  1. I don't think one team being dominant is the same as the same big clubs being in the Champions League every season. There will still be great matches and since the same number of teams would stay, I don't think you'd get the same matchups over and over. I haven't gotten tired of the Champions League and I never bother watching the smaller teams play, unless it's the last 15 minutes of an upset. Money will come with added interest, which is what I think this would provide. You get more tickets and more TV sets from big matchups. People will not tire of big matches. I do agree that it should be based on merit, but I would honestly watch more champions league games if more of the group stage matches weren't Grasshopper v. Basel.
  2. It's not just about money. It's great to see a small team beat a big team, but at the same time, those games are the ones that draw the smallest audience. People love to hear about Legia beating Real, but more people will actually watch Chelsea play Real.
  3. "Look at all those empty seats...let's expand some more." It feels so weird not having Chelsea in the Champions League draw. It's been a long time.
  4. Yep, I've never been to the Bridge, so I'm just a pathetic rentboy
  5. They need to pull him back to the bench. Not sure what people see in him.
  6. He's just signed a four year deal. He's staying put.
  7. I'm more worried about Carroll than Payet tbh. He loves playing against us.
  8. New season, new manager I'm not making any judgements about the lineup until we've had a few matches to see how everything is coming together.
  9. Ribery (literally) strikes again. What a cunt.
  10. This is great. Both teams are getting a chance to bottle it.
  11. What a free kick from him. Everything else from Liverpool has been dire.
  12. Last season he was good enough for some to call for him to start over Courtois. He had some poor performances at the end of the season, but at the beginning, he was very good and helped keep the horrible run of matches from being worse.
  13. Ozil, Mertesacker, Koscielny, and Giroud are all injured...already But I think this Arsenal XI is just as capable of beating Liverpool.
  14. With all of the football going on, I didn't feel like there was much of an off season...until this morning. Nothing beats the Premier League.
  15. From a purely footballing perspective, this transfer is crazy. I doubt that one player can make enough difference to justify that price. However, it's not only about what's on the pitch. Pogba was Juventus's marquee player. He brought interest from people who wouldn't otherwise care about Italian football. He'll be one of the marquee players in Manchester, getting back some of the interest that was lost when Ferguson retired. Football isn't just about whats on the pitch anymore. He brings the flash, the highlights, the celebrity and the youth that few can. Kante may be a better fit for us, and I'm glad for that, because I'm firmly a chelsea supporter, but Pogba has the ability to bring interest that very few other players can.
  16. I think most would prefer that, but at least there's a silver lining in the fact that the club made a profit on him (but really, what's 5m in today's market)
  17. The number didn't just change on the website. There's actual shirts on display in the store
  18. The official Adidas store in Paris was selling Dybala #10 Juventus shirts. Seems like a good indication Pogba is leaving.
  19. I love the matches with Arsenal and Tottenham. I make fun of them, but in all honesty, there's only a couple of players on each team that I don't like. The only club I really hate is Liverpool. I can't stand the supporters, most of the players, usually their manager, and I can't stand the media wankfest that happens every time the club is mentioned. A lot of my disdain for teams comes from specific players, so I may not like a club now, but once the player moves on, I'm ok with them.
  20. I just don't get the love for Martinez. He managed a team that was promoted from League One, escaped relegation a few seasons with Wigan and did nothing with Everton.
  21. Not only are these shirts ugly, they're shit as well.
  22. Like they edged toward Stones last summer?
  23. The United States isn't a warzone. The players are perfectly safe doing whatever they want.
