves to play. Tired of the lack of ability on the ball from any of the defenders and a right-footed player on the left. And I don't care how many goals Ivanovic scores from set-pieces, he's the least capable fullback at Chelsea on the ball. Neither does he possess any kind of great attacking nous. But somehow he's allowed the most offensive role. Personally I'm convinced Azpilicueta would do better in the same role. He won't score as much, but he'll provide a better overall contribution on his natural flank imo. Ivanovic has also lost a yard of pace and it's really hurting him. There's a serious lack of spark and imagination up front, something that has been the case for months now. I didn't see the point of his signing but Cuadrado was purchased for a lot of money, so use him. Give him the opportunity to show his quality, make mistakes and develop an understanding with his team mates. I say start him for at least 6 games in a row. It's not like his competition is doing a great job anyway. Costa is in poor form. Remy is a good striker. He has scored a good amount of goals in his limited time on the pitch. He should be fired up to prove himself, give him a shot. This is not happening but a boy is allowed to dream.
-
Well, that was a terrible season in Europe for Mr. Costa. 0 goals and hardly looked threatening. Some serious pressure on his shoulders in the 15/16 campaign.
-
The thing is, no one has been 'good enough'. Ranieri, Grant, Scolari, Ancelotti, AVB, RDM, Benitez. There is no manager that is visibly superior to Mou, looking at the results that is. So you can sack Mou, but it will be the same for any manager that takes over. Unless you get lucky and get someone who delivers instant and great succes. Look at Barca. After Pep, they went with Tito. Not good enough. Then Martino. Not good enough. Now Enrique. Not good enough.. no wait, there's been a revival so let's give him some more time. If he does not win the title or CL, he'll probably not be good enough either. Even though I'm not his biggest fan, it would probably be for the best to stick with Mou for the next 4-5 years. Unless there's some freakish decline of course, that goes without saying.
-
Don't be silly. The quadruple was never going to happen. I had a better chance ending up with Kelly Brook. Who is supposed to take over after sacking Mou btw?

I've chosen to ignore/avoid the reaction of the media and non-Chelsea fans. How bad is it? They must be loving this.
